Sorry to hear your bad news. I hope things get better for you - of course, it's ultimately you who will make that happen ;-)

I would say that going back home, tempting as it may be, can be a money pit. It is all too easy to go and get re-acquainted with old friends. Regularly. Then, a few hundred pints later, you don't have much to show for it!

Take some time off, go somewhere new, clear your head. Yes, Korea could be the right opportunity. If it means you would be getting money and not getting yourself locked into anything long-term, why not? Who knows what may lead from there?

As for your college fees... how did you pay? Did you not get a student loan? That would, of course, have paid the fees. Or did you use a credit card, or a bank draft, or a cheque? Not many people walk around with £500 cash - and any other method will be traceable through your bank or credit card issuer.

Good luck with whatever decision you make - I hope the rest of the year brings better fortune to you ;-)

Cash. Cold and hard. It was £180 a year for 3 years. They never kept track of a single payment, but then neither did I.

I still feel pretty low at the moment, but I think taking that first step towards something new should sort me out good and proper.

    Forge receipts ;-) hehe.

Yeah, I'm sure we've all been there, and the big step is getting away from it all, finding something new. Not saying someONE necessarily, but a new situation. Travelling sounds good ;-)

Despite the context. This seems to be the most "successful" thread i've ever started.

    Misery loves company...

Read this. Uh... first line as a matter of fact.

I'll chalk this one up as a win.

Ah shit a diplomatic battle! take cover! beware of the sharp pencils!

Seriously dude, how can you compare that to three massive armies with tons of firepower 2.5 miles of each other to a minor conflict over 4 little islands?

Even the dispute between spain and morocco over the perejil islands is bigger than that...

That's the point. The "conflict" (those are finger quotes, btw) between N. & S. Korea is the same (although a Russian ship took some Japanese fishers captive this past year -- it's not all words).

And as before, Japan and N. Korea have way worse relations than the Koreas. Japan sank a N. Korean ship in 1999, and is currently the "main obstacle" in the North Korea disarming bullshit.

The whole argument is quite retarded anyway. We went on this tangent b/c in your opinion, it's dangerous for the OP to live in Seoul. You realize there are wars and terrorist attacks going on in other cities around the globe daily, right? Yet you think living in a place that's been in a cock-swinging contest only with it's neighbor for decades is dangerous? If that were the case, why would Seoul's tourist industry be booming? I assume you've never left the states, and this is hard for you to grasp, but your views seem uneducated, even for a high school student.

The only scenario in Seoul would be levelled by NKPA artillery is if an American-led invasion took place. Chances of that happening: 0.01%. The Korean governments are poles apart in terms of politics, but both North and South want reunification; it's just they both want it with themselves in charge. A war with Japan is marginally more likely, but only if the DPRK's brinkmanship tactics backfire drastically.

Japan and Russia have yet to sign a peace treaty, but since it was expected for Russia to occupy Hokkaido at the end of WWII, in the same fashion that the US occupied Okinawa, and thus turning Japan into a second divided Germany, I think Japan should count itself lucky.

The greatest security threat in East Asia right now is the Taiwan question. The two sides shelled each other for 20 years (for so long in fact, they eventually organised to take turns on alternate days) and there have been several firefights in the Taiwan Straits over the years.

    /off-topic

Twimfy: Go to Korea/Japan/wherever. Fresh start, new friends, novel environment. I highly recommend it.

Congrats. I go on biness from time to time. Maybe our paths will cross. If you play Texas Hold 'em, there's a game at the Walker Hill Sheraton. It's heavily raked though.

Jesus this is a blast from the past (can't believe this thread got 1500+ views misery loves company I guess).

Turned out she went a bit nuts in the end, pissed off all of her friends and is rarely seen by anybody.

Got a new squeeze now. Funny how it all seemed so shit at the time. What will be will be.
