So it turns out that I've won Photo of the Day on August 1st, 2nd, and today, the 5th, on the local news website, recordonline.com . I've linked them all on my Facebook page if anyone wants to take a look / give me a like I'll need your help at the end of the month to get Photo of the Month, so expect to hear back from me soon! https://www.facebook.com/andrewbormanphotography
Always wanted to photo stars, but I live in the part of the world with perhaps the highest levels of photopollution on the planet.
I camped on Lake Ontario to be able to get the great pictures. At home, I can still see the faint outline of the Milky Way when it is the New Moon phase, and that's being about an hour from NYC, and close to other smaller cities, though Im sure its brighter in/around Tokyo
You ever seen one of those night photos of the Earth? Tokyo is fucking crazy... and I live pretty much right in the middle of it. I can cycle to Shinjuku in about 10 minutes. No kidding, I can usually see the moon, the other planets when they're in our visible sky, and the UFOs. That's about it. EDIT: The smog doesn't help.

Beautiful @ karsten. I took some photos today, the first ones in a long time. I haven't got a good lens, only the one that came with the kit, so don't except too much fancy stuff. I just tried to get the best result despite being limited to the little gear that I own. Those photos have all been taken on the campus of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
Thank you guys, I have been trying to buy a decent lens since 2009. But you know how it is... obscure games you'll never play are always more important. Maybe now that I don't have access to my stuff I will finally make this happen. @karsten It's an EOS 450D, but I changed the colors a little on some of the photos.
i have a 350d. if you search for a zoom i suggest you take the cheap sigma 70-300 incredible lens quality and anti-reflection coating. also a very good macro-like option (around 0,5 macro from about 1 mt of distance, check my older pics like those of flowers or the lizard). if you want extra details i'll be happy to give you them. i rented the lense to a friend that had the canon 70-200mm and 2 weeks later he sold it on ebey and bought the same lense as me
I can 2nd that. I have a Nikon D3100 and bought the same lens for the time in spent in the US this year and I dont regret buying it, I paid like 65 € for the lens and a UV Filter (barely ever used, originally bought 2 months before I bought it) especially the macro mode sweetened the deal for me, as I took lots of pics of Hummingbrids this time (I should show some here )
What's the maximum aperture on the Tamrom? I've heard it's a great lense, but I've become reliant on 2.8 aperture. I find myself in too many dark places I'm afraid.
