I must just add that I had lots of friends with f-ed up screens b\c of to much gaming, it was like (atleast) a whole row of dead pixels. :-(
I think the problem nowadays is that you are constantly bombarded with news about dying consoles in all forms. In the past one console with a fault didn't bring down the rumoured quality of a product, mostly because it was one smegging console and that isn't world-class news. However, with the advent of the internet comes the odd report of one busted console and it becomes a worldwide phenomenon.
The Wii's main issue seems to stem from leaving Connect 24 on, as the cooling solution is not sufficient by any means. Turn that off and you're on rock solid GC-quality road! DREs were as common on the GC, if not more, as they are on the Wii. Nothing kills an n64 however, and I mean nothing
I don't know much about Sony USA but in the UK Sony repairs are conducted without receipts (in fact without proof of purchase) and within 24hrs. They deliver to your door a new unit as they take the dead unit away. This has been the same policy throughout the PS series, other than the PS2 (where you require proof of date of purchase) and if you were outside it you paid $100 and got a refurbished unit, however it would come with originally a years warranty and later in the series a 6 months warranty. Sorry to hear you've had such bad luck.
I think we can all agree that they don't make them like they used to. Kinda helps that there are a lot more moving parts.
my gamecubes controllers tended to have a right thumbstick breaking after some time. i just remembered that.
Actually my first Dreamcast bought for Christmas died in the first week h:. Really strange how it happened though. I was playing House of the Dead 2 and was quite near the end when I shot a "power up". The screen went black and I realised I'd just shot one of them that drains your health, but alas instead of killing me, it killed the system which refused to start again. Got a replacement without any hassle though.
I have never had a console die til xbox1 and I have had several Xbox1's die, so this generation does have a lot more faulty hardware (except wii, wii is perfect) My brothers 360 has been replaced 4 times til he got sick of it and moved up to an elite. My 360 worked fine since launch then died recently. I thought I had got lucky and it wasn't gonna break too. I think that if you just had someone put some fresh paste on the 360 under the gpu and xclamp it for you, it should hold up for a while.
ALL 360s manufactured up to this date are going to break down at some point, and this is a mathematical certainty. There's an issue in their craftmanship and its inherit in the design of the system as it stands.
The first and only machine that has given me issues is my 360. I changed my launch model because it was giving DRE with almost every use. The one they sent me works ok till today, though it has a strange behaviour with two games, TDU and PGR4. I can understand the occasional DRE with TDU, as the console is loading the isle's surroundings almost always, but PGR4 directly doesn't boot (it booted only the first time I tried it), and the DVD is in perfect condition. All the other games (I have around 60) work flawlessly.
The PS3 failure rate is much much lower than X360's, like .02% I think. But the thing is X360 has great games, the PS3 doesnt. Therefore if your X360 keeps breaking is a real pain in the ass not being able to play said games, while the PS3 is more of a "meh" situation... Anyway, here's my top 5 of console durability: 1-MK1 Genesis= fucking bomb proof, it could take all kinds of falls from coffe tables or TV sets. The damn reset button would jam and my buddy would fix it with a knife, no prob:rambo: 2-N64= just cant be destroyed, but the analog joystick was a real piece of crap. What a contradiction... 3-Saturn= I must have hauled this black brick all over the world, always in a suitcase, so only god knows what the assholes at the airport did to it. Still working fine. 4-32X= whats ironic is that among the tons of faulty units, if you got one working out-of-the-box it was virtually undestructible. 5=Gamecube = bullet proof, and the little handle on the backs makes it perfect to lug around:nod:
if that was true, I wouldnt have been playing my PS3 more then my 360 (which I had 8 months of this PS3s life); you overestimate the quality of 360 games, and underestimate the quality of PS3 games. Oh, and I have a Wii, its just that having 2 or 3 PS3 games that I havent played kind of irks me heh
Heres my experience Gameboy- Work of art completely no problems N64- Rock solid Playstation 1- Pretty good Playstation 2- Rock solid Dreamcast- Had some problems but still an amazing system Gamecube- Solid as a rock Xbox- Solid as a black brick can get Xbox 360- Only shit can describe it and its to kind PS3- Pretty solid for me so far PSP- One of the best things I've ever brought
They were thinking that they could sell you a GBA SP with added back/front light later on! I've had good luck with the consoles/handhelds that I own, but I do tend to baby them. I have come across a few GCs that had/were developing DREs, but have been able to fix them with a slight pot adjustment. My very first 2600 (brought used) used to have NES-like issues, where'd you'd need to reseat the cartridges occasionally. I'd love to have a 360, but so far the whole RROD debacle is keeping me away.
Yeah, I actually told the rep over the 'phone that my original PS CD drive was dying but that it was out of warranty and he told me they would repair it for free anyway. That was back in 1996. Borman - Is there a dust problem in your house? Or do you smoke? I am not blaming you, just curious. Also, the 80GB one plays every one of my PS2 games fine without any errors or faults, so you might be OK if they replace it with one of those.
