Can I join if I say FPS PC games that are older than the first X-Box? ;)

Then you should play Strife. Its a game made in the Doom engine that had some pseudo RPG systems in it. Too bad the rights in that game is in total limbo. :(

Not just that, the source code is supposedly "lost"/lost.

I used to really like No One Lives Forever. It's not that old, though.

Of course it's not a direct port but hacks and stuff, still some Doom ports support Strife. I have native ZDoom-based linux version sitting on HDD right now.

ZDoom and GZDoom support Strife, i think Zandronum and Doomsday may as well, although im not sure about that. I usually use GZdoom to play doom engine stuff.

Yeah that is more of my late 1999-2001 FPS memories....

    Turok 2
    IGI (I'm Going In)
    Soldier of Fortune
    Delta Force
    Thief
    Mortyr

Which, all these games are over 10 years old...

Quake III Arena for the Dreamcast is a pretty solid port, playable with the keyboard/mouse too IIRC.

Resident Evil Gun Survivor is also good enough for me. A lot of Resident Evil fans hate it. But for me it's good enough. :)

Any idea of the advantages / disadvantages of each of those engine ports? I always used Doomsday by the way.

I really like GZDoom. It's highly customizable, so you can do almost anything you want with it. It supports almost any resolution (including widescreen formats), and it has various ways to enhance how the game looks and also how it plays.

Doomsday is a very solid port, but la-li-lu-le-lo summed up everything that makes GZDoom so great. Especially with the HD texture pack and the brutal doom mod, Doom looks flat out beautiful, even today, in GZDoom. If you havent tried it, please download the Brutal Doom mod, words cannot express how great of a mod it is.

Another big reason I use GZdoom is that it supports maps with true room-over-room architecture (in vanilla doom, it was impossible for one room to exist over another, and areas that did have that kind of thing faked it with creative portal usage.). I also use zandronum, due to the fact that it supports online multiplayer, GZdoom format maps (its built using GZdoom as its base, iirc), and always has servers running and populated.

I just got Brutal Doom, and it makes the game as gory as the US Senate thinks it is (HEYOOO)

As much as i love the added blood and gore, i much more enjoy the changes to the weapons. And plus, being able to chainsaw a corpse of a revenant and mancubus (or blow them up) and steal their weapon is awesome.

Also, if anyone is going to download it, i would get v18, until v20 comes out. v19 made a lot of bad changes to the mod that the guy working on it is undoing for v20, lol

    System Shock 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Shock_2

While not technically a FPS, it still rocks. Has some RPG elements, but you do the basic point and shoot to kill stuff.

There has been updated textures and various mods (even one that continues the story after you finish the main game, didn't know about this, going to play it). Will play on Windows 7, but we are talking like 10 year old graphics. Good story, something you don't get in games much.

First few Medal of Honor games were great FPS. You had big areas you could go roam over, no stuck to a path like FPS are these days. I love to play them every few years, think there's about 5 or so like that.

That's a solid one. We had Elite Force in my old clan rotation.
