I am getting $300 back from Taxes... question is do I make the leap? It hadn't even crossed my mind till I read this thread and remember that I still don't have one. :crying: By the way, does the system itself come with any demo or anything? Blowing all this cash on the system and one game would be a pretty big leap in terms of wasteful spending. Plus, what one game would anyone say is the most replayable? Always loved Pilotwings, and what about this Steel Diver? Damn, I shouldn't be so interested, but I crave the 3DS, and I don't know why... ;-)
No demo but there are pre-installed in the OS some AR games and other entertaining apps. Browser, e-shop and probably demos are coming with the may firmware update. I can speak only about SSFIV3DE because that's the only one I own and I must say that production values are fantastic for a launch game also it's the only game so far that employ an online mode and that sure help the replayability department.
Wow karsten, have to disagree, since I picked mine up I've been loving it - no ghosting etc, only standard out of focus entities depending on focused object just like the real world. Rayman was odd though, got a lot of motion sickness, I blame this on a sloppy port (the point of interest is Rayman who's a few metres into the shot so you constantly have level geometry accelerating towards you) as SSFIV is impeccable. It does take some time to get used to and playing it in the dark is *much* easier, but once you've adjusted it's fine and, also, yes - you do eventually start to not notice that you're playing in 3D as it's just another form of immersion, conversely, I am *aware* that I'm playing in 2D on my PC when I go back to it.
loving mine too, there are times in the morning when I check my streetpass notifications/etc where my eyes aren't ready for the 3D but I just use 2D at those times. SSFIV with the 3D slider all the way up is pretty awesome, I'm yet to use the 3D slider anywhere less than full if it's on.
No, no ghosting - I have a PSP-1000 & 2000 so I'm well aware of what ghosting looks like - I had to trade in Rayman though due to aforementioned motion-sickness inducing 3D... Everything about the Rayman port screamed cheap and rushed though, maybe you're seeing another result of this.
That seems doubtful to me, for 2 reasons. Firstly, I notice it even in the built-in menus. It's hard to see, but its there. If it were a software problem, you would expect that they would at least fix the problem in the menus. Secondly, the ghosting can be increased or decreased slightly by turning the system. If it were something in the software, you would expect that you would see it the same no matter what angle it was at. The way I understand it, the only way this problem could be solved is if the parallax barrier could be adjusted. I don't think it can, but I don't know for sure. It's possible that it's an individual thing, like maybe it has to do with how far apart your eyes are. That might explain why sephiap doesn't see it but we do. It's also possible that it's a manufacturing defect, so some units have it and others don't. Incidentally, I noticed that the effect is most pronounced in areas of high contrast - i.e. where there's a light area next to a dark area. I'm guessing that's because the ghost blends in otherwise. I think in all likelihood this is a problem that isn't going to go away. They might fix it in a subsequent hardware revision, but I think those of us who bought the system at launch are probably stuck with it - which isn't too bad, really. As I said before, it isn't really that noticeable. Of course, if there is a solution I will welcome it with open arms.
Yeah, the areas of high contrast have it very bad. It also changes pending on how far away you are from an object. I've also heard that tiredness of the eyes and lighting can have an effect on whether or not you see ghosting... so... If they do release a new model where this issue is addressed, I hate to say it but I'd have it pre-ordered on day 1. OH:
Ghosting on 3DS (at least what is talked about here) isn't the same ghosting on the PSP. This seems to be the case for me, in ridge racer at least. Didn't notice it the first few days then noticed it one day in the car selection screen and was able to adjust the system a bit to get it to go away. Yet a day later I end up playing at night when tired and no matter what I did I coun't get rid of it from my left eye. A few times I had it in my right eye only.
subbie, exactly what I noticed.. especially after 8 hours of staring at a computer monitor.. it's rough.
I normally buy new hardware as soon as it hits the shops, but I'm going to wait a while and see what games appear on the 3DS. I'm sure the Big N will come up with some great titles, but I'm concerned the shelves will be swamped with rubbish from third-party developers.
Which is why its better to wait, after all the screens and overall built quality of the DSlite were far superior to those of the original DS. And before anyone brings the "you have to wait a year for that", dude: the launch lineup sucks, just like PSPs, why buy an expensive console with hardware bugs and no games? so you can brag about it? I'll wait until they fix that and release some decent games...
My eyes SUCK like I'm nearly blind in my left eye. None the less I was able to see the 3d on the 3ds no problem. I was neat could I play a game on that for 2-3 hours prob not but I liked what I saw and I'll buy one when the games are there.
If Nintendo delivers on what all they said would be out this year, then the 3DS is going to have a killer first year. See: Kid Icarus, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, new Paper Mario, Mario Kart 3D, Super Mario Bros. 3D, Star Fox 64 3D. Not the mention the third party titles like Resident Evil Mercenaries, Dead or Alive Dimensions, and Cave Story 3DS. I mean, I remember the first year of the DS. It was nothing like that.
I'll wait until the 3DSi Lite XL comes along then buy it and play through the back catalog of games. The MGS3 remake looked promising.
Except for paper mario, icarus and (I guess) RE, the rest are remakes, and from the screens I can tell DOA is going to suck big time. Again, right now there are no good games for it, while in a year or so you'll be able to get better hardware for less and a big catalog to go with it.
Unless you're actually trying to say that a souped up gaming specific iPad is more innovative than the first instance of technology containing non-monochromatic glasses free 3D.
Show me a portable device that uses both capacitive touch on the front and back, as well as a quad core processor and dual analog sticks. Doesn't exist? Didn't think so.
