no, the XBOX is an actual PC in a box - embedded to a certain degree, but ultimately a PC in a box, even down to the OS routines (checking for a floppy drive etc). It's a matter of degree, don't turn a blind eye to what is known for fact. Ultimately: a) this discussion has been made before and is off topic b) Henners said it best, new name-> new market perception-> new product. imagine cellphones. Many of them share the same exact components but have subtle differences, yet are marketed to different audiences under different price tags.
look at action figures. How marny 6 inch darth vaders are there. Is there a bvig difference? no. Are they considered the same toy? no.
What is a PC? does it have to be X86? thats a standard, yet many PCs didnt use those processors. The PC is function: if something can perform the same functions that a PC does the IT IS a PC. Macs, beyond what apple says, are PCs. MS used a PC to make the Xbox, but since the only way to barely get some PC funciontionality out of it is to hack it, then is not a PC. The irony here is that the PS3 is, in that sense, more of a PC than the Xbox was, since you can install Linux without modchips or flash/moding it. Dude I know you arent dumb at all, so why do you have to bring such bad examples to make your point?. Theres no "subtle differences" between a cheapo Nokia phone and a N95. A phone that costs $400 usually packs a more than considerable difference with one thats half that much money. The problem here are the enormous price disparities: the GC was $99 in september 2003. That was more than 4 years ago, and with a profit, so today it would be maybe $60 or less. If we add the motion and network part of the Wii, plus the tweaks in hardware it may reach $100, $120 tops. Now, wheres the rest of the $250 bucks it sells for? Anyway, thats my opinion. On the other hand and on Wii's defense, we havent seen the kind of price cuts on X360 and PS3 that we saw in PS2/Xbox or PSX/Saturn. But since the PS3 is just breaking even now, and after all the money MS lost, I'll say being a slightly overpriced doesnt counts in this case.
If you don't like it, don't buy it. Look at the cost of cars, or anything. It's BUSINESS. Nintendo will charge as they see fit, and consumers will pay what they see fit.
Well wait, aren't Gamecube's still 99$ retail? Or did it drop? I think at least when Wii was first launched it was 99$.
You can still walk in a store and buy one now though, and I think retail there 99$. Used there dirt cheap I know, which is cool since it's an awesome system. Reminds me of Dreamcast days but I already played the hell out of my Cube. I googled and you've probably already seen this and stuff might be cheaper now, but: Graphics chip: $29.60 CPU: $13.00 DRAM: $7.80 Optical disk drive: $31.00 Power supply: $11.30 Manufacturing cost: $19.50 Cost total: $158.30 Wholesale price: $195.99 But that's not including the Wiimote, game, nunchuk, and cables. So, I dunno. Doesn't seem too terrible to me. Although, if there was a version with no Wii Sports, that price would probably be awesome. I just never play that game, nor do my friends, but it was fun when I first got the system.
It's probably from when Wii was released. I didn't even supply a link. I don't care anyway. Even if stuff is cheaper now it's not robbery, except maybe if there charging a bunch for Wii Sports.
It must be way older dude, how could nintendo be losing $97 for every GC sold, specially so long into the console's life? Plus I heard they were making a profit on the $99 GC, so production costs were actually lower than the MSRP. And Wii sport is just an excuse, pretty much any console during the last 12 years came with a demo disc, or even a full game.
nintendo lowered the GC price in order to attract customers, as do Sony and MS now. They weren't losing cash, but I m not so sure they were making tons of it either. Your claim is exagerated. There have been many consoles that launch without a packed-in game or a demo. The n64 for example, or the GC, and also the Wii in Japan, just to name a few.
We were talking about the GC, ergo my supposition... That was in 2006, today it must at least near the $120 I was talking about. And all of those are nintendo-made. Like the guy who only plays CS all day, do you know there are other consoles out there? The N64 was a different case since the cartridge costs were too high to give away for free, but any other console like Saturn, PSX, DC, PS2, Xbox, PS3 and X360 have had at least a demo disc bundled with even the basic SKU. Now, Wii sports is a little more than a demo, but I doubt anyone here thinks is really worth $50...
Nintendo is, Nintendo do. We are talking about the Wii and Nintendo in extent, are we not? I don't recall the 360 or the original XBOX comming with any discs either. Also, don't call Wii sports a demo - it's a nice little game that keeps plenty of people busy, including "hardcore" gamers like myself and my friends. Japanese consumers seem to also enjoy the game, even though it's sold seperately. besides, how many demos have you seen attracting so much attention? I ve had girls (the hot type demographic) asking me to put on Wii Sports to play golf for example - that's pretty impressive and a good ice-breaker - Well worth the 50 dollars if it works with the ladies ;-)
You cant allegate that we're only talking about nintendo if we're also making comparisons with other consoles that are not nintendo-made. And Wiisport is no demo, but it isnt a full game either, so its more like between the two, but its short nature more than explains why I said slightly more. And about the ladies, heres my protip: booze is cheaper:dance::lol:
that would include nintendo systems btw =) PS: i don't drink booze, i ve got a bad stomach =( Besides, where's the accomplishment if you're intoxicating someone to get in bed with you? Can't be good for the ego.
using booze to get girls: They dont' actually like you using games: They enjoy you Now, can we shut the fuck up about the wii? If you don't like it shadowlayer, don't buy it. Or, make a new thread. Because this is about Smash Brawl, so let's FUCKING talk about Brawl. Seriously.
Has anyone checked out Sonic or Solid Snake and how good they are in Brawl yet? I guess Yakumo has played it.
