About a week or so back a new Sonic Generations demo was uploaded to Xboxlive. It still has a disclaimer stating that the demo is far from finished. It also still has the frame rate issues that the original demo had but get this. The new demo also has a stage featuring modern sonic that has no frame rate issues. Could this mean that they will make the classic Sonic sections look more smooth and cleaner? Fingers crossed.

As for the way it plays, well the classic levels are excelent (when you can see what's going on). The modern levels are what you'd expect in style terms but do seem to play rather well. They're still on rails alot but so was Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast and many loved that game.

I actually liked the demo a lot (both styles), makes me cautiously optimistic for the full game.

The way it is, they are already probably rendering at a lower resolution than 720p to make it work at all. Which is why I'm glad there is a PC version coming out.

Still, what I played of the first demo on PS3 seemed just fine regardless of frame rate dips.

Did they improve the controls? Classic sonic in the last demo was still off. Also the 3d in the game was just horrible (we have a 3d tv at work).

No idea about the 3D but the controls seemed fine to me. It's the blur from the frame rate that I don't like. The bigger the TV the worse it looks too. Tried it out on my regular gaming TV (42" Toshiba Regza) and then on my PC monitor (24" Acer) both at 1080p and it did look a bit better on the smaller screen. I don't want a smaller screen for my HD gaming though.

I got no such blur on the TV I film Retrocade off of. It's I think a 40' Vizio.

It's not motion blur because of the TV but blur due to frame rate. All TVs will give the same result unless it's a shit TV which has it's own motion blur added to the effect. The original demo had this issue as well which many people pointed out. The classic levels need to run at 60fps but as they are they seem to be running at 30fps which makes things look unclear.

I'm rather disappointed with this new demo, the framerate is still so bad...i think the final retail will have the same default... :(

Is the frame rate bad on all versions? I've only seen the 360 version. The strange thing is that the modern Sonic levels look fine.

Got the PS3 demo and it's absolutely fine as far as framerate is concerned but I do agree with Yakumo on the blurring issues in classic mode, that said I think its more of a design issue. They've implemented motion blur to enhance the illusion of speed but the flaw presents itself by not really allowing you to see any of the environment in any detail when moving. I've actually played through the classic mode at a snails pace just to have a gawp at the nice surroundings.

As far as fixes are concerned, the jump height limit has been increased in the new demo which I think makes a big difference. I actually think they've done a really nice job of emulating the classic feel, so much so that it was almost difficult to play as my brain couldn't comprehend such mechanics in a modern game, I almost expected the homing attack to be there.

I even loved the modern level and had great fun with it although I find the environments feel rather empty.

It's looking to be a great game and I really can't wait, if you want a more advanced preview check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgKsUzrAFpQ

I've pre-ordered the collector's edition of the game at a whopping £85 (worth it for a Sonic fan I think though) and I'll post a full review of the game on here as soon as I'm done playing it.

As a die-hard Sonic fan, I really believe that this might be the game I've been waiting for, so much so I'm not even going to bother with the "Sonic cycle" meme.

My only hope is that they continue to add more classic levels with DLC. The line up as it stands is fairly good (although there's a strange absence of Sonic 3 levels) although I hate having to pay for DLC, I think this is one game which could get away with doing it.

I originally pre-orderd the Japanese collectors edition frim Amazon but then noticed it wasn't released until December ! So, I put myself down for the Asian release which comes out the same time as the UK and US. Japanese 360 releases are so bloody slow for the most part.

Do you have a link for the JP collectors edition? I'm curious to know if it differs.

My biggest fear with this game is where does the franchise go next? They've done pretty well to make up a two timeline story in order to please fans of both Sonic eras but will it just go back to the new era once this game is all said and done?

I'm hoping they'll focus closely on consumer feedback and consider keeping the 2D sections in future games.

Oh my. That is a million times better. I bet the game is region locked which is why Amazon Japan aren't selling that version. Normally if a game isn't region locked they will sell it to people in Japan no matter if it's PAL or NTSC. My Drift 3 is the UK version and that came from Amazon Japan.
