I've made an unmoderated thread for people to vent their hatred of Dion in.

    http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31913

    All complaints go there.

    -------------------------------------

    Dion some questions:

Do you know of any unreleased games only in Japanese collections?

Do you have repair documents for the home system?

Has anyone ever told you you're Narcissistic?

I've never seen any, and honestly I hope anything like that never comes here.

I would have thought that if you wanted to show photos of yourself, though, doing so with your NeoGeo collection (or just the collection itself, given that people have queries about what you own) would be more relevant than pictures of yourself out at nightclubs.

    O.K.
    Some new Q's:

    dion,

    - The Combo MVC/CD system (something I don't even recall hearing about back in the day)....was that the neo star?.....the neo equator?....were those both protype codenames names for the same piece of kit? (like how the dreamcast was codename Katana and Black belt before it became the Dreamcast and the Wii was the Revolution when codenamed).

    - We have all heard about the 2-D capabilities secondary chipset of the Hyper neo Geo 64 board and we have all see some light display of that in the available 3-D software but did you ever know of or see any actuall (footage) of a title/titles in development for the system that were strictly 2-D?

    - You posted years back that you were at an AOU show and Last Blade 3 was on display (one of two top tier titles that code has been confirmed existing, the other being the follow up to Mark of the Wolves). Was it in playable or "video" form and do you have any pictures from when you attended that event?

    Neo Star & Neo Equator
I gave some details on the neostar a few pages back.
Neo Star was the working title for what became the NeoGeo CD.
Neo Equator is the working name for the "Hyper NeoGeo 64."

We saw nothing of games in the works and nothing of 2-D games.
And I was a big fan of the Hyper Neo.
In my opinion, SNK made a huge mistake when they stopped supporting the Hyper Neo as soon as they did. The programmers were still learning how to use the system, and before anyone knew it, the system became dead . Such a shame.

That was the same time we first saw and announced a NEW title, Nightmare in the Dark.
As for Last Blade 3, they were showing promo videos of art concepts and game footage, but nothing was available for play/testing. I didn't take photos cause I would have for sure bet that LB3 would have been released. It was always the third party games that I was worried about and took photos of.

I don't know if my message keeps getting buried under all the BS name calling or if no one really finds it interesting that SNK claims that Metal Slug 1 was never released for the home system. That would mean 100% of every USA AES Metal Slug sold was a fake... Or maybe it's a big typo on SNK's part... Anyone??

    Thanks for the answers.

    Here are a few more:

In regards to KOF 2000 U.S.

The agreement was made with SNK and yourselves.
They designed the art pack (insert, manual and cart sticker) with input from you and Chris.
They sent you the digital files for the artwork.
and you had the artwork "packs" (insert, sticker and manual) printed up by a proffesional printing house.

    Correct?

I remeber that being how it went down when I spoke to you and SNK Japan. Just wanted to confirm.

    Another Q:

after all these years, of collecting and discovering in this hoby, what are the (top) 3 items that come to mind RIGHT OFF THE BAT that are your most cherished and for what reasons. The key thing here is that i'm not looking for items that come to mind that based on thier cost, value, status, rarity, etc.
What are the top 3 Neo related items that you are the most impressed with, enamored by and that you find the most satisfaction in even if they were common and dirt cheap?
They can be any value and rarity, but I want you to focuss on the item itself for what it is, not it's desireability to others based on those factors so try to choose without those in mind.

THEN, tell us the top 3 (Neo related) items that come to mind instantly when you think of the things you have either learned about existing/being made and never was able to find in the open or never bought and always wished you did/could as well as saw in the open but passed on and regreted it later.

I think it was just another screw up on playmore's part.
But soon enough people will say it was a fake all along and that's why it's so rare. (look at the right corner on page 14 of the manual under a 100x microscope and you'll see it says "Dion." lol)

By the way Matthew.... your insert should arrive to you on monday.
    Free insert. Free shipping. lol
(you owe me a drink when you come to vegas) lol

Mitch, that is a 10 year old topic and it's been done to death.
Kevin said no more questions on inserts, etc... It's all been answered before.

In all my years of being a neo fan and being online, I've never once said I valued a specific neo item because of cost.

The three items.... (hmmm... you got me on this one Mitch).... hmmm...

You would think I would/could say The English KoF2000.
The hype, the controversy, NGF doing something that no one else has ever done. It's a great part of neogeo history.

But I won't say KoF2000 because it may seem biased

    but let me think..............

    1. My Shock Troopers:2nd Squad original hand drawings/framed

    2. My complete neogeo freak (NF) magazines collection. Full run from 1995-2000

Pictured is the full 1995 set.

    3. NeoGeo Pocket Station.

Excellent question. But I would have to give credit to some of the games that really got me into the neo.
AoF2, SS2. WH2Jet are my favorite neo fighting games. And those games got me really hooked.

I love the freak magazines and ninja master's mook.
Also, My complete neogeo flyer and mvs leaflet collection. I have just about every flyer and mvs leaflets in both english (providing) and japanese.

    TGS Cartridge
I wish I would have snatched (but I'm not dishonest) the NeoGeo AES Metal Slug 2 or maybe it was Slug X, TGS cartridges. It actually had Tokyo Game Show on the title screen. It was specifically programmed to say TGS during the title screen and during the attract mode. (I think chris has video footage of it in action)

Great questions mitch. I almost forgot about the TGS cartridge. Thanks for making me remember that. (now I feel bad for not having it) lol.

