I've been wondering how many original titles on DC actually survived DC and moved onto another platform. 1. Ports don't count, only sequels. 2. Must have originated on dreamcast. I'll start off with Crazy Taxi though some might argue what came after was utter shit. Crazy Taxi Seaman
Jet Set Radio Airforce Delta Phantasy Star Online (I don't think people really consider these expansions of the old school PS games) Sword of the Berserk Metropolis Street Racer (maybe it doesn't count? Technically Project Gotham Racing games are spiritual sequels to it) Tokyo Xtreme Racer
Some would argue it's not a DC original, as it's a Naomi game. When you say "made it off" you mean sequels went to another system, or the game was ported? Sequels: Jet Set Radio -> Jet Set Radio Future (I started playing Future again this last week. These two games are better than anything this gen by a mile). Ports: Space Channel 5 (ported to PS2) Rez: A weird one, since it was released on the PS2 at pretty much the same time. And with a vibrator. Grandia II Maken X (Maken X Shao on PS2...I think it's a port) PSO - Gamecube Rent-a-Hero (to Xbox...unreleased) Shenmue II (Xbox) If you want to count Naomi originals as DC originals, the following have been ported to other systems. Usually PS2. Trizeal Trigger Heart Exelica Radilgy Psyvariar 2 Ikaruga Most notably one that has not been ported: Border Down
Games that got sequels on other platforms: (including games that had their origin in the arcade i.e. naomi): Jet Set Radio (JSRF) Crazy Taxi (various sequels) Virtua Tennis (various sequels) Tokyo Bus Guide (sequel for ps2) ChuChu Rocket (GBA sequel) Headhunter (sequel for ps2) Kita e (sequel for PS2) Metropolis Street Racer! (->pgr) Mr Driller (various sequels/ports) Samba de Amigo (wii sequel) Seaman (ps2 sequel) Silent Scope (ps2 sequels) Soul Calibur (various sequels) Super Runabout (ps1/2 sequels) Berzerk (ps2 sequel, although one could call that also just "another game based on the manga") and the whole 2K sports-series I checked my DC complete list for that. Very likely I missed out some sequels to various adventure/ren'ai games. @GP Rent-A-Hero has actually been released on Xbox, just the US version was cancelled.
HeadHunter - HeadHunter Redemption got releasedon PS2 and XBOX Maken X - think a sequel was released on PS2 Virtua Tennis I guess. Virtua Tennis 2 got ported to PS2 but Virtua Tennis 3 was released on 360 and PS3 with other sequels on PSP (Virtua Tennis world Tour for example) plus the NFL 2K, NBA 2K, NHL2K games I guess. Virtua Striker 2 had a sequel released on GameCube (Virtua Striker 3) although whether you'd count this as originating on DC or not is subject to debate. Guess it was the first "home" version. Sega GT - Sega GT 2002 and Sega GT Online both got released on XBox Chu Chu Rocket - think the GameBoy Advance one was sort of a port but didn't it include loads more levels etc too?
PSO: Episode 3 - C.A.R.D Revolution is a GC-only title, and the third installment in the PSO series, but not many people recall its exclusivity to the GC platform. Also, PSO I&II is a port and a sequel at the same time, was released on the XBOX and GC, and some bloated versions on the PC. I m surprised no one mentioned Soul Calibur. It was this iteration of the game that made it into a franchise, not the arcade version. Dead or Alive also saw a new era thanks to the DC. Sonic's 3D revival could be considered a DC-first. Samba De Amigo, a sequel can be found on the Wii (I wouldn't mind a Floigan Brothers port/sequel by the way, also a DC original) And that's just what comes to my mind right now - my knowledge of the DC is nowhere near that of some other members around here, I m more the N64/GC/Wii type, so feel free to add and correct me =)
Yeah, there loads of new stuff but essentially it's the same as the DC original. I played the original ChuChuRocket to death and had quite some fun with the GBA version, but it didn't last that long in my GB Player as there was nothing really new added, after all it was just a port. @barc0de I listed Soul Calibur
Assuming you meant franchises (since we're only talking sequels) where the first console (so ignoring sega arcade translations) it was on was the DC: Aero Elite / Aero Dancing 4 for the PS2, the other three were on DC. *ALL* the SEGA 2K sports series NFL 2K, NBA 2K, NHL 2K, all of these started on the DC and then migrated to other consoles after the first year or two. Phantasy Star Online (I guess it's its own mini-series within the Phantasy Star one) started as DC only then DC/PC and onward. Sonic Adventure (again if you count it like some sort of branch) started as DC only, SA2 was subsequently ported to GC and onward. There are plenty more but you'll have to define your terms a bit more.
I suppose we really need to ask, what non sega series started on DC. I've been thinking about DC, and it seems like a sargasso sea of one platform titles.
No, the Saturn had Victory Goal and that sorts of stuff. The original VS's were probably hard to port to any console as the ports just started with the Naomi Virtua Striker's (part 3 and following). I don't know what kind of arcade hardware the first few games ran on but definitely not ST-V.
perhaps most sales weren't exactly encouraging for publishers so those titles never made it into a franchise.
18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker was a DC (well, Naomi) original and it got a sequel called King Of Route 66 on PS2. Ready 2 Rumble Boxing was on many platforms, but the DC version was the first one released and the series got a Wii sequel. Typing Of The Dead got a PC sequel, Typing Space Harrier...OK, maybe that's a bit of a stretch. Another interesting list is all the Sega DC original games that were never ported to any other console, there aren't too many of them: Shenmue, Virtua Tennis, Crazy Taxi 2, Cosmic Smash, Sega Extreme Sports and Sports Jam at least.
Started on Namco's System10 hardware. Not even close to a DC/Naomi original. Are you going to make me dig up my bong and or Nelsom Munts "Ha Ha" pictures? Where did this get a sequel to? I just picked this game up, and I must say, it's very fun. Plenty of the franchises listed are Sega's.

Please do, I m always in a mood of getting high after all. Nevertheless, if the Soul Edge/Soul Blade series was so popular they wouldnt follow the whole franchise up on Soul Calibur and its 3 sequels. It was the DC version that gave the game its on-going fuel to this day thanks to its stunning graphics at the time and the pleasant gameplay - which has some major differences from Soul Edge/Blade. If you just wanted an excuse to bring out a bong, nevermind the above reply ;P
