Version 2.00 of the Everdrive 64's operating system has been released, and it's fantastic! It does NOT work with version 1 of the Everdrive 64, so unless you have a v2 then you can't use this update (but this update is enough to make v1 owners want to buy a version 2!). The list of new features and improvements include 1)Completely new OS was made from zero 2)New FPGA core 3)Faster SD interface. Now trasfer speed up to 23Mbyte/s 4)GameShark cheats. 5)IPS/APS patches support 6)Auto cheats loading. 7)Auto IPS/APS loading 8)Forcing of TV mode in the game. It may help to run some PAL games in color with NTSC system 9)New menu interface 10)Auto CRC fix. May help to run some hacked roms with bad checksum 11)Menu supports two resolutions 320x240 and 640x480. Probably will be useful for some RGB moded systems which blinks in 640x480 mode 12)New controller PAK manager 13)Controller PAK auto backup function 14)40 Winks works with NTSC systems in color 15)Some other minor improvements 16)Copying data from file to file, right in menu. To make some extra copy of saves, for example 17)File byte swapping. Useful for emulator save files converting 18)Menu supports analogue stick Unfortunately ED64 v1 is not supported any more. Get it from http://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=1035.0 Note: A bug is affecting some users - for some people, when you turn on the N64 with an Everdrive 64 running v2.00 OS, then the N64 stops dead with an error message saying Error 0xC0 DISK Init to bypass this, just press RESET on the N64.
I myself get the error , the reset button fix works but you have to do it everytime you power down the 64. Hopefully this will be fixed.
Holy cow, cheat support!!! My friend and I went through 3 or 4 Gamesharks back in the day, haven't done cheats on console since. What a glorious day, so cool he's still updating. Slightly less glorious for me though, because I found out I have v1. :\ Zero problem upgrading for this, but can't do it at the moment.
Fucking sucks I have v1 with no fucking way to run this... Guess that's what I get for being a first buyer of the ED64 when it was very first released.
If you really need to cheat with ed64 v1, you could try my alternative dev menu :> but it has some bugs ^^ maybe krikzz is just using chillywillys gameshark engine in his os, too. alt64_beta2.7z 4.11.2013
New OS works great for me. Tetris64 is running for the first time, and also 40 Winks in color. Of course, I get the disk init. error at startup, but I'm sure that will be fixed quickly. I wonder how that got by krikzz since it so persistent? (Every cold boot) Also, for some reason some of my ROMs are out of order. I thought the EverDrive automatically sorted them, but I guess not. How can I fix this? That's cool you've got #1. Keep the shell, sell the v1 PCB and replace it with a v2 PCB then you'll still be #1
Your controller pak backup/restore program would be very useful to v1 owners too; http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?41396-release-Mempak-Tool-for-the-ED64 It's true that OS v1.29 does much of what your program does, but your program lists what saves are on the controller pak, which OS v1.29 doesn't. I think you're probably right about the Gameshark code, it is incomplete in features and compatibility, but hopefully it will be improved over time. Will you still be working on your OS? Competition is good for the end user, especially if you and Krikzz end up trying to outdo each other with your respective OSs!
Just asking, but can anybody confirm if animal forest is working? I dont have a everdrive, so i cant check it.
I updated today, sam error with the Reset Button. But a second Failure by starting Roms. The wont start and the Everdrive displays "Bad CRC" With the new Version only a few Roms are working.
None of my games start. Either I get a Bad CRC-message or the following: ERROR 0xF9 FAT System Error. Edit: Just tested with 1.29. Everything works fine.
Am still on 1.28, which does me fine and I reckon its best to wait and see how it pans out for a bit, as it might contain further bugs that are yet to be found. Especially, if the OS is built from scratch. If it aint broke, dont fix and only update if you really need to or until its stable enough, as this seems to be quite buggy at present. Edit:- Reading posts over at krikzz.com users are having issues with saves from 1.29 on the 2.0-2.1 OS. Apparently, they have to be renamed in order to work still plus others issues with file order of roms.
This is from Krikzz over at his site "Sometimes need to drop the burden of the legacy, it helps to move forward. V1 and V2 is not fully compatible on software level, so i can't just use code from v2 for v1 without spending time on adaptation and double testing. V2 Has much more flexible architecture" http://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=1035.15
Why? Krikzz doesn't owe you (or anyone) anything. As long as the item you bought (the ED64, in this case) did what it was supposed to (which it does, it runs N64 games from an SD Card), then legally and morally he's completed his side of the deal (and you completed yours by paying your money for the ED64). Krikzz isn't obliged in any way to improve the item that you bought and now own, and if he does choose to do so then that's his decision. Yes, it's unlucky for you that he has made an update that won't work on older ED64s, but we don't have the right to expect him to issue updates for the ED64 (or any Everdrive, be it for the SNES, Megadrive, etc), and he is doing whatever updates he does for no payment at all, remember.
This. I feel like if ikari doesn't end up releasing superfx support, there will be similar backlashes. Krikzz isn't trying to screw anyone over, here. He does a lot of work for everyone, producing all of his EverDrives (and also the sd2snes) and writing software for each one, and even fixes hardware issues for free (minus shipping). I think its a bit unfair to get so upset after all he offers and does for the community when it comes to flash drives.
