No, you can't close the two halves when the microSD card is in. You *may* be able to carve out a notch internally on the front plate to keep it inserted and hidden, however, considering what a pita famicom carts are to open, I'm happy to have the gap in there. Also, of note, with the Tennis cart, I had to snap off 2 bits of plastic near the top of the cart. They didn't hold anything else in place, and were easily snapped off by hand. The ED cart takes up the full height in the cart case.
Since the poll has reached 50 votes I thought it would be fun to share. "What Everdrive would you like to see next" http://poll.pollcode.com/tbhf1q I'm actually a bit surprised as I though a lot more votes would have on the Jaguar since a lot of people seemed to favor it. The Game Boy is in the big lead with over 60% votes, which I'm personally glad to see. Note: Remember, this is just a private poll. It has no association with Krikzz and his products or future work. I made the poll myself out of cutriosity.
The Jag!!?......don't see the point of designing and making an Everdrive for a console that has less than approx 25 retail games. Might be why the Jag didn't get much love??
I think it's closer to 75 or so total with a small number of them made for the "toilet seat" addon they called CD system.
I've never used a Jaguar, but isn't it only cartidge and CD-ROM? I'm sure I read somewhere that there's homebrew games made for the Jaguar, but presumably you can only use it if you have the CD add-on (does it need to be chipped to play homebrew CDs?), so cartridge only users would benefit from an Everdrive so they can use the homebrew (assuming that there is homebrew (I could be mis-remembering it) and that the homebrew is worth playing).
I wouldn't mind a Jaguar Everdrive at all, but I would much rather have on for the good ol' GameBoy since it has such an enormous library of games. Plus that I think everyone one here either have or had a Game Boy at some point in their life and have fond memories of the games. Plus that there really aren't any good flash carts for the console at all. There are a few very old, half assed solutions which requires bank switching and can only support one save and only has about 6MB of space. I would buy a Gameboy Everdrive in an instant as long as it's under $200. The Jaguar is much more of a curiosity for most gamers and the Neo Geo is an expensive niche console. I also believe that Krikzz have said on many occasions that he dosn't have any real interest in working with the Neo Geo since it's both expensive and very difficult to work with. But you never know I don't know if the Saturn would be able to support an everydrive in it's cartridge slot.
I'd still like to see Game Boy Advance. Most fancier cards are long gone. About all you can get easily now is ez-flash IV for anything decent. Even that still uses a save battery, has no real time clock, and the commonly found version AFAIK only loads 32MB games from NOR memory.
While I would certainly still buy a GBA Everydrive if Krikzz were to make one, I don't find the GBA "retro enough" plus that there were many good flash carts around during it's lifespan, so there aren't much of an urgent need for one I think.
I'd imagine that Gameboy/Gameboy Color would be the next most marketable and sensible choice. There isn't much complicated going on in GB cartridges. And there isn't currently a mass storage capable cartridge. The Smart Card 64M that is available is nice but suffers from capacity limits and is missing two key compatibility features. I hope if Krikzz does another project that it is for the GB.
Other than color support, I think GB Color ED could work on non Color system to play non Color games? Or is there some significant difference in cart hardware between BW GB and Color?
all gb flashcarts (still in the market or production stopped) support both gb and gbc. of course you cannot play gbc only games on bw gb. it is even possible to play both gb/gbc and gba games on Flash Advance cards via an adapter called GB Bridge. it would be a dream to have a modern version of this combo with SD cart. combined with GBA SP AGS-101, it would be great. there is sd cart based solutions for gba, but none for gb/gbc for now. i am pretty sure gameboy everdrive would sell much much better than gamegear everdrive which krikzz already did. he said he did a prototype for gameboy everdrive but it consumed too much power if my memory serves right. might be the same problem with gb flashcarts having problem with gb pocket.
i don't think Krikzz will do a new everdrive for a while. he will concentrate on NES and Famicom Everdrives for some time i guess.
I really hope that a GB/GBC Everydrive will still work on an SP. Don't get me wrong, I love my GameBoy, I don't however, like AA batteries. I know there are unofficial gameboy games that won't play on anything but the original brick so I guess it's something you have to take into account. Would also be cool if the Everdrive had a cool background/frame when played on the Super Gameboy like Donkey Kong or Aladdin had back in the day
that is impossible unfortunately. GBA lets the game viewed at original resolution or stretched to fit the screen (avoid it at all costs). if you choose the first mode, you can't use the left and right part of screen for anything else. the closest thing you can do is find the gb emulator for gba called goomba and run it via flash cart on gba. it has some pre-installed,resized for gba super game boy borders. only left and right parts can be seen though because of the resolution problems. or get a super game boy (or better super game boy 2)
