Marilyn Manson does make for good FPS Music. Then you realize he's basically doing David Bowie. Now I wanna shoot up demon's in Doom Hell to Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust.
Descent is an awesome game, but dunno if I'd call it an FPS, it's more like a space dogfight game but indoors. Forsaken is decent too, but I've heard the console versions are not that good.
I'd recommend picking up Quake 4 for the 360. I got mine for $5, and it comes with a remastered version of Quake II that is IMO the best version of the game. Forsaken 64 is insanely difficult, to the point that they re-released it with an adjusted difficulty for the later part of the game IIRC. Also remember Armarines for the N64. Pretty sure you can skip on Daikatana haha. Louise is my favorite character from one of my favorite shows. Almost every like delivered by Kristen Schaal (Voice Actor) is worthy of a laugh.
I'm oddly attracted to Kristen Schaal. Science cannot explain why. I've thought of Getting Quake 4 on 360, there's also a Quake 3 port on XBLA I never got for some reason.
Oh she's amazing. She has a very cute look and an absolutely adorable overbite. I don't know if you've ever seen the show Flight of the Conchords, but she plays a pretty big role in that show. She's obsessed with Bret and Jermaine, the two main characters. Also Eugene Mirman, who plays Gene on Bob's Burgers, has a small role in FOTC. But I'm off-topic haha I own Quake III for the Dreamcast. I'm not crazy about the multiplayer focus, but the game is still a lot of fun in single player. I bet the XBLA version would be the best. DOOM did amass a large amount of controversy back in the day. Very understandable to a certain extent, though. Gory gibs, satanic and demonic imagery, massive amounts of shooting and killing, etc. Also it was one of the first times in Video Games that you the player was just that: you the player. The silent protagonist was id's way of making YOU as a person feel as though you were the doomed space marine. Too bad they can't get away from that concept.
Doom did have alot of Rock/Metal covers as it's music, which made it even more awesome. From what I've been told the PS1 Doom really changes things up, New Music, Doom 2 enemies more levels ect. Then there's Final Doom. I was told even if you have the BFG edition with Doom 3 the 2 PS1 games are worth having.
Is that the way the Saturn DOOM was as well? Final DOOM doesn't get that much love from id anymore. Same with DOOM 64, but that wasn't developed by id. I bought BFG the day it came out, as the DOOM series is in my top 3 favorite series. As a non-pc gamer who only played DOOM 3 on the Xbox, it was an awesome experience. No cut parts, updated graphics and an exceptionally smooth 60 FPS frame rate. Although I wish they would have given you the option to play the old way, I.e. with the flashlight, more darkness, less ammo, etc. I still have dumped days into BFG, almost as much as I did DOOM 3 for the Xbox. In addition, DOOM 3: Ressurection of Evil contains DOOM II master levels, which can be harder to find.
I didn't realize DOOM was on the Saturn until you mentioned it. When I think FPSes on the Saturn I think about the custom Quake Port, Exhumed and the horrible Robotica. I'm not sure what Saturn Doom is like. I'll have to add it to the Saturn wishlist. I forgot about the other Resurrection of Evil version of DOOM 3 on XBOX. When I have a working XBOX again I'm going FPS mad that was THE FPS console. But also it was where the shift from Classic to Modern really began.
Yeah, it wasn't the best port but DOOM was getting ported everywhere for a while there. Oh, absolutely. Xbox FPS games were awesome. Chronicles of Riddick: EFBB, Halo 1, Darkwatch, Warpath, Timesplitters 2, Timesplitters Future Perfect, Men of Valor, MOH: Frontline, MOH: Rising Sun, DOOM 3, DOOM 3: ROE, the list goes on and on. Although I love it, we have Halo 1 to blame for that. 2 weapon system, linear level design, incorporation of vehicles, bland lead characters: these were all started by Halo. Also GoH, you should post your wish list when you make some good headway on it.
I think my wishlist is in the hidden gems thread. Painkiller, that's another one on XBOX I wanted. Wasn't Star Wars Battle Front on XBOX? I need some Star Wars FPSes.
Please give Hexen on N64 a go! Very awesome FPS & plus the local multiplayer is what makes it the BEST Port ever made imho! plus if you plan on getting Doom for the Sega Saturn, get the Japanese copy instead
Man I've always loved dark forces since it came out. I prefer the DOS version but the ps1 port is good too.
Painkiller was a pretty solid port. I don't believe Battlefront is a FPS, you might be thinking of Star Wars Republic Commando. That one was a great squad-based FPS.
Blake Stone was an awesome FPS back in its day. It came out sometime between Wolfenstein 3D and Doom iirc, and was made with a modified wolfenstein engine
I couldn't stand playing the N64 version for more than 5 minutes. Everything was so blurry it made my eyes hurt.
Agreed. Honestly, anyone wanting to play Hexen nowadays should just get a good source port like gzdoom or doomsday and download the hi-res texture pack for hexen. Load your hexen .wad file into said port and you have by far the best way of experiencing hexen (or any other doom engine games).
If you want a Star Wars fps try Star Wars Dark Forces, I've never played it so don't know if it's any good or not. EDIT: Sorry half asleep when I posted this, You said in your first post that Star Wars Dark Forces is on your list.
Have you ever played Blood? It's all of that, cranked up to 11 (but with a more demonic theme than the sci-fi Doom). The physical release is supposedly hard to come by (I got mine at a thrift store for a buck), but it's on GOG if you're down with digital. Duke 3D is on the Saturn too. I don't have it, but I hear it's alright, it supports the analog pad and Netplay. Yes, so was the sequel. They're more third person, but you might be able to play in first person mode. Republic Commando is good too, but the multiplayer maps included in the game are less than stellar.
