I love the Absence!...have both their cd's. They take metal/thrash back to purity.

BTW - my name is in their latest album in the fans section

IM, JP and BS...all a man needs musically. All British too (by and large) and leading the way as usual. Anything/everything else is pale (read shite) imitation. FACT!

if you want interesting extreme death metal (and i say interesting because i find most of the so called ''extreme'' death metal band to be pretty boring), check out Defeated Sanity. Their 2007 ablum, pslams of the moribund (or whatever it's called) is the most interesting and brutal extreme metal to come in years, making something quite actual without burning the roots. Their new writtings for the upcoming album seems a bit less technical, but it seems quite benifical for the energy that emanes from their pure brutality.

I like(d) The Absence, but one of their songs sounds almost exactly like "The Philosopher" by Death. I'd say which one but I can't really go and look for it right now.

Other than the whole 'maybe plagiarism' thing I like their stuff. It's pretty close to old school In Flames which is something a lot of people would think we need more of (and a lot more people that think the opposite ;)).

The song I was referring to is "Necropolis." Compare that to "The Philosopher" and tell me the beginning isn't at least similar.

Dragonforce is incredibly cheesy. They're talented, but I really can't stand to listen to the singer or the ridiculous fantasy lyrics.

    Sorry Dragonforce fans :p

I got that damn song stuck in my head because of my Guitar Hero playing friends. There alright in small doses, but yes, cheesy stuff, but at least it's funny!

They're just fools who only play for apperances. Just show off wankers with no soul and one hell of a narrow, cheesy ''artistic ''vision''. And the worse is that everyone who understand music enough know their stuff isn't even close to be real technical, and that's the only thing they are suposed to be known for.

You and me really aren't getting on musically recently are we
Whilst I appreciate dragonforce are mighty cheesy, mainly in their lyrics, you need to go to one of their gigs to truly appreciate what awesome musicians they are. And to see Vadim's keyboard solos!

You don't get it mate; they suck! ;)

Seriously though, their music is souless show off wankery, and you can't change my mind on this. I heard enough of them to not hear them ever again.

I do think they know how to play there instruments, and they sound like they'd be fun to see live, but I couldn't listen to them a lot. One thing that does bug me is my friends act like there the best band on earth.

Maybe this is another reason I don't like Dragonforce. Every Dragonforce fan I've ever met (not saying they're all like this) has been very preachy about how awesome the band supposedly is. I can respect different musical tastes, but hearing about how X band that I listen to isn't as "technical" as Dragonforce (which is horseshit) gets pretty annoying.

To be honest, though, I don't like power metal anyway, so that probably has a huge part in all of this. I liked Stratovarius for awhile, but even that begins to grate on my ears after awhile.

Well, about Dragonforce I don't agree with anyone of you. I like the band because of the great studio work, but I don't think they are one of the best power metal bands around. I also think that even if they don't play live as good as they do in the studio (I watched some live songs and got really dissapointed) is because they're making stuff that they can't play later (in a studio it's a lot easier). Anyway the results of the studio work are great and they express what the band wants to say, so I think that Dragonforce deserves credit for it in some way.
I have to say too that they're improving their live performance, so they have everything to become into something really big if they keep going on.

The technical point is rubbish - I don't listen to music because its technical (If I did I'd listen to a lot more of spiral architect!) but just because I like it. Mates like that are always annoying, I remember being told that the drums in iron maiden weren't as fast as in someone elses, so I should be listening to the other band more...right..
Personally, I don't particularly like any metal I can't make out the lyrics in, and I do lean toward cheesy stuff quite often (Listening to Lordi singing "Who's Your Daddy" right now), and dragonforce fit right into that. I can't really put my finger onto what I like about them, but it obviously works as I've paid good money to see them a few times as well as listening to them tons.

I should rephrase - technical music does something for my ears. I listen to a lot of technical metal (and in fact will not listen to metal unless it's all over the place with the crazy time signatures).

This does not make technical music good, though. I listen to plenty of "normal" music. I was blasting Death Cab for Cutie in my car not too long ago.

Basically, different strokes for different folks. I don't make fun of anyone else's music tastes unless they listen to something that likely makes you dumber while you listen to it (e.g. Insane Clown Posse). God knows my taste in music is strange enough; it would be kind of hypocritical to step on what someone else may like.

Ethereal - Fear of the Dark (cover)

I am normally, not at all into death, doom , or black metal. But this cover in this kind of version is quite cool and awesome :) but Iron Maidens version is the best, without a doubt. Since the album was the first I heard with them, and I could very big similarities between Iron Maiden fan and Manowar, and untill now I have never met an Iron Maiden who really Manowar, but I like both bands. And then there is Majesty the German true metal band, where you can hear their inspiration from both Iron Maiden and Manowar and other true metal bands. And sometimes I go for a treasure hunt when it comes to covers of songs of artists like Iron Maiden and other styles plus groups and genres etc. on youtube, since in between a load of crappy covers, there are at times real gems to pick out.
