I know it's been a long time but do you have any specific memories of playing Dee Dee Planet (did you think it was any good? Rubbish?) It certainly seems, well... different! (you did an eval... I guess this means you played it?) No news on 'Far Nation'? That one puzzles me because the first I saw of it was in that flickr album. IIRC was it possibly an online game similar to Phantasy Star? (just trying to jog your memory!) Also... I said it before, but thanks again for taking the time to answer these questions. It's appreciated
At one TGS, they showed original sketches of Phantasy Star.... most notably, the cinematic scenes you see throughout the game. There are pictures floating about the interwebs. Also, some of the Sega Ages 2500 series show some nice original sketches for even older games (Fantasy Zone's & Space Harrier II's come to mind) Are you under the impression it's not the standard for them to keep track of all these things so well? What about source code? EDIT:
i second this DonnyK you should podcast this even have themes to keep discussion flowing SEGA the E-true Hollywood story LOL
Odds are, that was a member of the original dev team that had it. Kind of like how I held onto Geist and Sonic Xtreme because they were going to be thrown away. The company itself doesn't do a good job of keeping track of this stuff. When they made Smash Pack for the Dreamcast... they downloaded roms off the internet.
I know you said you didnt have much to do with jp/eu games but still I have to ask about gunvalkyrie and agartha.Did you ever see any of the two up and running? If you did what were they like?Iam especially interested to see if you knew anything about the dreamcast version of gun valkyrie(its a personal favorite) , as it was revealed in Europe first during ects despite being made by smilebit.According to some reports there was some sort of footage but no one cared enough to capture it =(.
I just awoke from an SMS (grr!) to find this in my inbox: http://www.donnyk.com/ A very nice Dreamcast styled website from a self confessed fan. It also states most of the text is in dutch as it is for school. It is mostly a flash based site but the loss of copy and paste does not perevent th use of Babelfish as I typed everything in there by hand and clicked translate There is a work portfolioo which mostly neglects anything done for or on behalf of Sega, just a few projects here and there. Also hiddenish links to donnyk.homelinux.com The homelinux site appears to have been cleaned out but there are numerous refrences to it over the years in various sega fansites amongst others. There are pictures of a 'Sega trip' in 2003 http://www.donnyk.com/segatrip/ and a 'Sega Event' too http://www.donnyk.com/sevent2k3-1/fotos.html Whois Server Version 2.0 Domain names in the .com and .net domains can now be registered with many different competing registrars. Maybe, maybe not DonnyK is not as unique name as you would think but I doubt most people would use it. That said there is bound to be more than one and our DonnyK is probably the real deal. The Dreamcast love is quite clear too, but again it could mean nothing, or something, but what? :S
Why not just ask questions instead of trying to derail? We're talking about video games. It's supposed to be fun. Yeah, this seems to be par for the course these days. So many bad "packs" on the PS2. For shame.
Seems funny when it's you saying that.. -My question: Any idea what happened to Free Runner (Saturn)?
DonnyK, I understand that you're getting out of the video game industry. Would you be able to share why?
The rumours are true. I bought and sold the GD-R before you joined. I never dumped it, I'm not sure anyone ever did and I cannot even remember playing it or who I sold it to so can't help you much there I'm afraid.
He was here just over a month ago: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?p=462227#post462227 *EDIT* Someone said he has no intention of selling elsewhere, IIRC.
That is beyond a crazy coincidence. And it's not me. Moving cross country to be back with my family. The game industry is very region specific.
Actually I do remember booting it now but not playing it much. I can't estimate how complete it was as I don't recall attempting to thoroughly play test it nor played it on any other format. I do remember starting some levels and discussing it, but the old threads probably got lost as I can no longer find them sorry I cant even remember who sold it to me otherwise I'd see if they could comment on it, though I would politely ask you do not harass the current owner. No worries wombat already addressed this issue though it is nice to hear it from the horses mouth
Yeah and the current owner isn't interested in trading or selling (from talking to him about a year ago or so) :/ Bummer.
