Most other primates, quite a few have elongated canine teeth, but they aren't needed in the same way as a cat or dog. Also, the biggest problem with "humans weren't designed to eat meat" is: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/proteinase If we weren't meant to eat it, we wouldn't have it, the human body evolved long before reconstituted soya products were around.
For thousands of years meat was special and not available every day. And now, for a few hundred years meat is available in vast quantities. The human body is not adapted to our current lifestyle, thus all those overweight people (I am overweight myself, but still!). I won't say not eating meat is unhealthy, but eating big portions of meat every day sure is not healthy either. Portion size often is more than 200% of what is needed nutrition wise.
Someone mentioned that they eat meat but only organic, freerange, handfed blah blah blah ...... Can I ask you why this is? I have been having a moral battle with myself for the past couple of months regarding this exact same thing. My girlfriend has watched all the programmes on the TV and now we can't buy anything that isn't organic or freerange! Why is it you feel less guilty eating something that has been allowed to run around a field for the 70 days of its life rather than stuck in a cage? Aren't they both being reared for the same thing in the end anyway; to eat?!
I was raised on a farm and frankly I'll eat meat until it kills me, which given the way some manufacturers are prepared to process it might be sooner than you lovely, delightful, guilt free and glowing vegans, however who wants to be stuck on a dying planet with a pile of foul methane smelling beauties surrounded by animals you name and can't get rid of? :noooo:
Parris, you know cows wouldn't be such an abomination if we didn't keep breeding them for food. My mother was raised on a farm, as well. Kept and slaughtered their own livestock. The only thing bad about her eating habits is how loud she chews sometimes, but... haha! Anyways. Free range is nice. I certainly don't condone (nor was ever happy with when I did eat meat) how at the very least chickens are bred and held. Some people are pissed about slaughter and the methods that are supposedly inhumane and blah blah blah, but I think killing is where one should be pissed, not that a cow bled to death upside down. Not that I want my throat cut and my blood drained, either... Speaking of free-range... Anyone have a Chipotle restaurant near them (at least people here in the states)? I was parked at a wal-mart the other day, enjoying the night and some music in my car, and noticed a McDonald's truck loading into the back of Chipotle. Chipotle is known for their free-range animal products and overall quality and environmental thoughtfulness, or at least that's what they post everywhere. Wikipedia says : "In the past, McDonald's Corperation owned a majority interest in Chipotle. McDonald's has since sold their entire stake in Chipotle; full divestment was completed in October 2006." Huh? That's odd. Man, I don't know where I'm going with this. I always just drop off a bunch of random thoughts when topics get serious and then look like a dweeb. One thing that gets me, is animal products in the sence of clothing. I've got leather shit. A belt, a nice wallet, nice shoes, some sneakers, and there's some leather on one of my coats. I get a lot of shit for being a vegitarian and not getting rid of these things. Does anyone think that's weird? It's not like I'm trying to put up some sort of facade (legitimate or not) or make a statement about myself in the construction of my clothing. Some people say I should throw away these items, and I think, "Wouldn't that be even more of a disgrace to the animal from which this item came from?" Fine, I'll go donate them and someone else can use them. "NO, then THEY will be using animal products." What!? Hey, no, screw you, I'm not even going to use your body even though you certainly aren't using it anymore. I'm not going at least give you the dignity as being used and useful in my life, and your death will be in vain. Blah! These items have given me years of service, and I think it's at least honorable to realize where they came from and be thankful of their longevity and quality. ...And I'm off!
And that has what to do w/ the issue? The issue is necessary proteins. Necessary to turn into the hulk... maybe not. Necessary to be in far better shape than the average joe blow... not that difficult.
I am a meat eater myself and while having respect for the people that choose not to eat meat many do it for different reasons Some do it as a fashion statement, some to belong to a group, some people in need of a distraction due to depressions or trauma's think it might make them feel better about themselfs or the world they live in, just to name a few. But in any case, power to you if you feel it helps with whatever you are struggling with or if it makes you feel better about yourself or the big bad world. If it's a pure mix of your own health, feeling for the animals life and not preaching it to others then I can only have respect. Please I am not talking about every veggy, so don't flame me because you feel attacked or something. My opinion on what would be best, while not really giving a shit myself I do value freerange/organic and such over normal processed meat because I do believe animals eaten/killed should be able to have a better life in that short time.. I would wish the same for myself. The best thing to do both for health and just wanting to be human would be to cut down on eating meat but still eat it for your proteines and when you do going organic/freerange etc. or better yet get the damn insects in our supermarkets dammit! why is this taking so long? come on people start eating those buggars What really gets to me sometimes is the discrimination between animals of meat eaters, I would eat ANY animal that would not make me sick or is culture in some other country. (excluding apes for reasons you can think of yourself) What is the difference between a cow and a dog? a horse and a chicken? a cat and a fish? or pig and insects? We in the west tend to think its outrageous to eat dog but we kill cows in all ways possible? I never really got that, I remember being in South Korea during the worldcup and wanting to eat dog as an experiance, the funny thing was they made it illigal to serve dog in restaurants during the worldcup because they were afraid of complaining westeners/animal rights groups and such.. and eventually getting me some dog meat looked like a drugs deal in a back room of a restaurant.. wtf

Because just as I could be impressed by a vegan diet's ability to produce an impressive physique, I'm unimpressed by it's ability to create one that is astounding. That makes me think the entire scale of muscular size is shifted considerably for vegans.
lets see I'm not a self rightous tree hugging eco terror supporting PETA member check and I'm not a Guido nope not a douchebag
I love meat, just not junk or fried (usually). I m all for steam-boiled, boiled, cooked, grilled, bbqed etc though. I also love raw fish, although good sushi places are expensive and hard to come by around niah.
Well I don't think it's "clever" or "novel", it's just funny if you know the person. I don't go up to complete strangers and make a point that they are eating dead animal flesh. Besides they might mistake me for someone who is against that.
That's why I mentioned it. It's a bit of an outlier. Made from bones? But this shit is vibratious and delicious! I'm not the person who gets pissed when they find out there's some meat-related item far down in the list of ingredients on something. Hell, I ate some veggie soup the other day and didn't realize until after I started that it had some beef stock or something in it. "oh well."
