Having worked in the video game industry in the past I can tell you that Ubisoft has an army of lawyers and copyright infringement is something they take very seriously.

Yeah, Ubisoft has like the equivalent to the Great Wall of China, with lawyers every 10 meters instead of guards on both sides.

In all seriousness, They still have their 30 years anniversary thing going on with free games, maybe...if Ancel can dump the rom and convince some executives...

I don't really care if they release it on a new system, but I would really love to play it on a Snes one day

Awesome find! Glad he shared it. Sometimes it's hard to distribute things like this that are tied to a big studio like Ubisoft because it raises legal questions that they have to care about because of their size.

Way to go getting me all excited... You sound like he shared the ROM (which, spoiler alert, he didn't (unless I'm missing something?)). I assume you mean "glad he shared the info about the cart still existing & working").

I just remembered last night that Ubi Soft included a demo of the unreleased sidescrolling version of Rayman 2 as a bonus for the PSX port of the final 3D iteration of that game. I'd hope that's a good sign that they'd share again like that.

Ha, sorry for the confusion, rso. I meant sharing the photos of his discovery.

    ctrl+c / ctrl+v:
This prototype has been found by Rayman co-creator Frédéric Houde who worked on it alongside with Michel Ancel. According to Mr Houde, they put a few other demos on cartridge but he doesn’t know if he still has them (these cartridges may have been reused for other projects).
The cartridge was labeled “RAYDEM” and he didn’t remember which game it was so he asked someone who still has an SNES at home to take a look at it.
    (Spoiler: RAYDEM means RAYman DEMo)

Only one level is playable / available in this demo (the one with the blue background) and there aren’t any enemies. A video should be available very soon.
The prototype runs on a stock SNES, not on SNES CD. From what I’ve read, Michel Ancel pitched Rayman to Ubisoft as an SNES CD game because he and his team had already planned too many levels and they thought the game wouldn’t fit into a cartridge. They worked on the Jaguar version after the SNES CD was shelved.

    It could've been a 64M ExHIROM game with SDD-1 chip :)

I would love to see a video or even better a dump so we can experience it our selves.

Wow, that "Fight the Virus" tag got redesigned and is still present on the final game!
It looks amazing. And according to Ancel there's more to be found?
Oh my, imagine if he finds the build shown on that Pix'n Love magazine...

I like how he refers to it as electronic archeology. Hopefully that's a good sign he knows stuff like this needs to be archived properly. And shared..... :)

NO WAY! Credit to Omar and Ancel.
So I guess Omar bought the prototype or got it dumped in exchange for the file.
Let's hope their asses don't get sued...

Hope more prototypes are revealed. A version with more interactive objects and maybe sound, but still in this cancelled setting would be really cool! I like the idea of Rayman being this worker within a huge computer.