The Neo Pocket Station, was that a store demo unit, or a debug unit?

Do you own any neo mvs games or aes systems with super low serial numbers?

I think it's a DEV unit. I think Brian has one as well.

about the mahjong controller: I remember back in the days, it was an impossible item to find until some guy from hong kong started to sell them one by one.
The very first ones went, if I remember right, for crazy high prices.
Did you have informations from SNK japan people as of why a controller compatible with games was SO difficult to get ?
Also, do you know the Hong Kong guy ? How did he manage to get so many controllers at once ? Was he a collector or just a wholesaler ?

Another question: do you know about the Vic-A neo geo released in south korea ? do you own one ? have you ever seen or heard of (or own) korean localised neo geo games (or maybe neo-alec does) ? Do you have pictures of the systems or eventual AES/MVS games ?

Asked about the guillemot brothers because two months ago, I found a guy selling those on ebay:

I've been collecting video games for twelve years with a big interest for hard blister packs and that was the very first time I saw those.
I asked about it on neo-geo.com.... and received the usual welcome on those boards haha.
Do you own cd games packed this way by Guillemot International ? Pics of them ?
Also, about the Guillemot bros, at the release of the Neo Geo in France, they started a rental service (that's how I played neo geo for the first time). Was their a rental service organised in the USA ? By whom ? How much did it cost ?
Do you have informations or stories to tell about the japanese rental system (with the green box) ? Was it made by SNK themselves ? In some particular shops ?

Last question for today, watch this french video from 1992 (interesting part is starting at 0:35)
    http://www.ina.fr/economie-et-societe/vie-sociale/video/CAB92073827/jeux-video.fr.html
Have you been to such place that had neo-geo games ?

It's strictly a DEV unit. They wouldn't release it to the public, but I am sure that if SNK didn't go bankrupt that we would have eventually had an NGPC to AES converter kinda like the Super Gameboy adapter for SNES.

Dion, I don't know if you saw my old question I think it got buried but I asked "How were the repairs handled? Were they done in house or done exclusively by SNK?" And by repairs I mean to software.

Well, the NGPC was always the poor man's Neo Geo, so I doubt a converter would be successful. The NGP Station sounds very exciting, I'd definitively get one.

    Mahjong controller
I remember back around 1996 or 1997, on the neo mailing list, I made posts about a rare controller that was never released (or so I thought), the neogeo mahjong controller.

Attacked for mentioning a rare item - typical
As soon as I mentioned a mahjong controller, I was immediately attacked by a nameless few people saying there was no way snk would make a mahjong controller for the neogeo, because their main concern was arcades/mvs, and they wouldn't make something like for mvs cabinets.

Well, a few years later they finally surfaced.
And of course, all the people that attacked me for just mentioning a simple controller, never apologized. Those same people still attack any info I give now. It's strange how some people act.

I can't answer that. I do remember a small number of people mentioning someone from singapore selling some (not hong kong). All the mahjong controllers I purchased were from japan.

    2 available

I still have 2 available. One is a loose controller (excellent condition) and the other is NEW/MINT/NEVER OPENED complete in the box with all packings and manual. If you or anyone is interested, drop me an email or private message.

I've only seen some mvs cartridges. I may have a few.

Guillemont International was a distributor in France and they sold aes/cd. You can clearly see their distributor information on the blister packs.
They also put their names on the game manuals as did NGF. But the people in france and other countries didn't complain like the same 5 people did when NGF did it.

    NeoGeo Rental

Yes, the neogeo had a rental service in early 1991 or so.
They tried it out of a big chain called Blockbuster and other family run video rental stores. It didn't work.

I still have a new/unused store window display of the neogeo rental, with the bigger badder better logo. super rare (20 years old, never used).

As for the white box with green stripe, I don't recall that being a rental box. That was the first year japanese box (later changed to full color box we're all more familiar with).

What they show in that video is a big chain retail store warehouse.
You can imagine a store like Toy r Us, Target, Walmart, and looking at their centralized distibutor location.

Back around 1999-2000 when NGF was frequently going to tokyo, japan, there was a store called SoftMap that had many stores and all stores had a huge neo section. Very much a "WOW" experience the first time seeing that in a retail store.

I wasn't sure if I was one of those people that needed to post their questions again (as requested), so thought it best to do it again anyway (with one more added ^_^). Hope it is O.K.

Dion, what item, or items are you most fond of in your collection?

Because you have touched on it in past posts, in your opinion, what would you say is the most difficult or rarest official game to collect out there?

You seemed to have taken lots of pictures back then of many things, did you not take a picture of Warlock back then, too? Even when in the process of selling them? If yes, would you be able to share that picture? Did none of the people you sold it to not ask for one as well before buying, just in case?

Do you own or know of any Japanese sample type games? I don't mean prototypes, but rather ones that were used for in-store play (like demos) or at promotional events?

    TIA

Another member asked me those questions. I answered and also included photos.

The official english KoF2000 is THE rarest aes cartridge by far.
Also the official games NGF distributed with full manual: Diggerman, Zupapa, The Irritating Maze, Bang Bead, Diggerman, ZedBlade are all extremely rare to find.
Also Kizuna Encounter, Ultimate 11, Double Dragon, and Quiz Chibi.

    Of course I showed photos.

I spoke of that as well.
TGS Cartridge of Metal Slug 2 (or X)
It actually said TGS on the title screen and during the attract mode. Very kool.
