Sure! I'm slowing down on putting stuff up cause it's been so much work. It's kind of like a second job. I still have about 60 more promotional shirts to sell :( One shirt ended for $91 so I was happy about that.

Yeah, there are a lot of things I can't sell on eBay so that big lot of stuff will be sold here.

While I was there during PSO ver.2, I was knee deep in Sonic Adventure 2 and there was way more pressure on me because it was a flagship title so I only got to see PSO ver.2 while passing by other people's cubes. Anything you mentioned would have been in a Japanese beta before we saw it at SOA. Two of my best friends were core testers on it. Btw, they never got to level 200 while it was in test and Japan never, ever told us about the rare items so we didn't test the vast majority of them.

    Nope.

In between jobs at Sega I worked at 3DO... on the 3DO system (I know, showing my age) and that was near the end. Got to see the M2, my friend actually has one he took off a desk when they closed but there was never any talks with Sega.

I don't suppose there was ever any talk of the localised version of the Saturn Grandia or shining force 3 scenario 2/3? I mean the Saturn was already rather faded away by their release but I have to wonder if they were thought about for the US/EU.

Then those took place at SOJ where I wasn't around. There wasn't any talk about this in the US offices.

Yeah, it would cost too much money to localize them so they weren't considered and Vic and the Working Designs guys had moved on to PS1 development at that point.

    apologies for re-asking this

but were there talks with MS for the XBOX to support dreamcast games but it fell through because MS wouldn't let LAN access to DC games?

No problems on the reasking as I miss a lot of questions... not ignoring them. A VP at the time told me that there were talks for Dreamcast games to run on the Xbox but his reasoning is that there wasn't any time to get something like that up and running. It would have taken a lot of time and effort to get it going and neither party cared that much about it. While it was a great idea, it just wasn't feasible at the time. Remember, this was the before the Sammy merger and Sega was SUPER broke.

I had a meeting in Smilebit's Japanese headquarters and they showed me a super early version of JSRF running on an Xbox... I don't think there was a Dreamcast version.

Very interesting thread indeed, thanks for all the info !

My questions would be related to dreamcast development kits:

    - Which DC devkits do you know / did you work with ?
The ones that are well known for the moment:
    SET 2
    SET 4
    SET 5.16
    SET 5.24
Did you use other hardware ?

    - Would you know what this Sega PCI card could be / Would there be a way to check what it is, based on the references 837-13338, 171-7595A ?

Were you one of the ones that thought "Grind" worked better than "Set" in JSR/JGR title? :D This one really irked me. Huge fan of the game. What was Smilebit's "vibe" when you had your meeting with them? I imagine it being like a step child you, and apparently only you are proud of. I think both games in the series encapsulate what I loved about the old Sega. Chances of a sequel now? Yeah, right.

    Hello,

I like to thank you donnyk, for coming here and aswering all those questions, there are things like virtua fighter 3 on saturn that i never thought that would exist.

Now that you comfirmed that Virtua Fighter 3 had really existed in saturn, do you know something about Scud Race for saturn or Dreamcast? it was developed at some level or was just a tech demo? why it existed in dreamcast or saturn, why wasn't it released?

    Thanks

It was changed from "set" to "grind" for legal reasons. Someone had a Jet Set trademark but for some reason they were able to get around it for Future. No one liked "grind" at SOA and we were bummed we had to change it but blame the lawyers. The Smilebit guys were great and I loved them... and they loved me. Gave me a bunch of cool promo stuff and signed a bunch of games for me.

Stupid question, but what happened with 32x ;I remember as a kid that several magazines announced all these upcoming games (castlevania, street fighter, darkstalkers, etc) yet only 30 something came out ;What it really that bad in sales?

Thanks for helping build our memories and thanks for your time here!

Wow, that's great to know. I always hated that title. I always thought it was b/c "grind" was one of those cheesy catch phrases.

And, glad to see that you got a hold of some cool Smilebit stuff. I had a few promo items here... I think I got rid of most though, due to space. I did keep my Jet Set Radio / JSRF posters that I found a few years ago. I've never seen them since, even!

One, the whole West Side Story bit I've never seen:

I assume this is the UK release due to the blue logo?

And this one just cooler than words:

Is this the same disc/seller from 5 years ago, ie is it you and yours DonnyK? Or are there more than one non-booting discs? You would think as yours is numbered #7 at least 6 more exist and one should work =/ Of course it would be nice to find a way to boot it but still if there is no bootable version after 5 years it may never boot :(
