These 2 quotes right here sting. You cant escape it even if you get off the internet. And the second one is correct, because I haven't watched TV (or streaming hulu, netflix, crunchyroll, etc) for 4 years now. The visual medium does not work with me. A phone in this age is like a PC (and like game systems). They're all designed with different specs, many good many bad, many out-dated many new and powerful. Buying a Mac in this age is age is no different from buying a PC aside from the hardware and power you get. The only change is how you interface with it. You can get the same results as a Mac with a Windows PC or system running Linux for video editing, photo editing, music composition, programming etc. And just like above, phones have the same result. The only difference now is price. Apple sells at a high premium for no justified reason and they damn well know it. Same exact configuration and components can be purchased at a lower price than what they sell for. In other news the PS4 Pro (NEO) is a sandwich design and I'm upset about its aesthetic. Completely ruins everything (but i like the slim design and the power the NEO provides)
Us, as computer nerds, are aware of this. To normal people, a phone is just an appliance, used as a means to an end. They care about as much about the RAM and CPU in their phone, as they care about the Litres/Min of the pump in their dishwasher. I.e. zero. In fact, they usually care more about things like presentation, integration, reliability, after-sales service, and resale value. Areas where iPhone destroys the competition. If you honestly believe that a device is only the sum of its parts, then Apple is not for you, they don't claim to be, and never will be. You probably also think that a components list is a valid way to compare a self-built PC with a Dell. Edit: I.e. If you can strike out the value of having someone else assemble the system for you, someone else loading the software and getting all the drivers working, loading software, and being there to help you with problems when they come up, that's great, and the price difference of the Dell is just wasted money for you. But for others, the extra inclusions represent a good value proposition. Similarly, iPhone might have a higher sticker price than comparable handsets from other vendors, but being able to get service+support at a convenient Apple Store, being able to get help from friends that also have iPhones, and all those sorts of things, actually represent value adds to most people. Besides, it's a free market, Apple charges what you call "a high premium for no justified reason"because people are willing to pay for it, and since they have positive ownership experiences with their products, they are happy to continue paying for it. Hype and marketing will only get people in the door, they do nothing for repeat business.
iOS or Android. It is like cod or salmon. It is all a matter of taste. And salmon taste like SHEEEEEEEEEIT!
Look at this picture. It triggers me You can stop replying any time. You will not get anywhere with me. Here's my rant. Open as you desire. Spoiler If a company can put a raspberry pi in an electroplated shell, fill the rest of the empty space with batteries, make the only USB port also the charging port, and call it a "premium" and "elegant" device and then mark the value up 150-200% of what it should be then they are a company that thinks its also okay to hold back technological advances for the sake of profit. Yes I understand this is not meant for heavy duty rendering and is instead supposed to be a netbook, but even there it fails on many needs people would need even on a netbook. All that empty space is for the battery. All of it. If they can think it's okay to sell a device with a major design flaw for a premium and then blame the people that bought it then they clearly dont care what they sell or make for people. As someone that knows mechanical engineering and manufacturing, this is something that would never be okay no matter what you do or who you are - UNLESS YOU'RE APPLE because they can make anything and people would eat that shit up. Theres a reason we have things like pic below. Any student engineer or professional engineer would never allow a device that demands that thin of aluminum for this device no matter how much they're paid. If I buy a device I want it functional and well built. If I have to build it myself I will do so. If it costs money then is the price given representing the actual quality and performance of the product? If I'm going to buy a Mac and need A, B, C, D, X, Y, Z then its going to cost an exceeding amount of money - or I can just buy a pre-built with the same power and performance for a fraction of the price, or I can just build it myself and get that price down even further. Oh you need a drive that supports triple layer BD-RE? Sure thats the top of the line drive and will cost a lot but for the price of that drive compared to what you can get for Apple's prices you're getting far more bang for your buck. If Apple had that available on their store right now you would pay double what you would pay for that drive. Why? Because it's "Apple approved". Hell I'm complaining about price and power this whole time, and I'm not even a man that needs or wants the top of the line power. I need what suits my needs and activities. My power demand is still much higher than what Apple will ever