I have a question in my mind. I want to know which are the most expensive games ever sold in auction, hand to hand or whatever.

I've searched a lot in internet, and a lot of non really pro sites tell that 1990 Nintendo World Championships: Gold Edition reached 20.000$ in auction, but from my personal experience I think that was a BIN and never was sold. The 2 last 1990 Nintendo World Championships: Gold Edition I'm aware of finished their auctions around 7000$ or so. BTW Any of you have the link of those?

Also, the euro Kizuna Encounter for Neo Geo (10.000€) was never sold in auction, isn't it? it was hand to hand between 2 collectors.

I think this forum has the highest level of knowledge in this matter, so let's talk.

For me so far,it is Kizuna Encounter..been sold for SURE 10000€ (14500$ now) 4 years ago, hand to hand, and i "heard" (can't confirm) of another one for that price or slightly more.
No Gold NWC cart has been sold over 14500$ yet i think...confirmed sale, not a buy it now price nobody accept to pay, or shill bidding, that kind of stuff.

After that, you can go higher with "accessories" such as the Power Console.

What about PCE Hibino if we talk about hardware? I heard something about a 25000$ Yahoo auction, I think it was Thibaut who mentioned it.
Is this the holy grail of expensive hardware or is there any video game-related item that would fetch a higher price?

The last time a NWC publically sold at auction it went for $6500-$7000.

The fact is that I've bought a game hand to hand, and I've paid 11.000€ for it. I wanted to discuss it here before than any other place, since most forums seem to crucify anyone for wasting this kind of money in a game.

I'm 100% sure some people would not believe someone can pay that money for a game, BUT I do have a MD Tetris in my hands and I'm fucking proud of it! :)

Kinda expensive, but the seller's kung-fu was powerful.

I really don't care if it's the most expensive game sold, but I thought some of you could be interested in this data

I will make a conference in a commercial center here in Spain, with Alexey Patzinov, and the marketing people of this center want to publicy the event as "the more expensive game in the world" as it seems a good slogan... And I want to be sure it's not a lie.

Thanks you all for sharing your knowledge!!!

Well you'd certainly need to quantify that as *many* arcade units have sold for more than 11.000€. ;)

Of course talking in terms of collecting, not commercial. Then the value of MD Tetris would be 0, as never has been sold officially.

BTW the arcade units you talk about are with the hardware and/or cabinet, isn't it? or just the board?

    @Mundocombo

What the hell... I honestly admire your devotion to your passion. I don't know if 11 grands were justified (thought MD Tetris would be more like 2 to 3), but regarding that you're now owning one of the most legendary and rare at the same time items in gamings history, I can just congratulate you on that.

I hope we can except some pics of the mentioned event and of course of the game someday soon? :)

tekken 6 setup retailed at $36000

i know 8player daytona and some simulators were even more expensive but i dont feel like googling it up, i dont know how relevant it is to teh discussion anyways, besides these things drop half the price before youve even set it up for its first credit :p

€11000 is impressive tho.. do you feel it was worth it? do you ever play the game? what do you do with it, keep it on display somewhere and tell all your friends about it or do you have it locked away like a dirty secret?
(hope you dont mind me asking but videogame collecting is faschinating!)

Tetris for the Megadrive, it's quite rare due to it being scrapped due to Andromeda / Mirrorsoft licencing the game out to all and sundry whilst not having the rights for anything apart from Computers and not being released at all (even though it was ready to ship) although the pirate game that is out there is the same game and sadly it is a crap version of Tetris.

Then again most of the rare high priced games that didn't get released elsewhere are surprisingly crap.

Whoa! not a single post telling me I have a mental problem or something like that... really this is the best forum worldwide to talk about this. Thanks for your kinda words. I'll answer now.

To ave: Thanks for the cong. The last copy of the MD Tetris sold before mine was sold for Y925,000 in this private auction: http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/showthread.php?t=26288
3 years and a half ago. So I think maybe is not about 2 or 3 grand but a little more. This is highly subjective too.

About the pics, I'm told not to show them before the conference, but I'll show some pics here before it; this forum has been a very useful place for me and it's the minimum I can do for it. (BTW I'm sure noone from the marketing department will look into here :p)

Sven666: Be sure I tryed to pay less :), and, for me is worth the money, yes. Adol and some other MD collectors know how mad I'm collecting jap MD, and I have a complete MD collection plus SmiseyHome, Mini Kun, Mega Anser, blabla... And when I get the chance to get Tetris, THE Tetris, I gave all I have to get it... Maybe I'll never be able to catch another one, who knows...

About what I'll do... well, the first thing I want to do is show it to the world with Patzinov at my side, clarifying all the obscure aspects that surround this game, how it changed the market in its time (SEGA vs NINTENDO! Gameboy without Tetris would have not been the same...), and then I'll put it with all the other rare games I have. I'm not obssesed with the security, my car is more expensive and probably yours too, isn't it? ;)

Jamtex: Are you sure is the same game? :) Have you ever seen an original MD Tetris running? That is one of the points I'll try to clarify.

Thank you all for the comments.

You have a mental problem, or something like that imo ;-) (just teasing)

    Ahem..

Nice buy, congrats. One mega MD collection.

Although the 'most expensive game ever' tag is a bit pointless imo. Most valuable is more the way to think ie games/items that would sell for £x whenever offered for sale. I don't that that Tetris MD would sell for E11k again, in spite of that being the price you obviously had to pay to prise it from someone. After all, I could pay someone E12k for a cart only Sonic tomorrow. Then that would be the most expensive game bought, but still only worth 50p.

Congrats anyway, I'm not trying to sound down on your buy as I'm genuinely happy for you (and jealous for me lol).

But this most expensive game ever crap is just that imo.

    Edit for Baseley

    http://tengokugame.free.fr/dossier_collector/hibino.jpg

Its a custom designed pce by some JP designer Mr Hibino. 2 unique examples only I believe. Ask Thibaut lol.

No, but i have seen the back of the official MD Tetris box and it er looks exactly the same as the pirate version floating around, I can't see it being that different. I have been told by a collector that had a copy before selling it that it was exactly the same. So if you get it and it is very different then tell us all, although no lying just because you spent a lot of money on it. ;-)

Wheela : I have this rare unboxed sonic cartridge, it was touched by every person at Sega circa 1993 and I have a photocopied letter to prove it. Yours for only E15k. ;)
