it's the quirkyness of the concept. and over the top gameplay. Some of us don't play video games for cut scenes and story lines. We play them to escape and have fun.
You said it. I just want a really whacky no brainer button masher thats fun. We don't get many of those these days. Also, this is way beyond Onechanbara. The last one of those looks so dated before it even hit the shelf. Lollipop on the other hand looks fresh, colourful and just complete nuts. That's why I'm interested in it. Yakumo
When is this game released in the west? It should be out this Friday in Japan. Normally we get 360 stuff last though.
Its seems to play quite simple press buttons hack zombies to death, repeat run around, cutesy graphics, cussing, decaptation, nothign too engaging so far from what Ive played, which is what I like, nothing overly complex, just nice arcade style fun
Bummer, last again. I remember a time when games would come out in Japan half a year before the rest of the world. That was also a time when 99% of US made games were total shit. How times have changed. Pretty much all the best games are western developed these days. That's no bad thing of course. I just miss the crazy Japanese style games. I guess that's why I'm so looking forward to this one. I just hope I can complete Batman Arkham City in time before Lollipop Chainsaw arrives. Yakumo
Well Phantom Breaker keeps getting delayed and that was out a year ago. The West only just a few weeks ago got Akai Katana... it still happens
Yeah, I made a thread a few months back about lusting for the old days of Japan seeming like a mecca for gaming because of their "early" releases.
It applies to the three main interests in men :hot chicks , destruction , fighting. As far as I'm concerned this is the perfect game.
How peculiar, I guess I'm in the minority here. I still side with the ideal that it's because the game is very uh odd. Not just anywhere can you find a chainsaw wielding cheerleader hacking and slashing through zombie hordes with her bodily-challenged boyfriend. lol I suppose I can understand how the previous assumptions would be made though, as they do seem to be pretty basic motivators.
It's just a none brainer arcade action male orientated slasher. That alone is enough to gain interest. These days most games require a lot of skill,or thinking, following targets, using maps and so on. This is fine and makes for great gaming when done right but every now and then a none brainer button basher is needed to break the trend. This will be my first game of this type since err....... Fist of the NorthStar on the 360. Yakumo
A similar game to Lollipop Chainsaw instead you have a sword... Anyone played this? It looks similar from the screenshots though. I also can't remember how I found out about it. For those who don't understand why Lollipop Chainsaw is popular is for one, it's heavily advertised, they use a very attractive cosplayer for their shows as well. I actually like female characters as the main character so I can say I love (Mirror's Edge, Tomb Raider etc etc). I wouldn't be surprised if we start to see more main female characters if Lollipop sells extremely well. In short: What Kevin said.
So the impression I'm getting from you guys is that this is pretty much the kind of game to play after you come home after a long day of work/school and want to play something fun, but requires little to no concentration or commitment. Reminds me of how years ago I used to come home from school and just fuck around in GTA and do random shit. Not really interested in this game, but I guess I can see the appeal. At least it's a new IP; we can always use more of those. I think I heard about it. If I'm not mistaken, it sucks ass. Could be wrong though, so don't quote me on that. No, please god, no. I have absolutely nothing against female protagonists, but if we start getting a shitload of games staring half naked broads like the one in this game, I think it'll reflected badly on gaming as a whole. Personally, I want female protagonists that look stylish, have an likable personality, and are treated (by the creators) like human beings, not degrading, skanky looking women who have no personality (or a terrible one) and are just there for eye candy. Same goes for men. Nothing wrong with a little eye candy, but when developers go overboard, it becomes laughable and embarrassing for me to call myself a gamer. If more developers become interested in staring female protagonists, then great! I just hope this game isn't the source of the influence.
Yep, you've hit the nail right on the head there. As for the last Onechanbara 360 game, well as I mentioned before, that game looks turd graphically and plays far more basic than Lollipop Chainsaw. I was considering in buying that when it came out but after a play test it felt really dated. In fact it felt just like the Wii and PS2 games. Yakumo
I have to say, I'm a little bit of a sucker for a somewhat cute-ish styling and gore so I think I'll enjoy the game when it eventually gets here after it's released in Japan. Lately, the other ones of a similar type I've played are Dead Rising 2 & Off the Record on my PS3 so it'll be a nice change to play as a female character. Personally, I like Juliet's sisters styles and will most likely be using the alternative costumes for Juliet because I don't really like her cheerleading gear and prefer a character like Cordelia (the one with the rifle). But then again, I suppose I'm a bit amused by female characters with bad tempers like say, Kaine out of NieR. The banter back and forth was amusing to me. Probably because I have a horrible temper myself so... Though at the very least, I can say that Juliet is still wearing some clothes in contrast to the Onechanbara games which also kinda looked a bit iffy. I mean, I'm don't just look at the graphics for a game but it just didn't look like a decent amount of fun or really appeal to me. On top of the silly random bikini costume too. I don't know, maybe I've just become used to seeing my gender being over-sexualized in entertainment in general. *Shrugs* Either way, I'm still going to have a bit of fun with the game as the games' I had looked forward to this year were sorely disappointing even when I hadn't set up any high expectations too.
Actually, Lollipop Chainsaw seems to be the only "half-naked" main character I've seen in a while, probably because of all this "body image" bullshit. Really though I would rather play as a female character than some huge dude. You are right when it comes to skanky characters but only cause they're created by males, I would struggle to not make a female character unattractive. Even in Anime or movies the girl that's in the spotlight is usually the most attractive one of the group. Is that possibly a selling point? From the trailer of the game Juliet seems like a bitchy school girl with a foul mouth, not sure how well used this is, but hopefully we see this used in the right places.
