Ran Crazy Taxi on 2 Dreamcasts for an hour at the same time, one with GDROM and one with GDEMU (GDEMU has a "fence" built out of plastic around it). Popped the lids off right after turning the power off. Measured the temp of the big cap at the back of the power supply board as it seemed to be the warmest point. GDROM dreamcast was 58.1C and GDEMU dreamcast was 62.8. Still a bit warmer but the fence it seems to have helped. Here is a pic of my fence (I know it looks like crap with the glue). Also it is not perfectly formed, but im leaving it as is. Fence was built from some power supply protective plastic from a broken PS2.

Don't you have clear plastic fences ? I'm sure I do have them on my DC.

there is a clear plastic piece for the power supply that is pushed up against the black plastic piece that i put in.

edit so as to not double post:
my sd card extension that ordered arrived today from china. I got this one as it seemed to be the shortest cable i could find on ebay. Originally tried to mount it with the case on the inside of the lid, but it was still not really easy to get the card in and out. Decided to pull the board out and install it above the modem like ive seen in some of the dreamshell sd card installs. Seems to work fine with the 48cm cable. I know I could shorten it, but would probably end up ruining the cable.

Which games require CDDA support for the full experience, and is there a workaround for your device cybdyn? Such as reformatting the image or adding an MP3 file? I would be happy with a workaround rather than you having to dev for something your not interested in, delaying the product to market. BTW I think its awesome that your device will use a menu instead of a sd swap or button presses.

games w/ CDDA work too, i just used simple TOC w/o cdda track, or do nothing if DC request play som track.
i dont know - even if we can re-format CDDA to mp3 , how we play it?? )))
actually, i'll maybe make support of CDDA, it's a question of image format.

i know, but i use ISO format, it's one big file. GDI is a set of files(of tracks), in this case better use "folder" method for each game, about CDI i know less, does it use same - set of files (of track)?

also, i dont know if i will release dcio, as i told before - it's good as prototype, for develpment such devices)))
for release it's complex device: costly parts, current version is SD only. i tried usb-host, but then i make pause, as i start think: we need use set of additional devices like usb-sata/ide, PSU for hdd, that makes less sence in such device. so my hopes w/ more simple device like g1-ide.

If you go that route with the G1-IDE will it be able to play games with CDDA? or is it dependent on the software loading the Game Image? If it's software like Dreamshell won't it have the same issues it does now with alot of compatibility issues?

So, basically, you are taking the GD-EMU road.

I thought that the plan was to replace the gdrom, because gdrom will die one day

I mean, G1-IDE (advanced) , i'm about my version. dont worry it's replacement of gd-drom drive. of course w/ cdda support.
just another version, more simply, cheaper.

Can you compare the DCIO and the G1-IDE? what is the difference? estimate development, cost, size and any details about your G1-IDE (advanced) and of course current progress :D

edit: ok i see this 2 pics from the old post :)

The parts shipped a few days ago and should arrive soon, then I'll send those and the GD-ROM connectors to you, which should take about a week.

New to the forum - so hello all :)
Been watching this thread for a while now ever since my son was telling me about it - like to say a big thanks to the guys developing for our beloved Dreamcast, and also a big thanks to the modders for showing us your mods and ideas :)

As always I was late to the party - so not even on a backup order list for gdemu yet - but his order page is now a homepage lol, so hopefully I will get on the list at some point.

Like many of you I already have the region free bios mod and internal vga mod done - and of course after getting hold of a gdemu, I will want to externally mount the SD slot and have a remote for the select button.
I know it's too late for you mickcris - but I found this on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SD-MICROS...ory_Card_Readers_Adapters&hash=item258f7a1412 - maybe others can benefit from this though :)
Anyway after sending him a quick message wondering if he did a smaller cable say 5" - he said no problem and could make one :)
oh btw mickcris - thanks for your 'fence' image in regards to cooling (I was thinking of a 40x40x10mm 12v fan to direct airflow - but your results are good and if I seal the lid then no air will come through there so hopefully making the fence even better)

Anyway - main reason for my post lol - is I want to use a remote switch for the gdemu. I was talking to the guy who makes these: http://rfpcremote.com and he was saying that his switch did not need to be on a 5VSB line - and would work fine on a +5V line when the unit was powered up. I like the idea of a remote switch as I could then use the audio menu as a selection menu - and even if in the future new firmware is included with a menu - this would still reset the console remotely so not a waste.

So my question for far more technically minded people is: If I soldered this to the +5V and GND on the power pins - would I be taking power away from a necessary part of the system?

one thought is it possible to make an emulator that only loads the boot-loader of dreamshell and then load dreamsheel from hdd will this cost less?

if you mean gd-drive "emulator" to load only boot-loader? that's my idea of g1-ide-adv. of course it's cheaper.

another way is bios-mod and sd-mod.
or load DS from cd-r by gd-drive.
    or you mean something else?

Yes that's what i mean. Emu with small memory to load bootloader only olso the next thing is to put the sata to ide adapter on the same board.

Have to say I am not thoroughly lost. Now cybdyn is only making an IDE adapter?

PS: The Micro/SD Adapter is neat, but it's not good enough for GD-EMU because you're still forced to solder in some type of PCB to be able to switch through the games. Still not ready for prime time.
