Had a quick search for a few pce titles and couldn't find much. Figured I'd start a thread about the heavier side of pce madness.

So name those disgustingly rare items that exist. Name the games in your collection that are htf. Discuss etc.

So to kick off...some (but by no means all) seriously rare pce goodies I know of

Youkaidouchuuki (Tales of Monster Path) - the version that comes in a gold coloured case (not the common as muck standard release)

Power League Special - the rarest of the Special Hu-cards, 200 copies apparently. Came in its own special sleeve. (Foolishly turned one down for E500 a while back and haven't seen it for less than twice that since:()

Cosmic Yakyuuken Kanzenban - a baseball game with the characters from Cosmic Fantasy. Never seen this one for sale:(

    Life Active Network

Games I have sitting proud in the collection

    Darius Alpha
    Renny Blaster
    Sapphire
Bazare de Gozarre - a NEC Fanclub game. 1000 copies only (can anyone confirm this as I have 2 sealed copies)
    TV Show
    Madou Monogatari
Motteke Tamago - got a full release on the Saturn:), great fun.
Shogi Database - crap Mahjong game
    Go! Go! Birdie Chance
    Dead of the Brain

In general I just love pce collecting. Of the consoles I collect for it is certainly the most challenging. MD and SS are easy really, Neo I find is just a money thing (as opposed to an availability issue (save the odd US title)). But pce is just tough, and I love it. Finding mint copies of rarer games is tough, finding mint sealed copies a mare at times (but I am very anal on condition). Its one of those consoles that really tickles my collector's fancy. The thrill of receiving an unplayable/unintellible, expensive and mint pce game is second to none for me.

And of course I just love the pce as a console to play on.

  2. I don't see those Bomberman tournament cards very oftern...

  3. There's always an authentic copy of Space Fantasy Zone. ;) Dracula X isn't really as rare as the prices make it out to be, but it's a good addition to any PCE collection - especially if you could afford Sapphire. ;) And wasn't Tatsujin a bit of a rare one as well?

Either way, let's see some pictures of this collection, eh?? :-D

Oh, I have Dracula X. I don't think its overly rare, just as you say. It can be priceyish as its very in demand! Curse these gamers who like good games and drive up the prices:)

I'll try and get a piccie or two up later tonight, although, sad as this sounds it'll just be of some of the pricier games. My pce stuff (as wiht most of my stuff) is in no great order so its bits and bobs everywhere...except for the pricey stuff which is all in one 'fire' drawer near my door..conveniently placed so that if the worst ever happens (fire, flood etc) I can bloody shift my arse AND save some quality games:)

Don't forget the gold Ye ar kung fu right? That's up there on the list...

There's a few web sites with better pce infos, perhaps some links for the people here, I don't really follow "collecting" scene sites or rarity lists.

I'm curious to see this collection as well.

I wouldn't even know how to determine PC Engine rarity. Bottom line, everything for it is expensive, and games don't come up for sale that much in the US.

I've got Sample CD of the following games:

    - World Heroes 2
    - Art Of Fighting
    - Fatal Fury 2
    - Legend of Xanadu
    - Mad Stalker

Some of them are teh full game like legend of xanadu but for instance mad stalker is just a sample taste of the game.

I have a few magazines and demo CDs but they are not that uncommon.

I wasn't being critical, no way:). This place is fantastic. Nice folks aside, I've learnt more here in a month than I have in the last few years. (got a good fix of snes cd talk earlier on)

Back to topic, here's a piccie. The top 2 rows are all sealed:), open copies (not sapphire or brain) tucked away. It certainly represents most/all my pce games that make me smile as a collector. Nothing too rare though. I know there are still lots of big pce fans, and all the very limited stuff must be staying put (the few items whose whereabouts I know are never leaving their respective collections). Perhaps I'm not looking hard enough, but I've seen lots of people selling up, say neo, saturn, but not too many pce collectors. Loyal to the little beauty are we. Still I love all the digging around, and you can emeet some great people too (as with all things really, meh)

    Nothing too rare?????

You've got a bucketload of the rarest PC engine games.......over half of which are sealed!

I do agree with you on PC engine collecting. I'm doing rather pathetically at the moment, but it is a fun systewm to collect for - Its got original, interesting games, Great mid-eighties arcade conversions, and while some games are expensive, you can get a good collection playing no more than £10 per game.

I keep my M2 along with other rarities in a fire proof safe . Good to see other collectors doing similar things to protect rare video games.

You've got quite a few rarities there I'd love to own - I'd possibly trade a few toes and one of my pinkie fingers for a copy of Sapphire and Dracula X, but then again I still need to find a CD unit for my SuperGrafx...