provide for their devices. I have an i5-4440 with 8gb RAM and a 750ti. It's not amazingly powerful, yet it still manages to show more promise and longevity than the latest All in one desktops Apple sells. Right now I'm rolling with an LG G2. Before that I had an LG Spectrum 2 (speaking of which no expandable storage and no removable battery bugs me to no end). And you know what? Despite being outdated in terms of age they STILL manage to be far better to suit my needs. Why? Because everything I need to do is already satisfied without jailbreaking my device and voiding my warranty. I can do so much without having to break the product rules. I promise you, no matter what Apple will release will only be able to cater to those who don't understand technology and will just trust Apple for what they should buy and do. I can't tell you how many people I encounter that ask for a list of things that are basic knowledge to do or get on any other platform - even Blackberry manages to do it right and I'm amazed they can even stay relevant. I don't mean to bash owners of Apple devices because the person using it is varied. What they do, why and how is diverse, but if this is a thread to be ready for iPhone 7 then you should really consider just how much profit apple gets for selling things that are underpowered with poor build quality and still have ass-backwards logic. No headphone jack? Okay buy our adapter that takes up the charging port. Oh you wanna charge your device? Take out the headphones. Removing basic things like this even got Oneplus to take stabs at it - which makes it even harder to escape the iPhone 7 news. Here's what you need to know. I don't care what you use, I don't care why, but supporting Apple is supporting a company that holds back progression that we can be putting to good use. Removing basic features for "simplicity" when it's merely a way for them to profit more from selling extra peripherals just to make your life simpler is not acceptable. Yes plenty of companies do this and are guilty of it, but Apple needs to stop. People need to stop buying from Apple. People need to stop caring for Apple. They aren't the same company they were when computers were new machines entering homes. Times have changed and they should too. tl;dr Fuck Apple. Fuck what they sell. Fuck what they do. They need to stop.
Again, ANYONE would have said that aluminum is too thin to be able to be used without bending. Theres a damn good reason "bendgate" was a thing when that device was released. There's a damn good reason people argued about it. THERE IS A FUCKING GOOD REASON TO TELL APPLE TO GET THEIR HEAD OUT OF THEIR ASS AND STOP
At the end of the day, if morons want to continue to support a company that dodges TAX in various countries, makes unpowered hardware at high powered device prices, with a bigbrother OS let them. Screaming about it on the internet isn't going to change their minds because they're so accustomed to it. You know better, and so does various amount of people do. Majority of the time, you'll find that people who have owned iPhones for about a year or two end up switching to android anyway. Those who don't just like the brand regardless of what shit they pump out. So if morons want to spend lots of money on something that's garbage, I say sit back and laugh.
I can only sit back so long. Bitching wont solve anything, but I cannot just let people fall for it a 7th time
Sure you can. I guess if you let it affect your everyday life, then possibly you need something more important to worry about.
LET THE HATE FLOW. Nor will I with anybody who can only consider things from their personal point of view, and their own personal set of requirements. I'm glad you got all that vitriol out of your system. Every single paragraph you bashed out spoke of "performance" and "power", after I clearly explained that to most people, other factors like after-sales service and resale value are more important. But whatever, I know I'm not going to change your mind, I was never going to, I'm just putting it out there so-to-speak. Had a HTC Dream (the very first Android device), had a Galaxy Nexus, for 2 years, had a HTC One M7 for another 2, now on iPhone 6+, next phone will be who knows. Take from that what you will. Bam
Well hTC phones are not brilliant, I've owned one in the past and never understood their fandom. The flagship Chinese makes are brilliant though. Owned Meizu and now own Xiaomi. I don't stick with flagship brands locally.
On a wait list for a Jet Black 128GB iPhone 7. My bill won't change, so why not? I also think its funny that Apple will never advertise their phone as being "water proof" and only "water resistant". As someone who worked as a ACMT (Apple Computer Macintosh Technician) for 4 years, I can say people do not treat their devices well and always expect it to be covered (in warranty). Water was always a fun one since it was always "I don't know how water got in it." or "I think you put water in it". Glad I don't work there anymore.
What if you don't live in an area with an Apple store? Apple's phone and online support is laughable. There isn't a single Apple store around here, so when my buddies iWhatever decides to eat up 100GB of its storage for no good reason, I'm the one who has to fix it and explain that iOS ver 7.x.x has a major flaw. There's lots of us that get dragged into the Apple crap BECAUSE we're good with computers.
