one important notice: mega everdrive and everdrive md is not same thing, it is two completly different cart. also, mega everdrive is not everdrive md replacement. everdrive md is cost effective solution, mega everdrive is a ultimate hi-end solution which will be cost a lot (around 150usd). everdrive md will be available and supported even after mega ed release well, mega ed in approach, so probably time to make some thread about new ultimate solution for genesis/megadrive. mega ed is not finished yet, so i can't say exactly what will be implemented or will not, but here is list of features which is planned, some of them already implemented: already implemented: 0)instant loading (1-2 sec) 1)large rom suppport - up to 10 mbyte 2)snapshot saves, like on emulator. and regular saves, of course 2x)firmware update without jtag. enough to copy new OS into SD card to get new firmware 3)advanced sms support. codemasters and korean mappers 4)ram cart for mega cd 5)dual sd slot, one internal micro sd and external standard SD 6)fast usb for development, and may be for netplay 7)return to menu by reset button and below is features which not implemented yet, and may be some of them will not be implemented never: 8)fm sound for sms 9) netplay (mabe i will make a net patches for some games) 10) seriall eeprom saves 11) nes emulation 12) may be something else, what is forgotten Cyclone II FPGA, and 16mbyte of sdram provide a lot of hardware resources, so here is almost unlimited field for phantasy snapshot saves demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkXEr-uV9KE large rom demo movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8gjfzmt5AU prototype photo
I'm so excited for this. Your list of currently implemented features is exactly what I want. Count me in for one in the first batch
Is it difficult to implement serial eeprom saves? NES emulation and fm sound is dispensable for me, but serial eeprom saves are not. It would be the ultimate solution with that feature because every rom works then and no hack has to be used.
Serial EEPROM saving is likely the easiest of the 3 you mentioned and probably the most likely. The Mega ED cart is looking cool. Definitely like the Mega CD RAM cart function.
eeprom already done, but does not work by some reasons i bought few original carts with eeprom and waiting for them, may be they may give some hint
Dont know if this has been brought up but any chance of a Favourites list? iv found so meny cool imports/homebrew games that half of the time i forget what there called half the time so i need to right down the titles ect so any way i could just click said game as a FAV would be very welcome
KRIKzz, all new features are fantastic IMO! I'm psyched too! NES emulation?! God! Any chance of Atari 2600 emulation? Mega Drive uses the same plug for controllers and I think it would be awesome to play A2600 games on it using Atari pads (and dozens of other A2600 controllers), just like we do with SMS games. All those classics: Pitfall, Enduro, Pole Position, Atlantis, Asteroids... I know that newer consoles have emulators for that, but it would be so much more practical with Mega Everdrive and also to be able to use the original controllers with no need of adapters would be really neat!
 I never thought I'd see this for the Mega Drive/Genesis. That and the snapshot function are very impressive.
