First post! I'd also prefer buying a copy instead of downloading and burning it once it is available to the public.

It'll probably be about 50 if he does decide to sell the extras, as there wouldn't be a point to sell them for what he paid for them, because then there wouldn't be any profit.

 

Pressing discs does not cost $50 per disc. It sounds like you are implying it would need to be $50 else its not profit, which is incorrect.

The reason he is out of pocket is just due to volume, rather than cost per disc.

50*500 is 25,000 how is that loosing money?

 

^Why do you think there is such a big demand that all 500 discs will sell at $50? Aside from that, what's to say that they will all sell within a few weeks or months instead of half or more of them lying around for awhile as the dollar decreases in value ($50 today tends to be worth less than $50 in the future, see inflation). Do we even have 50 active members who are interested in Dreamcast games at this forum?

I think there will be enough demand to recoup a good chunk (or maybe a little more) of the investment for getting the discs pressed and for the money put up to buy the GDr, but outright assuming Assembler is going to make a cool $25,000 just because he has pressed 500 discs is unrealistic.

 

i dont know when giest force was bought here it was all over the gaming news sites i think i even saw it on kotaku

as soon as the community gets wind that the disks are on sale
this forum will be flooded with sign ups and the 500 cops will be sold out in less then 2 weeks

the buy goal was reached in less then a week and pre orders were sold out in about 2 weeks

even if sold for 10 each that still a tidy profit of almost 5 grand

i say of the remaining non-contibuter discs i doubt it will be taht quick. (400 spares) there will be no way they sell out of those discs in 2 weeks as you claim. if he does do the high 50 dollar price point.

i dont know as soon as the disk go on sale there will be a story about it on kotaku they get thousands of views a day

gamester81 will be doing a review on the disk too he gets thousands of youtube views

hell this might even hit PSX-scene they have thousands of active users

im fairly confidant in 2 weeks or less the disk will be sold out

Hey guys, please don't try to throw my 50 dollar estimate out of proportion, haha. I was going guessing given the fact that the people who donated 50 or more are to receive a pressed copy of the game.

It could be lower, who knows; I was just assuming that he'd set a similar price out of fairness to the people who had already donated, but given the mentality of the community here, I doubt many would care if he did sell them for a lower price.

I'm just happy we have the game dumped and there's been progress made, even in this hectic economy, guy's like ASSEMbler still do a lot for people, I honestly don't see how he keeps up with everything.

 

donating was to get the original disc. the pressed copy was simply a bonus for helping.

Angel, I know there are probrabaly at least 100,000 people that play on Dreamcast all the time. Maybe more or less. 10 million were produced, and I see people active at sites all over the net. Not to mention all the leachers and collerctors that never post.

Anyway, I respect your attitude, I really do, but who is to say all 500 will be sold that soon? Maybe in a years time they will be sold, but then he has to go to all the trouble to post them on Ebay and send each one out. A shitload of work.

I say you put them up on Ebay, and make damn sure they are all affordable, and people will buy them.

Hell, its a new Dreamcast game on a professionally pressed disc. People will buy it for collecting at least.

I know I will buy a few myself, granted they are affordable.

 

If we're taking and making wagers, a tenner says within 2 weeks of the extra copies being sold it'll be on every multi-format gaming torrent site you can think of, complete with hi-res scans of the disc, covers and obi etc, just like every other DC release from the last 10 years.

Any takers on that bet?

 

The scans no matter how high the resolution won't be as good as mine Since I made them in the first place.
