instead of making a game you could make a megademo which pushes the N64 to its limits. water and mirror effects, high resolution graphics, Expansion Pak support and so many other ideas could be combined in a such a demo. You could also recycle parts of your previous work.
But a game would be more fun. If you have more fun with a demo than you have with a game, your nerdiness has reached the ultimate level.
I had to laugh when I saw thing. It's really funny and creative. Could be quite a silly but fun game.
Wow! Really impressive as others have said. The racing game engine and cut scene demo's are clearly super impressive but I really liked the plane too. Really impressive stuff - Good Work that man. The puzzle game looks fun too. In terms of relatively simple games you could do all the art assets for yourself maybe something in the vein of a Twin Stick shooter like Geometry Wars or RoboTron using the C buttons and the analogue stick (or alternatively two N64 controllers) Not saying this is simple as I can't even code in Basic (other than 10 Print "Hello" 20 GoTo 10 Run etc) but I would imagine that you could knock up/model fairly abstract and distinct enemies and code each with different attack patterns etc Also as you could introduce them slowly as the levels progress you could start with one basic enemy type and then add them as you go. Alternatively maybe a port of something like Chu Chu Rocket - The N64 has 4 controller ports so would lend itself to the game. Also not too many graphics needed - basic back-drops, mice (or whatever you choose to use instead) and Cats (AleyCat 64 model as an unlockable perhaps!) and Rockets, then the arrows. Could lay the arrows using the c buttons for the four directions. Whatever you choose to do keep up te good work. That video is the most impressive home coding I've seen for ages.
My vote is for "poo on doorstep" but with a person not a cat. Have a stealth "noise" meter Have an "urgency" meter Urgency reduces with leg crossing and humming, but creates noise that attracts the occupants. Then a ddr style time attack to light the match, ring door, light paper bag.
I'd also love to see you do something with that alley cat work. Something fairly simple could be like a catch so many mice, in a set amount of time, as they dash out of trash cans or cracks in the wall type of thing. Or maybe another simple idea involving the cat could be protect the cheese. Where you just have to block mice from taking to many pieces of your cheese before the time runs up.
I have an idea now that I'm going to take further, it's an "adaptation" of the racing engine in other news, I spent 20 hours dorking with my skidmark code, only to find I forgot to #define F3DEX_GBI to use the new microcode -_-
oh geez. Just finished moving over all my old car physics code from the old engine to the new one. The new one is a lot easier to use, supports multiple threads (graphics, audio) and the audio library. How about a Outrun-style game, but with guns and drugs? LOL
That would rock actually. I ve always missed a modern cop-chase game accross some arcadey landscapes. An addictive scoring system is a must!!! PS: put a cat easter egg at least ;P i like cats
Some fantastic work in the video. Congrats on the hard work you've put in over the last four years. I'm sure there will be people willing to do some art for whatever project you decide to do as long as it's an achievable small project. If you did a 3d platformer I'd be willing to knock some content up for you.
Looks better with antialiasing, I swear my framebuffer-cap code can't replicate the AA because it's applied as the video signal is being generated.
