I see GaijinPunch's point about "whole set" collecting and agree with it. If you actually look through an entire ROM set for some systems there are so many turd games that aren't worth phsyically having to someone that's primarily buying games for gaming. I don't know about the rest of you but when I buy a game I intend to play it. I don't have the money to collect everything, including the "turd games".

But, if I did have a ton of money, I can understand how it would be fun to try to collect every game you possibly can for a system, atleast if you particularly love that system. I have a friend that is trying to collect every single NES game. I forget how many he has now, but counting duplicates he has over 200 I believe. He obviously really likes the NES and wanted to collect everything and has the money and time to do so.

I think GaijinPunch was just saying how he personally considers buying "turd games" or games he doesn't want to play a poor use of money. He'd rather spend it on something he'd enjoy, which I totally agree with.

I would love to spend alot of money to build up my game library with a bunch of games I think are good and I enjoy and eventually I will. But I don't think I'll ever just buy every single game for a system. No game system has a set of games that any one person could like all of them. :O

I guess my biggest fear of collecting something like the NES is the upkeep and keeping them from going bad. Of course, they will go bad one day. When is anybody's guess. Can you imagine keeping those boxes in top shape? A lot of work.

It's damn near impossible for a sane person to keep NES boxes in decent shape. I don't have a single one left from when I was a kid...then again...I'm pretty sure I tossed the boxes and just kept the manuals.

Still, I won't buy a boxed NES game today...(unless its a ludicriously good deal). You can't play the games as well as keep them in the boxes...the box gets destroyed...

...And the boxes for NES games? What do you do with them anyway? Align them on a shelf, spine facing outward? What's the point? Nobody sees the art...just the side of the box...

Nowadays I do my best to keep cardboard box games neat. I've done okay with N64 and Great with GB...but I was fairly young when N64 came out...and some of those boxes look a little bit slanty.

So, I guess I throw myself into the "buy games to play them" boat. I keep my games nice...very nice...but in the end, I'd rather play the hell out of them and share them with others (one of the main reasons I buy games).

I completely agree.Same goes for Famicom boxes, and SNES ones..SFC are slightly better condition ones (though they're not as old as NES ones)
On this point, Sega did so much better with SMS and MD/Genesis solid boxes :)

Too bad about the cardboard 32x/Genesis boxes, though. Come within 10 feet of them and they collapse in upon themselves.

Lets be fair a couple of the Japanese third party 32X games came in plastic boxes. And two Megadrive games came in Cardboard boxes too (4 if you count the two unofficial Japanese hentai games).

Well if you're talking megadrive then loads did. (Accolade etc)

If you mean jp games (Which I'm assuming you do) there are more than 2 that came in cardboard boxes..Doraemon, Pro Striker Perfect & Tap set, Lethal Enforcers..although again I'm guessing you didn't mean those 3...so which 2, my brain isn't working (despite the fact I'll probably own them lol)

My brain is working too.. :)
Doraemon has solid box INSIDE the deluxe set,so maybe...
& Pro Striker Perfect does have a solid box inside the "tap set" as well..

Lethal Enforcers never had any box for the cart.

I did mean Lethal Enforcers and Sonic and Knuckles (which neither of you got shame on you). Doraemon does come in the large box with the pencils and such with it (although no one can tell me whether they all did or whether it was a special edition) but it was in a plastic case and Pro Striker Perfect again came in a cardboard box but the game was in a plastic box.

NFL Quarterback Club '95 on the 32X came in a Plastic box and I'm 99% sure the WWF RAW on the 32X did too.

    Gosh, i forgot Sonic&Knuckles :)
I got Doraemon "simple" game before getting it with deluxe srt,but it seems it has only been sold "limited"...i just got a copy from someone who kept the goods.

But if we follow your idea about Pro Striker Perfect, then we must not count it.

WWF Raw 32X is plastic boxed..3 JPN 32X games are!
    WWF Raw
    NFL Quaterback Club'95
    NBA Jam Tournament Edition
(strangely, all acclaim japan games :)

Ah but noone said anything about an internal plastic box disqualifying them :)

After all, if you want a full JP MD set you are going to have to own and look after a cardboard box with your Doraemon, and a carboard box with your PSP tap set. I appreciate I'm being extremely literal in my interpretation though!

And LE did have a carboard box, albeit that the cart just sits on polystryrene inside! (again I'm being very literal in my interpretation)

See above re Doraemon and PSP. ;)

I got LE btw, shame on you for not reading! Can't believe I forgot about S&K though, shame on me!

WWF Raw 32x (jp) does come in a plastic box. I think NBA does too but I could be confusing it with the pal version (and cba to check)

    :icon_bigg (re NBA)

Although MK2 is Acclaim too and that's cardboard! I guess they changed it for their later games. We all know how low budget quality their late JP MD games were..I mean on NFL they just stuck stickers on the Pal insert! How poor is that. At least on MC et al they reprinted the UK inserts with a bit of jp instead!

I'm sure I did write in NBA JAM TE, but it looks like I didn't. My excuse is that it is 4am out here when I wrote it. :D I'm sure Acclaim must have had hundreds and hundreds of plastic boxes sitting around and it's cheaper to use a sleeve then a printed cardboard box. Acclaim seem to like cutting costs with Japanese games.

With Doraemon and Pro Striker Perfect the arguement goes that you can put the game boxes on the shelf, where you can put the cardboard boxes away safely and never worry about them again, where as Sonic and Knuckles and Lethal Enforcers you can't. Then again I buy games to play (every so often) and if I wanted to have something nice to look at that would keep it's value then I would buy a painting. :D

From another board about Rockman 4 Gold.

"The Rockman 4 gold carts were awarded to those who won the "Rockman 4 Robot Master Contest", a contest sponserd by Capcom of Japan to put kids' Robot Master designs into RM4.

Besides the gold cart itself, is the game any different than the regular "orange" RM4? Nope. The game is exactly the same as the one we've all played time and time again."
