Probably just like the Wiimote might probably not work properly when the sun is out. Lets just wait for this P.O.S to come out then we can argue the merits of InfraRed over Visible wavelengths when we have one to test in the real world. Sadly I don't have 14ft of space in front of my TV so NATAL is useless to me.
Why would move be better than natal? Technologically speaking what you're say is akin to activator > wiimote
FINALLY! Everything I think about motion controls summed up in a 2 minute video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfEGdiJRYa0&feature=player_embedded
There's a short demo video of Natal in action over on Engadget. Seems like the lag is gone and they show gender recognition too. Natal is shaping up quite nicely, I'm really quite interested.
Only thing is sure it's working there were all the system has to worry about is the camera activities. Lets see Natal working with something actually usable before it gets judged. If it still has that kind of accuracy while playing a high quality game then I'll care.
The rumored stuff about Ghost Recon: Future Soldier supporting NATAL sounds kinda interesting. The features speculated in some articles are the exact type of stuff that'll demonstrate one way of using controller w/motion controls mixed to create something that (if working as intended) would just feel right and be very welcome. The stuff that keeps popping up is support for hand gestures to send signals. (As a general note; I tend to do small gestures when I chat with people and whilst talking on the phone - just to give a general sample of how natural hand gestures for various things can be.)
There is a lot of accidental movement when playing video games. I remember that as a kid I used to bounce my hands up every time I pressed the button to make Sonic jump, as if that would make him jump higher.. =p
You gotta have the most extreme and unusual tics for them to be incorrectly interpreted as an intentional and valid hand gesture in a game with the type of gestures Future Soldier seems to possibly sport.
So its got Boobs and Balls Recognition Technology™®??!!:-0 It sure will be great to know if you're actually playing with a girl instead of some dude who's tricking you into have cybersecks with him so he can post it all over the forum...not that it ever happened to me! barc0de toll me that story... Anyways, I wonder if those anti-israel guys who want to boycot their products will realize Natal tech was made there (or will use it play some wiisport ripoff...)
Natal is not being used in a military or other stately capacity, so I fail to see the relevance between where a project might have taken place and whether someone wishes to oppose a country's naughtiness. I also suggest you don't reply to this as it will get the thread locked. Just accept what I say and move on. Seriously get over it. Let. it. go.
A friend of mine had the occasion to test Natal at a microsoft showcase in Paris. He told me the lag was awful...
It was more of a joke, but AFAIK the boycott is for israeli consumer products, after all who's buying israeli missiles anyway? and those who do are kinda on the opposite of the "world peace" business. On the other hand, theres a lot of stuff thats made on israel these days, like most Intel CPUs which BTW are based on the Pentium M architecture which was designed on israel. I wonder how much IGN paid for mega64. They used to be funny, but now? they have a late-90s-MTV humor which considering what came after that is not a good sign at all... Dunno, maybe its because they used to be the first guys making funny game videos, but after youtube everybody does that...
Gender recognition. Could they determine the sex of a cross-dresser? Or a fat man with long hair and man boobs?
