The thing people are overlooking is this (and NATAL) is a choice so you can play with all the shit waggle controls or with a regular pad. On the Wii 90% of games use waggle controls, and the other 10% have a regular controller with a Wiimote dangling off it like a hi-tech tampon. Waggle games won't take over on the 360/PS3, they will just be a novelty, like the Wii is.
what happened to gaming being something for lazy people. I dont want to physically move around while playing. But on he same note, i think its better than natal. and if sony is so into copying people, why not copy xbox and get party chat on the console? and this is why nobody plays ps3 online.
Hate being the one to say it, but, yeah, "^this" I was talking with some people the other day regarding Move vs Natal and motion tech in general... what I learned from that convo is how incredibly easy it is to manipulate someone within certain fields where they are incredibly uneducated, narrow minded, or just plain unimaginative (usually just a matter of coming first or already having one foot through their door) Motion controls is a choice. Of course, a lot of Wii software suffers from unimaginative execution and what I'd dare to call "forced" or "excessive" execution. But there are plenty of games that gets it "just right" and also plenty that don't even use it at all (and as for Wii + Lazy gamers... I don't think I've ever felt as lazy as the time I played through Twilight Princess in a hotel room, stretched out on my back with nunchuk in one hand and wii remote in the other, one on each side of my body... like a corpse.) I see waggle getting brought up a lot. Some of it is justified (as a lot of games seems to only incorporate "SHAKE THE DAMN REMOTE!!" QTE-like stuff), but a lot of it seems to just be people thinking everything works that way (uneducated or pure moronic behavior). Going back to Twilight Princess (since it's a launch title), there really isn't any waggle in it. The gesture needed to trigger the sword swings in that game are probably less elaborate and demanding than most mouse movement on a PC - w/an oversensitive mouse.) As for Move "has buttons" argument; congrats, nothing prevents you from throwing in *something* with buttons on Natal too. Just like how Move is just "EyeToy w/buttons". What annoys me with Natal, though, is that they announced the removal of the dedicated hardware and will now be doing all the "translations/interpretation" via software, apparently. Don't think that's a good idea, but... hey... if I get a Minority Report dashboard... I'll still bite, regardless of software. To someone who's had a Wii since day 1 and tends to suck up to gadgetry and optional controllers for stuff; Move has almost no interest to me. It's just a Wii remote w/motion plus where someone swapped the position of the object being tracked (sensor bar/ball tip) and the camera (ir camera/EyeToy) (At least the tech inside Natal, with or without a dedicated CPU, is an interesting step up... although still just a tiny one) Additionally, more wireless designs = more batteries (unless Sony are gonna dare themselves out on another internal battery venture). Duracell stocks must be rising
you bastards should play no more heroes...with motion controls. I had a ton of fun with both of them, the satisfaction is guaranteed.
Hmmm glowsticks ? I am suddenly thinking rave parties with built in vibrators for the ladies on E and when they get horny, they can always "put on a show" on with their "Move" LOL
It's the mid 1990s all over again! Crash market, crash! (actually that's wishful thinking, more people than ever are dependent on games to escape their ragged daily lives, and it's only going to expand) Even if both Natal and Dildo fail you can bet your mom's cookies that the next round of consoles will play host to much, much more shovelware.
So ok imagine the scene, your sat at home you have a cool scary game to play & the lights are off for maximum immersion. Then you get sonys effort out, yeah big huge glowing ball you can't turn off on the end of the stick. No of course thats not going to be totally distracting is it, even when the thing is changing colours like a disco light. Did anyone at sony think that people don't always play games in totally bright lit rooms. In fact can either of these 2 be used in total darkness as when im gaming on a night i dont have all my lights blasting on full i prefer lights off. At the moment both look unappealing.
If I remember correctly, natal uses an IR sensor of sorts to measure distances and stuff with, so technically it probably doesn't rely on light for other than the regular camera part (projecting the player on screen) and evt. color/shape recognition surfaces (I suppose). But the actual motion tracking part should work in complete darkness, although a bit handicapped, as it wont be able to mix data from various sources to create a more accurate overall picture of what's what.
Well NATAL won't work in the dark, if the camera can't see you properly you are buggered. Plus you wouldn't want to be prancing around the room in the dark anyway in case you knock your beer over.
