What many of you seem to be forgetting is that Yuji Naka was only a very talented programmer within Sonic Team, and that it was Naoto Ohshima who was the creative genius behind the likes of NiGHTS. In fact, it was around the time of his departure (supposedly due to his falling out over how the "Adventure" series was progressing) that Sonic Team's quality control hit the proverbial fan. If anybody deserves to resurrect the brilliant NiGHTS, it should be his new group and definitely not Sonic Team or whatever third party developer gets the final honours. Then again, who's to say there really is going to be a NiGHTS update for the Wii? I'm not doubting the co-incidence of that teaser image, but has anybody else stopped to think about the possibility of this mystery game's identity being revealed as the long-awaited and highly secretive Mario Galaxy? Finally, the only screenshot of the "AIR NiGHTS" project turned out to be a well executed hoax made up of combined in-game pictures from the original and Cotton 2. Of course, I could be wrong and something genuine really may exist...
I don't know why people like the SA games. They weren't terrible, but the camera system was awful, and the characters seemed floaty as if you weren't in full control. Plus, Big the Cat. And those horrible Knuckles' Raps in SA2. NiGHTS was pretty good though - although I only ever played the Christmas version - I just really love Star Fox 64. I unlocked every damn thing in that game. Slippy Vs. Tanks!
Oh, SA 2's music was bloody awful ! It was the first time EVER that I had to turn off the sound while playing Knuckles levels. I'm glad Secret Rings isn't half as bad as SA2 was. Part 1 wasn't too bad mind you. You are right about the camera angles though. Yakumo
Secret Rings is good, then? The reviews are mixed, but tend towards high rather than low, I suppose. I was torn over whether to get Sonic or SSX Blur...I ended up opting for the latter, but I still really want to try out SR. Damn the limits of my money! Anyway, I checked this months issue of NGamer (I'm subscribed, see) - I hadn't noticed the big next month ad. Doesn't really seem to suggest NiGHTS as much as the ONM one - no outlines or anything. I should be able to get some scans of the next issue by Monday or Tuesday, so I'll 'hook you guys up' if there's anything good.
Really? could you give more details on that? is interesting... About SA2, I dont think it was half as bad as all the crap that came after, and on the other hand I was far too busy trying to find the damn emeralds during the knuckles/rouge levels to check how bad the music was. Or maybe is that all rap music sounds bad... And starfox64 was a great game no doubt, but since assault I'm afraid the franchise is falling into the same hole most sonic games did.
But as with the Sonic games, the handheld versions are still quite good. Starfox Command was FAR from perfect, but it was a lot of fun: and after all, Falco does kick ass. I think it's pretty obvious that Naoto Ohshima played a big role at Sonic Team. Nowadays the third-parties SEGA contract out to do better than them - compare Sonic Rush to Shadow the Hedgehog or the X360/PS3 game. I rest my case.
--What?? Actually, the only negative reason i can think of about having a sequel to NiGHTS is that sega is recently bullshithing players with crap quality games in too much quantity.
Anathemia might be right regarding the starry silhouette appearing on the mag. You know, Mario galaxy has a lot of Stars too
If you ask me the old SEGA was beyond anything else in (videogame) history, and thats why it went broke becos you cant sell ferraris at the price of a ford, and thats what SEGA tried to do with the Dreamcast and expensive games like Shenmue. Today SEGA is, as the name says, a corporation: where there was designers and such now theres only suits talking about the price of their stock at Wall Street. I dont know if this recent wave of recognition to SEGA's works in the past is either good or bad, since while finally people react to how excelent the products of this company were, is too damn late to make a difference and help it to recover. Lets face it: the old SEGA is DEAD, and it wont come back, EVER. Hello!
Well, it's confirmed: A Sequel to NiGHTS is in the works for the Wii! http://livenintendo.com/2007/03/19/confirmed-nights-to-show-up-on-the-nintendo-wii/ I'm not sure whether it's a good thing - after all that waiting and all that hype, will it be a disappointment? :/
Wait just a sec: Spong are the most unreliable source on the web. I will wait for a slightly more reputable source before I celebrate. NEXT!
Ah well, this month's issue of NGamer, whilst excellent, proved to be a disappointment on the NiGHTS/unrevealed game front. Seems to have been pushed back to next month... Curse them. Maybe it's just a ploy? There's also an advert for ONM which makes no mention of any secret announcement. On the plus side, Heatseeker got 80%
Couldn't find the CG from the DC in E398 ones eh? Too bad I really wanted to see at least some concepts of the game Cool.. But, were these prototypes or something being built for nights?
The concept was just one blurry image of the joker with some purple stars in the background, nothing more, and for today standarts that's some half-assed 3D design. The rumor says the DC remote was made in collaboration with Naka who was still thinking about Air Nights...
