I have to say, I'm somewhat fascinated by the concept of even just a small demo of Halo on DS. Other than that, I'll toss my vote into the Shenmue on Saturn camp. I dunno, stuff like that fascinates me, even if it wasn't changed too much content/gameplay wise in the transition over to Dreamcast as said earlier in this thread. Oh, and Clay Fighter Extreme would be nice. I'd go so far as to even call that one of my holy grails.
I've given this some thought, but probably Namco: Starblade Operation Blue Planet O.R.B.S. which was cancelled as far as I can tell whilst still at prototype stage in 2002. Bandai used the majority of the work done in development for one of the Gundam titles. Something about it just appeals to me, but the chances of obtaining it are highly, highly unlikely, which is a real shame. Sorry for size of images, but it is getting increasingly difficult to obtain them. The main website "System 16" for such arcade material has ceased to exist at present. This was the design for the prototype cabinet. As you can see from the image below it was infact put into testing production. (I feel that any information should be preserved so I apologise for filling this thread with it before it disappears off the Net for ever). Anyone with further images, information or location of said prototype please feel free to PM me. This has got to be my ultimate freaking game!
That looks really nice. I've been reading up on Galaxian 3 a lot lately. For those of you out there who aren't familiar with it, it's more of a pseudo-sequel to Starblade than it is to Galaxian and the cabinet was a huge theater kind of thing with 6 player support and two projectors displaying streaming backgrounds off of two laserdisc players while the actual enemy ships and such were polygon rendered. This thread from the Dragon's Lair Fans forum chronicles this guy's experience in buying a Galaxian 3 cabinet (gah, I hate using that word in this kind of situation because it's like calling a nuclear missle a firecracker) and it's an interesting read. Apparently there was a Playstation 1 port of the game released too that supported the Playstation mouse and the multitap. I wouldn't mind trying that out one of these days... That ORBS cabinet is the one used for the Gundam: Senjo no Kizuna title, by the way.
Thanks for that information. I have seen Starblade and thought "Hmmm, yeah that looks okay" as it reminds me of Star Wars arcade titles or even some Atari / Amiga material. It's a massive leap from one to the other and I think a title of this sort on a current gen console would be amazing.
Starblade's not a bad game at all. It was ported to PS2 as a loading screen game/unlockable in Tekken 5, and it got ported to some other CD-based consoles too. As far as rail-based shooters go you could go a lot worse. Shame about that sequel/revamp though, it looks like it would've been pretty fun.
Yeah I remember that, the cabinet was supposed to use a Epson (I think) projector located under the joystick platform with a special set of lens that display the image in a concave semisphere. Too bad they cancelled it... They had one of those in an arcade I went to years ago. I didnt know the background was prerendered tought, maybe cuz all the graphics looked kinda crappy/not awesome enough as to think it was a recording...
Hmmm... a while back there was a topic on this... http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-7323.html Did anything ever turn up?
I doubt anything except malaria is coming out of india. I am willing to be that the game is real. Interplay is still around, a polite question or two might get results. Now if there is any truth to there being M2 code for that game lying around.. http://www.us.playstation.com/PSone/Games/Clay_Fighter_Extreme
Some more here http://hisashim.livejournal.com/16306.html Follow links on that page it's full of images and got even a video!!! More in here as well: http://www.dragonslairfans.com/outsidethelair/starblade/starblade.htm with video of the cockpit (needs divx codec)
Ahhhhhhhh! That has made me even more determined to hunt that game down until the ends of the earth! :love2: Thanks!
