He has the caddie - check his video.

He needs a replacement drive for his "I waited 10 years" purchase, so im sure he can deal with £24 including shipping to fix his "complete loss" item.

Like I suspected originally, it was repairable as I politely attempted to point out in post #6

It's not the easy to find drive, it's the drive box it needs as the
system is only compatible with one make of drive box.

You can buy cde100's all day , but it's a situation like the
special cd for game dovtor sf, it's the interface the software
    was written for...

I tried swapping in a cde102 and no go, the drive had custom firmware.
The drive has no firmware as you would recognize, instead it has a special
bios or similar that controls the drive in a plcc type package. I hope
pull the plcc chip and read it, but my eprom reader has no plcc module.

And yes this is supposed to write 1x and not at 4x it won't work.
I tried the 4x drive and the commands to the laser are different.

Remember they sold 1x and 4x the same time ,and the 1x had an
intentionally gimped laser to prevent modding.

Hmm guess there's much more to this item's abilities than I thought.

So what exactly does a complete Saturn Mastering unit consist of? And what does it burn? CD-Rs?

Proprietary interface enclosure and a cde100 with custom bios.

So take the board from your dead CDR100 that has the correct custom firmware and put it into the replacement drive from ebay.

You already have the whole unit. I am not implying the CDR100 is the entire unit - I am saying for £24 you can fix the one you have been waiting 10 years for. Or if you already have a replacement drive (which it sounds like you do) it will cost you nothing.

You also said you got a refund, but in your video you have taken it apart - so I assume you got refunded and still got to keep the unit...?

If so, that makes your complete purchase free including the repair...

Its quite repairable with a little effort, not a complete loss - hence my original comments in post 6.

Also, if you just wanted to dump the custom bios/firmware - you can send me the PLCC chip you have pulled and I will read it for you. (I could even program you are replacement if you provide a blank).

Also, which programmer do you have? because even Willem's have a PLCC adapter set - so you should be able to get one?

Chip looks like PLCC44 from the video?
