If I were to do this, my best friend would kill me.

The threat of death... that's the mark of a true friendship.

In all fairness, Japan had a missile launched over them. South Korea didn't. Wouldn't that make Japan a more likely place to get flattened? Japan/N.Korea relations are way worse to boot. Japan is the "main obstacle" in this whole nuclear shutdown for rations thing, according to N. Korea. Of course, Japan will continue to give them the finger until this is solved... or a lot closer than it is now.

Well I have a telephone interview with the School I have applied to at 8.00 am tomorrow morning.

However I don't think I'm going to be able to go. I am in a dispute with my university over field work fees. I paid them four years ago at the beginning of my course they say I didn't. Neither party has proof but because they're the bigger company they're demanding £500 before they release my graduation certificate (I got a debt letter on stage at my ceremony!)

Under the new E-2 Visa rules, my certificate has to be presented to the Korean embassy in london before I can go over there and work. Problem. I don't have £500 and I'm not one hundred percent sure I can get the cash off my parents as the family business is suffering in the winter blues.

All of my problems can be solved by getting a job and just getting on with it, but in an area with no friends and very few employment opportunities, it's going to be a dark few months. I'm not usually one to sit and feel sorry for myself but this is the lowest I have been for a long time.

Oh and as for a nuclear or ballistic missle threat...the way things are right now, I'm not too fussed.

That's the same anywhere. If you're thinking of working in any foreign country worth going to, you'll need your graduation certificate.

That was a dud, I'm talking about thousands of artillery pieces all along the border.

Have you ever seen a photo of berlin post-WWII? it was pretty much all artillery what leveled the city, and thats how seoul is gonna end if the north korean leadership gets too desperate due to lack of supplies and decides to launch a (pretty much suicidal) attack on seoul and the rest of south korea.

My point is, if you're going to a far east country with a complex lenguage, then why not japan?

My point was that your friend is completely clueless, or merely greatly exaggerating the political tensions. The Koreas hating each other is nothing new. In fact, the situation between them is better than it has been in the past. You seem to take your friends word as the gospel, which is really no surprise. You should really impose the 20 minute rule on yourself. Stop and think about each post closely for 20 minutes before posting. If it still makes sense, then post it. Then watch your internet popularity soar.

How many duds have been shot over other countries? How many of America's enemies have shot duds over it? Does China go shooting duds over other countries? Maybe me and the rest of the world suffer from the same mass delusion, but that was seen as an act of aggression.

Most convoluted point in internet history.

    Ah DUH!

The korean war was a massacre with millions of casualties, but the thing is that the war is technically still going on, get it? with thousands of weapons on both sides waiting to fire.

Now this guy I'm talking about, his another army soldier along with other thousands there stationed in the border, and he knows pretty well that if things go bad he and all the other members of the army will be the first ones to die.

Now, this sounds like the cold war right? it would if it wasnt becos the north koreans (NK) are batshit crazy, even more than the soviet and the chinese combined.

We're talking about some guys that have been starving their people to death for last 50 years. For these fuckers the main concern isnt an enemy invasion (since as you can see any victory would be pyrrhic at best). Their major fear is an internal revolt, and the fact is the only way they can keep the population controlled is with foreign help.

They're desperate for supplies, and if they dont get 'em, whats the point? NK would rather initiate a suicidal war with the west so in any case they can blame the deaths of millions to a war, rather than a counter-revolution against an inhumane and genocidal regime.

Is basic strategy: the NK leadership knows their own people wants to kill them, but they dont want to surrender to the west either (like the Nazis did to avoid the vengance of the Soviets) cuz they'll lose pretty much everything they have.

So the solution is simple: keep blackmailing south korea and the rest of the world for supplies so they can keep living in a country were theres a extremely powerful class that lives in luxury doing whatever they want to the lesser ones.

    End of story.

Japan and Russia are still at war. Do you see me hiding?

In short, no, the war is not still "going on", and there are no more weapons "ready to fire" pointed at S. Korea than there are at any other free world country any other day.

He's pulling your dick, and you are buying it. Support staff at our Korean brokers are gone for 2 weeks at a time b/c they have to go to the DMZ for their military obligations. They all do. If tensions were that high, don't you think they might not be revolving people on some go-through-the-motions rotation?

Sounds like your friend is bored since he didn't get stationed to Iraq.

I didn't know the test results from the international sanity test of those three nations were open to the public.

    -----SNIP------

Thanks for the history lesson, but the fact is, I still know way more about the situation than you. N. Korea is on the news here quite frequently and has been for ages... long before any of this nuclear plant bullshit came up.
