Thanks for this bit of info Turranius - I did not know about being able to choose region free or not (Which is something I hoped would be implemented)
So really all that is left after CDI support has been tested is the disk swap feature - awesome :)

wtf ... why can't MNEMO set up a site to get firmware updates? I am still on the 14-10-02 one... there is no way to know if there is an update, it just sucks.

That's why i prefer the GDEMU. Both have their pros and cons.
But the worst of all is for sure the lack of communication from mnemo.

in fact I've buyed the Mnemo's one first because the GDemu was unavaible, now I always play with GDemu and Rhea and I have a second gdemu that should arrive this week.
Initially I believed that the GDROM USB host was better than gdemu, now I don't even use it anymore XD

Initially when both were released the big con with GDEmu was the lack of in game menu. Since that has been addressed, GDEmu seems to be the better option as of now. I'm hoping the rhea isn't far behind :)

I've played a few minutes wqith the new menu. Working as expected, no screen or boot issue.
One thing : at each reboot/IGR, it shows this "Loading..." screen (pretty long, i have a 128Go SD card) I thought that it did a scan of the SD card at the first time, then it didn't do it again since you insert a new card. Was I wrong ?

Are you still locked to 40 games in 01-40 style folders thought? Thats the only reason I chose USB-GDROM instead since I'm a hoarder and want all games from all regions available on the same disk.

So I'm considering ordering a USB GD-ROM but I have a few questions. Is it 100% compatible with all games? Is there a list of external HDD that are compatible with it? Is it necessary to get a resistor for the 12V line? Should I drill holes in the side of the dreamcast? (or is that for GDEMU only?) It seems there are communication problems with nmemo but there is new firmware coming right? Thanks for answering my questions and any other insight I should consider.

I am debating which one to buy now(GDemu or GDROM USB). I understand Mnemo is lack of communication but I GDROM USB supports HD or USB stick. Would you tell me why you think GDemu better .. ? just because of GDmenu ? I am so confused.. and GDemu is not even available either so that makes me tired of waiting, too.

    Thanks for the info.

So a few things that makes me stay with USB-GDROM. This is why I'm sticking with it atleast. Your opinion may differ and that's ok!
    Also answers the questions above.

1: Its a FAT32 disk. Every disk I've tried worked so far. One person I know of had a problem with a USB stick he tested with but thats it. I've so far tested 3-4 random 4-8 GB sticks (to test with during installation), 1 TB Seagate Backup Plus Portable and a 2TB Seagate Portable Drive, both powered over the USB port. No problemo.
2: Since its FAT32, there is a 2TB limit instead of 32GB for the GDemu. For someone who like to toss the latest TRURIP on it (Little over 1 TB), its great.
3: Folder order or similar does not matter. Make whatever folder structure you want.

    To answer questions.

12 volt = Yes, this is still a problem with USB-GDROM. Toss a resistor or replace the power supply with a PicoPSU (On its way here for me =)).

Drill holes = Nah. Just remember to keep the old GDRom (Without the controller card of course) in the dreamcast to not interrupt the designed airflow. The only hole you have to drill is for the external USB solution. If you do not plan to connect a big external HD to it (128GB usb stick perhaps?), then you can get the USB-GDROM version with an internal USB connector and you won't have to drill at all.
If you replace the psu with a PicoPSU, you can even get the internal version and keep the "external USB big ass HD" internally =)

Lack of communication = Yes. A bit annoying. If you talk in small words I have not had any problems though and I've ordered and talked to him multiple times.

His paypal: He used his friends paypal for a while. He now has his own, according to him.

Over 32GB cards work well on gdemu, it's just that some cheap models won't work so it is unsupported officially.

I got a 64 GB one that works well, some peoe tested 128GB cards with success too.

Also, gdemu supports shrinking gdis, reducing the 3rd track, or rebuilding the GDI so that the padded space is omitted, allowing to fit much more games on the card. Chuchu rocket is a few tens of MBs this way.

I have a 128GB SD card, working flawlessly.
And i can tell you that it's sapce enough for a huge game collection.
And mine are not converted in CDIs. If you do so, or if you rebuild them in "shrunk" GDI, i wonder if your life will be enough to play them all :D

I don't know to be honest. I know "D2" or whatever its called does not work since it wants to you switch disc mid-game, but disc switching is being worked on. That is the only game that I know not to work. Everything I've ever tossed at it worked first try, but I'm a hoarder, not a big time gamer so I have not tested enough to say for sure.

Hey Moocky, do you remember if your GD-Roms were VGA patched? That may be my issue with the screen being displayed in the wrong position, will have to replace them when I have time this weekend and test.

Have a look here, now I don't have the latest firmware so I don't know if he has fixed these games.

I tested all US & PAL games & the above are the only one sI had issues with.

I haven't done anything to account for the 12v issue with USB GDROM. Should I be concerned about the excess heat?
