That's not the whole story. The event is actually called "Nintendo 3DS Shinseihin Happyoukai" (ニンテンドー3DS 新製品発表会). "Shinseihin" (新製品) means "new product" or even "new product line", while "happyoukai" (発表会) is a more innocuous "presentation". This means that Nintendo is revealing something. It is definitely a new product, but is that new product a game, a hardware revision, or some sort of add-on? Japanese forum 2ch is buzzing, but leaning more towards either a hardware revision (maybe a 3DS XL or a 3DS Lite?) or the rumored second thumbstick. Or maybe it's a 3D-free 3DS? They wouldn't call it the Nintendo 64 if it wasn't 64bit. They wouldn't call it Game&Watch if it didn't have a built in watch. They wouldn't call it Donkey Kong if their wasn't a donkey involved. They wouldn't call it 4D Boxing if it wasn't breaking down the wall of space time. etc. That said, I doubt they'll ever remove the 3D feature
I'm hoping it's some kind of add-on, like the rumored second analog stick, or perhaps a 3rd 5D screen.
I don't buy into the hardware stuff. It will be software. Kotaku is a crap site. Not sure I buy into the rumored Monster Hunter 3D either (makes no sense for capcom, not even money hat would offset the losses from not doing another PSP Monster Hunter).
All this hype better be for Mario Super Strikers 3D or I'm gonna be pissed. Also, my life has improved dramatically since I swore off Kotaku a couple months ago.
I doubt it's a redesign, considering they're releasing a new Fire-red version of the current 3DS model next week.
If it is a redesign I doubt 20 virtual console games will keep there current fanbase happy... ...but just maybe if it is some sort of a 3DS powered Android cell phone it just might work /Sarcasm
They named a console "Wii". I wouldn't be surprised if they just started making up symbols for names soon... "Coming next fall, the brand new 'Nintendo :banghead:'"
Maybe they will just present to the public a completely new franchise for the relatively newly annouced Wii U console. It wouldn't be surprising at all.

They'll probably just announce a remake of Majora's Mask and then announce a lew line of 3D Classics games including Super Mario Bros. 3 and A Link to the Past. If Nintendo actually announces a new hardware revision they'll be as retarded as Sega was way back when.

Monster Hunter 3G (expanded version of the wii game) & Right Stick add-on for the 3ds. (should note, current rumors that go with MH3G state Vita is getting a updated version of MHP3 HD). Personally I think this is kind of stupid for capcom, breaking up the fanbase (should have done a PSP game for maximum milkage). As for the 2nd stick, go **** your self nintendo. That I do know. Just there was early rumors MH3G for 3DS would support online play (specially since MH3 for wii did).
Obviously a compromise to "not screw early adopters over" until the eventual redesign hits. It had to be done. Well, not releasing it with one stick first and doing this save-face. I mean.. to at least not doom compatibility. Sucks. At least controls will be a bit more handy now (when the redesign comes).
While it is absolutely stupid of them to do this, I support adding more bulk to the system. Its too small now!
