:noooo: come on,i cant imagine metal without the thrash part! No overkill,anthrax,death angel,sodom,destruction,kreator,slayer,sepultura.... life would be sooo boring!:lol:
Well, I do know how to pronounce the "th" sound, but seriously. I have called it Trash metal for as long as I remember, heck alot are still calling it trash metal (even on TV) . Maybe it is because we feel it is trash , more than thrash. Well that is a matter of taste. And well I think it is trash. At least Metallica has evolved away from the trash. But I haven´t really been fond of them after "Metallica". Except for the odd bootlegs and their live album they released an arseload of years ago. But seriously any metal song needs a real melody and not some maniac insane speed guitar sound churned through the bloody fingernails.
Buying tickets on weds for Iron Maiden at Twickenham, seeing them for the 6th time I'm mostly into old school classic metal, although I was at a gig at the weekend with Arch Enemy (good), Dragonforce (Great), Trivium (meh) and Machine Head (Good). I love dragonforce, nice cheesy power metal, and you should all check them out! Oh, and Wolverine: Slayer are freaking awesome. Reign in Blood and Seasons in the abyss should be in every metallers collection
Am I (and my bro) the only ones who think that Evil in a Closet sounds a hell of a lot like Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath (or the Pantera cover)?
I thought Soundtrack to your Escape was a horrible album, save for a few songs. Come Clarity wasn't bad, but it's not the same as ye olde In Flames.
D R A G O N F O R C E :drool::drool: They're pretty cool. Pretty much the only band I respect anymore. :lol:
If you want some outside the box extreme music that will provoke your definition of music and art, go check out Psyopus, converge and the dillinger escape plan. You will most certainly hate it for sure, and that's why you need to listen to it, if you know what i mean.
dillinger escape plan are horrible there as bad as underoath but not quite as bad as my chemical romance somewhere in between still though horrible
Difference here is, DEP can actually play. You might not like their music, but damn is it technical. And please don't get started on "feel vs. technicality", I've heard it all.
yeh i agree they are good musicians but the music they play isnt in my opinion then again technicality isnt really my best subject in music. Also people who tag them as harcore are wrong i think that could be one of the reasons why i dont like them some off the fans are brainless sheep.
I appreciate the evolution of In Flames and can appreciate certain aspects of all their albums, however I do agree - it's not the same as their old stuff. Seems that certain melodic elements (riffage) are not as prominent, yet more peronal lyrics, themes, and *singing* are. Still my favorite band of all time..I respect Jesper so much for his song writing ability...not really technical/virtuoso, but amazing melodies.
Converge has to be one of the best metalcore bands out there. One of the innovators of the genre and as for my metal listening habits. I have something from every genre of metal.
Anders should never have started singing. He is a death metal vocalist, and he should have stayed one. Their lyrics also suck now... Whatever happened to writing abstract lyrics about crazy shit like a post-apocalyptic Earth? Jesper is such an amazing guitarist, though, you're absolutely right. In Flames is what got me into metal; the guitar melodies had me hooked from the get-go. Is that you in that picture? They always seemed to be a cool group of guys. (Edit: Why are Anders and Daniel on the outskirts? Maybe they are shy Björn looks drunk :lol: ) As far as Converge; I really like "Thaw" on Jane Doe, but nothing else really has me hooked. They're talented, no doubt about that; maybe they're just lacking melody, which is something I usually have to have in a song.
How could I forget this band? If anyone of you are into prog metal, you definitely have to listen Circus Maximus. It's a relatively new band (2005) from Norway, and it looks like they will be something big. Their two albums The 1st Chapter (2005) and Isolate (2007) are great, even reaching the quality of bands like Symphony X and Dream Theater. My personal choice: The 1st Chapter and its song Glory Of The Empire.
Haha I don't mind the singing, but that is a true statement. I presume that Anders felt the need to write about personal issues, especially after his side project Passenger. By my ear, it seems that Reroute to Remain marked a change in their sound that inevitably was heard in Sountrack to Your Escape. Yeah thats me in the picture May 2006 when they came to Colorado Springs - had them sign my main rig at the time (*real* ESP M-1 Deluxe). They are incredibly down to earth..yes they are somewhat shy. Funny you say Bjorn looks drunk, they were all killing a case of Coors lol. Happiest day of my life...went out to smoke and Jesper was sitting out there. He says to me, "That's a nice guitar."...I almost sh*t my pants...my idol complimenting my guitar. Then we talked guitars for awhile and he informed me of his Signature Series ESP which inevitably was released earlier this year. :thumbsup: AGREED :thumbsup:
Ten Thousand Fists has to be one of the best albums of 2005 in my opinion. Not a track that isn't pure awesomeness :nod:.
hmmm Jesper and Anders, those names sounds so Scandinavian/north German in their names. Is there any connection ?
