Another vote for the first few Megaman games. They aren't universally loved, but if you're a fan of the series (the NES titles especially) you'll probably find a lot to like.

Try out Mega Man 5 as it actually has new bosses. I played through it not long ago and liked it quite a bit.

Does the Gameboy Color LCD not suffer from blurry lag like older models such as the GBP? That was something that in my opinion makes playing games like Contra (Operation C) really difficult since things blur when in motion and you may not see projectiles coming to kill you.

But I've heard its LCD still has the blur problem doesn't it? I never had a big problem seeing the screens without built-in lighting. But the blur can be killer as I said. Plus the GB Light is JP-only and somwhat pricey to get.

I'm kind of curious about this. My big reasons for wanting the light is I'm more likely to play at home at night and since my wife has to be up early the lights tend to be turned off by 11. I also remember having a lot of trouble finding ok lightly conditions to play a GBC (or first model GBA).

Currently I'm just resorting to emulation on my PSP but ghosting on the PSP screen is just ugly (it's a PSP2k), besides other emulation issues. Luckily my coworker says he might have a GB Pocket/Light at home I can barrow while I try getting my own.

Well small update. I went back to the game store today and flipped through their big book of GB carts (like if they where baseball cards, lawl). End up just getting Gargoyle's Quest. Sadly they didn't have darkwing duck anymore and I totally forgot to check if they still had Duck Tails 2. =/

If lighting is an issue then a GBC will be hopeless. You will want some kind of backlight.

What did you use to test if it blurred or not? I recommend Contra - Operation C and seeing if you get blur that makes projectiles hard to see while the screen scrolls. I'm just skeptical. All I can say for sure from experience is the GB and GBP suffer from blurring which is most evident in certain faster paced games like Contra. GBASP obviously doesn't but those are the only models I own. The GBASP is sweet for its size and screen but I don't find it comfortable to hold.

I've thought about looking into butchering a GBASP and GBC to try to shoehorn the GBASP into a GBC case. Too much work though. I've also hear about people putting the white led lighting from a GBASP model 001 into a GBC. But i would hate to butcher a GBASP for that.

Oh you should definitevely get a GB Light, it's super sweet to play it at night and has all the nostalgic factors you are looking for :D

About it being JP-only, it does not really matter for the carts but only for the fact of getting it, there's usually one or two on eBay at US $100 give or take.

Dunno about the blur factor though, I haven't had any issues with it, but I haven't played any fast paced games as Contra as Mottzilla said.

Ooo I found two new GB games to get (that i've never played)
    1. Mole Mania (Shiggy was the producer on it)
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mole_Mania
    2. カエルの為に鐘は鳴る / For the Frog the Bell Tolls
GB ARPG that came pre zelda GB.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaeru_no_Tame_ni_Kane_wa_Naru

Mole mania got a USA release so still trying to track down a copy (haven't tried ebay yet). The other never made it out of japan so I have a bid for a box copy going on yahoo. I'm also trying to secure off yahoo a boxed GBC, GBP and loose GBL (that looks in decent shape). Have to cross my fingers on those three. why all 3, GBP i'll leave at work, GBL i'll use at home and GBC is for when I eventually cave and move on from GB to GBC games. =P

Bit of an update. So I got some stuff in from japan today (but not all of it).

Little sad the Black GB Pocket I got was more beat up then imagined (not horrible but there are scratches on the screen and there seems to be some minor issues on the screen (ie vertical lines that are a bit darker then others). The more I play the more I get use to it and I also didn't pay a whole lot for it (came with box/papers in great shape though). Man Pocket screen is really hard to see with out a light blasting near by at home. I think I really badly need to get a GB Light (every auction I tried I kept loosing and they go for a lot).

I did get a GB Color today too but I'm on the fence about it. It's a boxed new unit (clear see through model) that only has some slight damage inside the box and the original batteries removed (for good reason). The thing was kind of expensive (7k yen) and I question if I should play it as i'm bound to rough it up, but I did get it for playing and not collecting. =/ I think i'll cave as I bought some screen protectors today to apply on it so I don't scratch it up.

I got a decent chunk of games today (will list tomorrow). Right now playing "For the Frog the Bell Tolls" and really liking it. I'm also putting some time into namco collection 3 for Sky Kid. In a good 3-6 weeks i've got a package with 200 games in it (lots of duplicate pokemon due to it being two 100 lot purchases, will sell the dups & games I don't want after I get & clean them).

Indeed, the pocket screen is not the best one. There was a reason for all those weird lights/magnifying glasses that were sold...
I just recently dug out my GB pocket with the only game i still have, Kirby´s Dreamland 2. Which is a cool game...
Another awesome but also frustrating game back in the day was Alleyway, a good Arkanoid clone. I still remember how my father in law used to play it for hours, occupying my Gameboy. :fresh:

BTW: Has anyone ever seen/heard of a supposedly US cart of Kirby 2 (code is: DMG-AKDE-USA, Made in Japan, US artwork) that has the japanese title screen? And the weird thing is, i could swear it was the US version a few years ago, as i remember the dancing Kirby title screen very vividly. Can a cart change it´s region just by lying around for a few years in a basement?

Maybe the cart was a fake? I actually have the JPN cart for Kirby 2, great game.

Man I really need to get a GB Light soon. I was really struggling to play last night but Frog Bells (too lazy to type it out) was keeping me glued to the GB Pocket all night. Going to try swapping over to the GBC to see if it's slightly less bad. =/

Ahh the mono GB i remember saving up for months to get one from the indi shop near where i lived. Used to just pick up the domestic games i saw in town before i knew any better but eventually moved onto imports, remember getting rockman world in it's teeny tiny box & falling in love with the box designs.

Few of my all time faves are....

    Burger time deluxe
    Ganbare goemon sarawareta Ebisumaru
Shin SD Gundam knight gaiden (very cool zelda style action rpg, i'd kill to get a boxed mint copy)

JPN boxes are kind of nice. I got 3 of them yesterday with my stuff (Crayon shinchan 2 & 3, and Frog Bell).

I've seen some pictures of that game online. I'm tempted to one day pick it up. Is it really good?

Hmm dunno, cart looks legit to me. Don´t want to hijack your thread, but i hope it´s ok to post these two pics:

The code is different too, DMG-AKDE-USA instedad of DMG-AKBE-USA, i have no idea if that says anything, but it´s not listed here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/gameboy/563276-kirbys-dream-land-2/data

As for the light, here is a cool guide on how to mod a Gameboy pocket:

Yeah it's a really nicely made action rpg. You end up with weapons from the dungeons like zelda that allow you into different areas, basically it's gundam zelda, the cool thing is you get help items from vending machines in the form of cards & they are random unless you goto the card shop & buy specific ones like temp invincibillity. Originally came across it when i was using emulators but eventually got hold of it's full title & looked on ebay, sadly they only ever have carts on there. The only boxed copy i saw was on yahoo & i didn't get to it in time. Theres only one downer to the game & thats the save system, it doesn't have one so you have to rely on passwords to save your progress.

And yes you need a gb light they are the lovliest of the mono gb range :)
