DL-DVD is fine for most games actually. Usually video files are the most space consuming part of PS3 games, which is why MGS4 is around 40gb.
I don't think I've ever met anyone daft enough to believe that a move to internal HD-DVD drive for the 360 would've been a good thing. So, nice to meet you. Still images don't take up that much space, really. That's a streaming issue, though, not computational. All studio released HD-DVD movies were 1080p AFAIK so clearly there's no problem there. Compared to what? If you're comparing it to the PS3 then the minor number-crunching difference between hasn't made any visible difference in most multiplatform games, so who gives a fuck? Your posts are poorly thought out and barely legible. Make an effort, eh?
You could also argue they rushed release to get to market before the PS3. So they did have a choice, but they chose to launch in 2005. Edit: I don't want to be associated with angelwolf's posts
Indeed. But they sort of had to get the specs nailed down much sooner than that to give devs a reasonable blueprint from which to program the first games on. So with that in consideration, there really was no option but to use teh standard dvd format. No biggie really. Hahaha!
On topic, If Nintendo didn't generate so much shovelware in their games and just concentrated on their major earners, like the Mario, Zelda etc franchises, and made each one better than the last, that would be highly profitable. These are the sorts of games that people buy Nintendo for anyway, especially these days when disposable income to buy games is less. It is entirely unrealistic in this day and age for a company not to make losses in profits; they should be pleased they're making a decent profit at all. As stated several times earlier by others, those who want a Wii already have one anyway. One thing I think Nintendo should do is to release several SNES and NES games onto the DS per cart, say 10 games in a DS cart that costs about £20 retail. Their old backlog of games were pretty excellent, the R&D paid for, just needs conversion to the DS format. That would provide probably more profit stream than some of their shovelware, at minimal cost.
I think Nintendo needs to make NEW games, not keep rehashing Mario Kart and Zelda. I'm sick of those games. We need something new. I miss that from Nintendo. It seems that every console release is a chance to play the same old games again and this needs to change.
Nintendo is definitely beating a dead horse these days. They are continuing to do what worked for them 5 years ago without really innovating.
That's pretty much exactly what they've done. The shovelware on Wii comes from third parties who want to take advantage of the market share but don't want to invest the cash in making a proper game.
