Yes, people generally do that sort of thing for a game/movie/system/whatever that is anticipated. It was done for Halo 2 and a few Star Wars movies, among countless other things. It's nothing new at all.
Im sure you would to, if it was for some overhyped PC game, where you then go in and buy all the necessarry upgrades and the game to get it to run on its highest settings for about $250.
It was also done when Power Rangers toys first came out in the US. I remember. I don't really understand the whole paying over $1,000 for an XBOX 360 system?
Spooky you saying 30 xbox360s....the local game store here asked for 1000 units and got 30........different country - same figure...
For me, for some reason, the whole camping out for something you really want seems sort of fun if youve got some people to hang around. It seems like a cool little thing you'd remember, like when I payed for my Xbox with a 100$ bill and almost 50$ of change (hahaha) but I mean hey, a big new system doesn't come out every year. Me and the girl were thinking of trying to get a 360 on launch but the stores around here pretty much were sold out immediatly, plus I don't have money falling out of my ass (not to imply anyone here craps money) to play some games that didn't really catch my attention...
Camping out is stupid, just go to walmart/target thats how i got my ds/psp and i went like a week after release at 6pm and they had plenty of them, why? because everyone goes to bestbuy/circuit city/gamestop/ebgames.
That's a nice thought, but the most ANY store has around here, aside from BB, is a meager 10 premium units. I did a drive-by this morning at 4:30 (most places had 10pm openings) and there were several dozen people lined up at every location. IF there are weekly shipments, then it may be better, but then it will just be a matter of being in the right place at the right time or you still get screwed. And yes, I did preorder, at three places (one EB, two GS) which "guaranteed" first shipment arrival. About a week ago I was told that I wouldn't be getting any of them for first shipment and one of them told me I wouldn't even be getting it this year just so that EB/GS could fill all of the online preorders (all of which were placed after mine).
This was suprising to me as well. It hasn't even sold out (on a national scale yet) right?? Don't flame me if it has, I didn't read any info one way or the other on this. A little more on topic, I don't think I would have camped out if I was getting one at launch. But going fairly early to the bigger retail places might have worked. I wasn't to thrilled by this launch, that and the fact that I'm low on funding is what stopped me from getting one. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it'll be a solid system. And I'll get one sometime. I just don't feel that excited to buy one right now.
There's 8 walmarts if you go near Sanford.. Funny story. Today at work one of the employees called one of our vendors and asked if they had any xbox 360s because they want to get one for christmas. Turns out that they have around 10,000 orders for them, but only 2,200 are coming in within the few weeks. Maybe MS should've just released the system first in the US rather than the world, because then there would more to go around in the US .
You know, I was wondering why you got banned from CAG, but I think your recent posts have answered my question.
I haven't bought a game on release in about 2 years, and I haven't played a pc game in about 6 months. Thanks for coming out. You're ugly too. Go listen to some Slipknot.
I would only line up if they had a fluffer in line giving out head pops... and I was first. Hope you guys enjoy your 360's!
Even i can't get one... *stares at a skid after skid of 360s*. I'm begining to think that this launch is going to get out of hand.
Wait until this Friday, aka Black Friday, when the official Christmas Shopping season begins. I remember last year about the fights that broke out in stores because people wanted to get the coolest toys for the kids. Stupid Soccer-mom parents.
Yeah, when everyone was waiting around for PS2 there was a story on the news about some kid getting mugged by some numbnuts and they took his PS2. The store gave him another PS2 and a game though. Alright, but it might be hard since I don't know where that CD is. Maybe I should borrow yours.
Thank god I preordered mine in September. Yesterday was pretty sinple, I walk in, pay and get out in a matter of minutes...