I do understand your comment about games that make you smile as a collector - I've got a few of those myself. My copies of Sin & Punishment and Doubutsu No Mori on N64, my Supergrafx and Gradius, Sakura Taisens I and II on Saturn or Ikaruga and Rainbow Cotton on Dreamcast - none of which are particularly rare or hard to find, but they're the little things that you enjoy playing, enjoy displaying when not playing, and that's pretty much what collecting's all about right? :)

Nice collection wheela. Does Darius Alpha have better graphics when played on a Super Grafx?

Thanks for the nice comments chaps:) Its good when people don't resort to peurile stuff like 'stop willy waving', 'show off' etc. I'm so passionate about pce its untrue.

When I said nothing too rare I am refering to that super top tier of rareness, of which sadly I have nothing. Don't get me wrong, I'm so happy to have what I have, and am fortunate enough to have found it. But you know the kind the stuff...Rockman 4 Gold Cart for the fc, Euro Kizuna Encounter etc, hell not even anything as rare as say Waltz Heim or Eyeful Home (one of which is 50 only, I forget which) And sure, obviously if things are that rare then not many people have 'something'...but by the same token there is a lot of that kind of stuff for the pce ie a lot of very rare items, perhaps more than for most other systems(?).

I mean aside from what I mentioned above I can think of lots more:

The legendary sample hucard - says press start instead of press run too when you load it up (gags at this babies value)

    Tanjou Gekitouhen

    Hi Leg Fantasy

    NHK Maths Indian Adventure.......(long name)

Magical Chase CD (I know people who would kill their firstborn just to see proof this exists. We know it does but confirming that is a different matter)

Super real Mahjong (customs discs not for sale)

    PC Cocoron

    Megami Paradise

    etc etc

and that's excluding protos/unreleased stuff. The list is huge:)

Anyway, what about other people here. I know some are into pce for sure, so lets get some gibber going. (I know one member here did a big favour only to have it thrown back in his face:( (by a fool no doubt)).

Don't know tbh, I haven't tried it on an SG. Hell, I sessioned on it for a couple of hours when I got it and since then its been in the drawer:) I know Darius Plus has less flicker, generally looks sharper/clearer on the SG as oppsed to a regular pce. I'll try it out tonight if I remember.

    @ RPA

I'd do the same if I had an M2 I can assure you. Although I must admit my fire drawer is there for pretty much selfish reasons. I wish I could be altruistic enough to say I look out for my rare stuff for the sake of videogames history, but in reality its just a money and time thing tbh, and like I said I have nothing that many other people don't. Now a Magical Chase cd on the other hand...........

Ok...here's my pathetic little PC Engine Collection...

Yeah yeah, I know it's small. I bought a bundle that came with five loose cards (Space Harrier, Legendary Axe, Moto Roader, Barunba, and TV Sports Basketball). Then, I went after Parodius Da! then Final Soldier. Then, strange as it was, I found PCE games in a game store here in the US. That's where I got Drop Off, Baseball 91 and Salamander.

Brief Side story: Theres this game store not too far from where I live where they have practically everything. All kinds of obscure stuff that I never see anywhere else, they have. Problem is though, that I hate shopping there because the prices are absolutely nuts (which is probably why they have so much neat stuff...it's priced too high to sell). I've discovered though that the trick is to ask for prices on items that aren't marked.

It worked really well for me on Salamander. You wait until only the most dimitted employee is around, then ask him for a price. If they don't know...they use the internet (ebay, other stores, etc) if they don't know after that, they call the boss. Of course, the boss doesn't know, so they give you the price. All you have to do is act like you know what you're talking about, and you can talk em down a ton. My favorite thing to say: "Oh, cmon, I think we can do better than that. I'm the only one around here whos going to buy (PCE, TG16, Colecovision, Misc. Atari System, Saturn, Genesis, DC, etc) games anyway." Sad thing is, that it's probably true.

I'm always in the market for new PCE games...hint hint...wink wink!

Edit: Forgive me for having no CD games. There is a Turbo Duo around here...but technically it belongs to my sister (She only has one game for it: Bonk's Revenge). She lets me mess with it, but I'd never buy games for it, because she's fucking crazy. She would take it away if she thought I was enjoying it too much. So sad. I really want Gradius 2.

  18. Isn't that World Stadium Baseball fun? :-D I've got an older version, and I absolutely love it - and I'm not at all a fan of sports games.

I'll try to get a picture up sometime, but my collection isn't much bigger than Blur's. Doesn't mean I don't have fun with it, though.

Akiyamajin is kind of the holy grail for commercially released PC-Engine games. If you want the whole run down on the PC-Engine, go to PC-Engine Paradise. It's in the links section of Japanese Gaming. Yuki is pretty much the biggest PC-Engine fan out there. There's very little for the system he doesn't have.
