Stoneage's intent was to comment on the bigger picture. Business reasons behind hardware answers, are useful for other readers. Since this is a public board many people we don't see browse here.
This is not the kind of forum to come and cause shenanigans, the best is ignore that few post and continue with the topic (maybe a moderator should erase and warning the user(s) involved).
Krikzz, do you know which hardware part of the 32x will stop sms games from loading? Can this be bypassed by any hardware modification?
sms mode use B30, B9, B10, B11 signals, 32x locks all or maybe some of them. i think that possible to mod 32x to fix it
thats the only killer for me as at the mo i play all my SMS games on my dreamcast (via sd card) only because iv got a 32x hooked up to my mark 1 MD so its a nightmare swopping all the cables around but if its a simple mod then i may look into it
It's not a simple mod AFAIK. The SMS mode pin is just passed through the 32X, however some other important signals go through 32X's own logic... And 32X is not easy to mod IMO. Maybe an adapter between Genesis and 32X (like a bridge with a SMS cart slot on the back using a switch "pass through/SMS mode") would be a better idea. IDK... If you took one of those Honey Bee/whatever-brand pass through carts (used to remove the physical cart lock of Japanese Mega Drives) and combine with a Master System Converter II you would be very close to solve your problem. I have no idea how difficult it would be to make an extension of the pass through cart lines to the SMS converter II and use a switch on it but it's the easiest solution that I can figure out.
My Mega EverDrive arrived this morning! Will fire it up tonight and let you know how it goes. Cheers Krikzz!
Go mine today as well, so I figured i'd go register here on the forums =) Overclocked my MegaDrive last night using the internal clock on pin 15 and 19, had some sound issues with Phelios so im gonna try to get hold of an Oscillator of 10 or 12 MHz to see if that helps. Ill let you guys know how the Mega EverDrive runs on 13.4 MHz. Also, thank you KRIKzz! You rule! <3
KRIKzz, when running the Mega EverDrive, I get a loud buzzing through the TV speakers, but not when running a proper cart. It doesn't happen on my original EverDrive either. The buzzing is actually through the speakers, so you can't turn the volume up to overcome the noise. It makes the games unplayable. I'm using OS v2. Anyone else get this?
sound on my system is completely same as with edmd or original cart. mega ed eat a lot of power, so you need a good power supply adapter, especially if you use early system like "high definition graphics"
I have no sound issue with my Mega Drive, got PAL Model 1 without "High definition graphics" think its a V6 motherboard. The power supply im using gets very hot, but its not the original Mega Drive PSU, its the one from Master System II, and its only rated 0,5A at 10V. Im waiting for a "High deifinition graphics" model 1 Mega Drive and it comes with the original PSU, ill write here when ive tested it so you can see what results i get compared to the PSU im using now.
I'm running it on a High Def graphics Jap Mega Drive (soft/reset BIOS mod), with a Jap 32X and a UK Mega CD (bios switched) attached. The power adapter is the same one I've always used, but not a Sega official one. I think I have a spare Sega power supply, will see if I can dig that out today and try it.
high definition grafix with mega-ed need 1.2A-10v. I have an advanced PSU with current regulation, and i can hear terrible noice in case if i sent max current less than 1A
