Deunan said he might do another run and should let everyone know soon. So keep an eye on his blog if you want one as his order list filled up quick last time. I think he has enough demand for a second run so hopefully he decides to do it:

Has Denuan said anything about the read/write speeds of his device?

I mean, I will probably buy the fastest device of the 3...

hdd and cf are more faster than sd.
BUT: Duenan's device is best for now, as it ready to sell, and he promises it supports 100% of games and w/ CDDA.
only price is not good. and i see why someone asks hdd support, as it's boring to change sd card, or delete images to free space for next game.

The sd card on the gdemu is also not very easy to change out due to how it's mounted but I can live with it. Would have been better had the slot been vertical, but that probably would have cost more and would not be as easy to ship.

What I did was to install a Sd extender and a toggle switch. So i never have to touch the board again
P.s. The dreamcast was extremely dirty it was one I bought at a garage sale

I will try to do that. It's a fine idea.

was going to give that a try. Deunan said that you should not use an extension cable and if you insist on doing it, make sure its short. What length is the extension you are using and where did you purchase it from? The shortest I can seem to find on ebay is 48cm. I had ordered one of those last week to try it to see if it was short enough to work.

haven't really left mine on that long since getting it and did not notice it getting really hot. I will throw crazy taxi on and let it run for a bit and see if mine does the same thing.

Adding extra cooling to the Dreamcast is very easy, especially with all the extra room there'll be so shouldn't be a problem

ive had mine on running the crazy taxi demo for about an hour and it doesn't seem too hot. left side of outer top case is 32C and right side is 30C. the gdemu is 36C and the power supply is 51C. I have the lid still screwed on still so i am shooting the laser at the clear plastic protective cover of the power supply so that may be messing up the reading a bit. It doesn't seem like its overheating though. I did notice in that linked thread in his last picture his power supply is only about 10 deg lower with the GDROM installed. So it may not be a big deal.

    Edit:
I popped the lid off and one of the caps on the power supply was reading about 60c. Took me a few minutes to get a screw driver and get it off so it probably was about 68 or so when it was running.

Can you make the same test with the GDROM drive and see if the cap is cooler?

I won't have time to test until a couple of days from now, but I can do some more. It will not be the same dreamcast though as my gdemu can't come back out easily. I modded mine with the suggested tunnel and need to test that also. I used the plastic from between a fat ps2's power supply and case (the ps2 was broken). Haven't had a chance to test it either yet. It again doesn't look too pretty as I glued the plastic parts down but hopefully it works. Probably will just take temps with the lid on though as it was a pain this time putting it back together.

I read it and saw about some of your problems.

GD-EMU is a GD-ROM drive replacement and it does only that. Thus, it will play any ISO that would have played with the GD-ROM drive. So, if your console is not modded, it only will play discs from your region while if your console is modded, it will play discs from any regions.

What I did with mine (a Sakura Taisen one) was putting a region-free BIOS, which happened to also give me access to MIL-CD discs. Then, only discs I am not able to play are the ones that are incompatible with VGA (I have internal VGA in the console long with integrated scanlines). But they load and send me a message stating they are not able to run in VGA mode, the same that would have done with the original disc (and that is fixed by using a non-VGA cable).

So, just mod your DC with region free and download the right GDI images, and you'll be fine.

    - WIN-CE games supported.
    - CD disc in drive (or cd images) supported.
    - speed increased
    - "ATA" commands support, for detecting and launching games by DremShell. it can acts in both way "under DS like IDE device" and "DS selects game, then resets and DCIO acts as gd-drive. (SWAT made support of dcio in RC2)

still no cdda. dont know how is it important. better to make it. or most ppl thinks it's one of the major disadvantage)))

pcb's of G1-IDE are in the way. little problem w/ parts. thanks to Mario , he tryed help me. but he is far from me. didn't decide yet where to get them. sad thing - Ozone lost his ideas or wishes to continue work about gd-emu devices.

    - speed increased: it's closer to bus speed, for example bus speed 16.6mb/s , dcio ready to send data about ~8..12mb/s , or it looks like a little pause between one and next sector's data. especially, after i made "DOUBLE-BUFFER" method, one buffer fills data, another gives to DC, then it changes role.

BUT: code/program of game is not always read data by one big request. it devide data by parts. so it doesnt matter in some cases how fast gd-drive is. it should send current part at least within particular period.
