The thing is, the target render isn't that impressive so there's no reason why he the final game can't look like that. Basically the developers were taking the piss.
Yup! Exactly. They just gave up on any spark of original ideas or soul. The game is just a shitty knockoff of Megaman which is sad because it had the potential to be so much better. -doulomb
I'm just going to give the short answer of yes. Everything around is trying to get funded by kickstarter now.
Hey, I know. I want to professionally release my Battle of the Ports series on BluRay. Maybe I should do a kick starter for that!
This, coming from you? OK... People are pissed off with Mighty Number 9 because the budget for the game has been horrendously allocated (e.g. bland and massively ripoff-y style that's a far cry from the sort of style we were first promised, trying to get spinoff shit like a cartoon off the ground before the actual game's out, cutting features like stealing abilities from normal enemies for "budget reasons" when one could reasonably expect its gangbusters Kickstarter funding to finance everything promised, etc) Inafune has had a history of shitcanning projects just because (e.g. Kaio: King of Pirates) the MN9 community has been massively mistreated, especially when Dina was around the whole Dina incident suggests that there hasn't been great care in staffing Inafune's already trying to milk people with another crowdfunded Mega Man nostalgia circlejerk (except this time he's found a way to make the character designs even more blatant and shameless) overall, Inafune's proven himself to not be as much a designer or creator as he's held up to be, and is more a businessman There are tons of valid, founded complaints. We aren't being "haters". We're people with researched opinions that happen to contradict your own blind opinions. (God forbid, right?) With crowdfunding, people have every goddamn right to be on edge about how a project turns out. Why? It's in the name. Regular folks are putting their own money into these projects, so they have a stake in it. There's a whole extra layer of accountability. Suddenly it becomes a far more significant issue when your game goes over budget despite receiving eight times your asking amount, or your documentary series is three years late yet is only a third complete and full of stolen footage, or when your game is run by someone who's exploiting nostalgia but hasn't the foggiest in what actually goes into game design.
God damn what an absolutely perfect takedown if MN9's problems. I'm glad someone out there agrees and knows about all the problems its had (mainly Inafune and Dina) -doulomb
I ignore the Dina Incident and it hasn't affected me at all. But break it down to THE GAME the actual game Mighty No 9 THE GAME and it looks awesome.
The game sucks too, sorry you're in denial, and this isn't speculation. Lots of people have played the game in its nearly complete stage of development and have found this. For example Shantae is another sidescroller that got kickstarted. It earned significantly less than MN9 and it still looks better. They were able to go with a great looking soulful style, so don't act like it was too hard for MN9 do make the game look like their concept art. Heres the link to Shantaes kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1236620800/shantae-half-genie-hero/description -doulomb
So then those who like it will like it, and those that don't fall under the pile of "It's kickstarter. It's a proposed game idea. Buyer beware". And judging by your points, the Inafune aspects were known going into it. Which begs the question, why kickstart it if you knew that stuff going into it? I didn't kickstart it, even though it piqued my interest, as I know the risks involved. If it's worth it, I would just pick it up on a Steam Sale or GOG or something, and by then, I would know exactly what I'm getting. It's not like dropping the lower game price selection gets your name in the credits, you know? It also wasn't a bait and switch like many kickstarters are.
I've only thrown money at two games: TJ&E Shenmue III Shenmue III one is kind of scummy, but whatever. I'm a bit worried about it, as I have my doubts that it will live up to what it's supposed to be, and Suzuki has even said III won't conclude the story, so if I'm throwing down money just to wait another decade+ to finally got some closure then this is a complete waste. No worries about TJ&E though, the backer rewards have already been produced and should be arriving in the next few months. I have no doubt that the game will come out and be fantastic. It's all in who you're backing and how much faith you have in them.
I still say at some point Ryo says fuck it and moves back to Japan, Changes his name to Kazama and Joins the Yakuza. You should Join Aarn and Danny, you're a game grump.
Regardless of whether you agree with how far I'm taking it, you must agree that the game is not what backers expected, and is nowhere near what should have been produced for 4 million fucking dollars (thats not even including the 2nd kickstarter and the anime one). I've even provided evidence of other kickstarter sidescrollers that earned less money and still look way better because they actually have an art style and competent developers at the helm. Lastly, its completely ridiculous to say you are just going to ignore the Dina incident. Its actually quite important, and really damaged Comcepts reputation and the faith of the fans. It also calls into question their hiring practices. But fine, lets ignore that and just focus on the game. Guess what? Dina actually worked as a designer (this explains alot about it being so soulless)! Here are 2 tweets that prove it! Look, perhaps I've been a bit of a grump, but I'm sure we can meet in the middle on this. Surely you must see all this as being a little bad right? -doulomb
I can agree that it doesn't look as pretty as the concept art, but I still wouldn't put it as far down as a bait and switch, or even something insanely less than what was expected. Sadly, that's just how the great majority of kickstarter projects are; insane hype when it starts, and then the inevitable disappointment, with a couple exceptions (like Shantae). It's the same reason why I didn't go all happy about Shenmue III, and why I didn't put any money into it. When I invest anything, I'm very cautious with the investments. That's exactly what kickstarter is; it's essentially investing in a future product, and if anyone has taken a look at business ventures, the great majority tend to be less than expected, or just cancelled outright. At least something is coming out of this. However, I want to play the game myself before comparing it to the 9th circle of hell. That's the game reviewer side of me talking, but it also would make sense for anyone who looks at this game.
I guess that makes sense, but backers have had plenty of time to come to terms with the game during alpha/beta. I'll take their word for it that its a disaster even if the "full" game isn't out yet. I guess thats the other thing too: they should have waited until after MN9 was released officially. Its predatory that they are starting a new one before the old one finishes. -doulomb
Lets be real here, NOTHING can and ever will be anywhere near as bad as Mega Man X6 when it relates to Mega Man related games.
And I'm perfectly content to wait until that releases as well. If MN9 is that bad, then I would expect there to be fewer backers on their next one.
Am I the only person who actually likes Mega Man X7? Mega Man and Bass would be fine........IF IT WAS JUST A BASS SPIN OFF GAME. Mega Man II GB I remember being ok. PC Games and Game Gear were licensed cash grabs so I don't really count them. And the Game Gear game isn't too bad it's as close to Mega Man on the Master system as we'll ever get.
