Oh... well in my defence a lot of people are making a bigger deal out of it than what it really is so I have gotten rather irritated by it
now don't get me wrong its by no means a good thing but its just not this "end of USA" that some seem to think

Also Princess Luna is not amused :3

I love the this is so great and we need this part. Then of course we have the fact that many of the people that pushed this on us are now exempt from the bill. Always have to have the jab and religion and imply that it must be racist. Never heard that one before...

What would have been much better is to let each state decide how it's going to do health care. But back to the original topic how long will this last? It just depends on who blinks first. We'll know we have a compromise when both sides are upset.

In the US they are brought up to fend for themselves. Free medical care is not free, someone pays for it & they have to work harder so that you don't have to.

The UK has gone down the road of looking after people, so we've now got families where three generations haven't ever worked.

The best system is somewhere between the two.

As far as the shutdown, whatever happens now will be bad.

I haven't noticed anything different. Plus it's not a full "shutdown", it's a partial shutdown. And it is estimated to last until the 6th of October.`

Just saw that story break on BBC news and various websites. WTF is wrong with these people? I must be hearing about an American shooting every few days now and I live in the UK! The US needs to get it's shit together, seriously...

But wait Washington D.C. is a gun free zone how could shots be fired?

So far not a lot of info car chase someone tries to ram a white house barricade and flees from police. Have injured police and most likely a dead suspect. I wouldn't be surprised if the shots fired were from the police but I'm sure we'll have a lot more info soon.

A gun free zone in a country that has a constitutional right to own and operate a deadly projectile weapon is a fucking joke if you ask me. But hey that's a different discussion (gun control) isn't it really.

Yeah, if all guns are illegal in a country then getting hold of them is difficult. Once you make them legal then anyone can get hold of one and shoot someone whenever and wherever they want. All you can do is wish very hard that you and your family isn't worth a bullet to someone.

See thats not exactly true since people that want a weapon will get it regardless but with them being legal but regulated anyone can defend themselves

the problem is a lack of education and respect for the firearm

Hence my Sarcastic comment. Definitely another discussion for another thread somewhere.

In this case the only shooting was done by police taking down the driver.

    I sit quietly in Canada.

    (chuckles internally)

But yeah, I do feel bad for those 1 million some-odd workers that need to keep the country together without pay. Not to mention the rest of the workers out of pay AND a job (for the time being).

You'd think they'd have some sort of plan to prevent this, right? I honestly thought that the government could never just "stop" like this. It's baffling, really.

There's one thing that definitely needs to happen right now in America.....

Michael Moore should release a Sicko/Bowling for Columbine box set! :p

Even educated people go bat shit from time to time. Having access to weaponry whether you're educated or not makes little difference when that person decides the world has dealt them a shitty hand and decides some random strangers would be better off 'well ventilated'.

The only people that should be allowed to carry weapons in any first world country should be the military, law enforcement and specialists/hobbyists (in licensed shooting ranges ect), nobody other than government vetted/accountable people should be allowed to carry them around on the street. The gun culture in America just seems completely nut-balls insane to me and a lot of the rest of the world, evidenced by the fact that they're over there shooting each other on a daily basis.

Make the damn things completely illegal to possess and let law enforcement begin the task of removing as many of them off the streets as possible, it won't happen over night but you've got to start somewhere and end this madness I'd say.

Every time I hear someone defend gun laws in america, not 24 hours after that you hear about ANOTHER nut bag killing scores of people for little to no reason and it just makes me shake my head in disbelief.

Right because police and military never lose it?

This would be disastrous for America. It would end in martial law in the best case scenario. Americans won't let the government take their guns. This is definitely a very european view of the problem. For Europeans guns are "scary" every single one I've talked to it makes them afraid and most can't even explain why. Also America has much larger problems if you are trying to save lives.

Statistically nowhere near as much as the general public do so yeah.

I hear you on your other points above and beyond that comment, it would definitely be an ugly process indeed. And yeah it's typically a European view because none of us over here have grown up dealing with this nonsense. For someone raised in that environment of course it probably isn't scary, what most Europeans will try to tell you is that you fucking should be scared. If not for yourself, then for your future son or daughter (presuming you don't have any already) that could get shot in the head by a depressed nut bag who was bullied on some college campus/school.
