That's still the Spiderman3 font, albeit in an abbreviated form. The "new" font seems to be an italic and rounded version of the PS2 logo font.
Besides the font, I kinda like it. Though without some sort of a stand, I don't see this being able to stand up very well without tipping over. Still, I like my white import PS3, and won't ever get rid of it. Sure it's a grill, but it's a beautiful grill. Lastly, I've learned with Playstation products, that I used to have a tendency to want to switch to the newer model, but then I..years later, have a tendency to always go buy an older model as it's what touches me most in nostalgia.
could you kindly post a picture of your white PS3 in its natural habitat? I m impressed by the promotional images but can't quite imagine it fitting as nicely as the black one next to most current TV sets - unless it's one of the canvas-like Bravias (mostly white around with a black outline)
Thanks bud I thought so. I realized I couldn't play my DVDs on it though, so I went ahead and got a HDMI out DVD player for 25 bucks at Big Lots lol. Not my dream setup, but hey.. it works, and I love the color so much it's worth the hassle. I guess I'm just sick of black and I wanted my PSP to match my PS3 .
I assume that Korean model's can't do DVDs? or was it a regional thing? What are the insides? Full Ps2 emu? Software PS2 emu, or no PS2 emu?
If you get a model either get the American or the Japanese. That way you'll be able to use Blu-ray disks. If you get the "asian" version, all you'll be able to do is play games on it. It's the worst option, and it's why it's always cheaper than the rest. The Japanese one won't allow you to play DVDs, but at least you get the newer format to play.
what's the argument for not having multimedia functions such as DVD in the JP version and no BD/DVD at all in the "asian" version? That just cuts the value in half!
Haha yea really. Yet the Asian ones usually only go for about $50 less than the Japanese ones. I guess they hope to trick people on ebay who just don't know any better. Oh, also, the PS3 (Asian or Japanese) won't play PS1 games at all from North America. Though while that sucked, it did lead me to buy my two debug units.
I have a Hong Kong PS2 20GB model from launch and it plays DVDs and BD just fine. It also has full PS2 hardware and PS1 ability as well. Perhaps you're talking about the newer Asian models...but mine does everything (and more than most PS3 models these days) with the exception of wifi...which I don't use anyways.
I did some research on ze google and found out that the Korean model 80GB model is/was exactly like the european 60gb in terms of features, including software emulation for PS2.
According to the-magicbox: - Sony has recently registered Emotion Engine Emulation Technology for Cell Processors for patent protection in US, which seems to indicate Sony maybe planning to re-introduce PS2 backward compatibility to PS3. also: RUMOR: Joystiq reported that two Taiwanese firms Foxconn and Pegatron have signed manufacturing deal with Sony, to build Sony's new slimline PS3. The units are expected to start shipping in early July to cope with expected summer vacation demands. I m looking forward to PS2 compatibility more than anything. I ve got quite a few PS2 gems to play and no desire to hook up the ole' PS2 since my TV has a PS3 sitting under it.
Why can't Sony just do it right the first time? They come out with a fat design, and insane price range, and charge you for backwards compatibility. Then they come out with slimline and fix all the flaws when all they had to do was do the original design as such. I mean its really no better than what Microsoft did with its Xenon motherboards, Game companies use customers as their public beta tester (Microsoft being no stranger) but Sony seems to be the only ones putting out bulky consoles than slimming them down a few years later for reasons I don't understand, if they only did it the first time... Anyone else seeing a most useless and redundant pattern here? I mean if you get it right the first time you wont need a revision. -lllsondowlll
@lllsondowlll A lot of the reason the consoles get smaller is due to the improvements in manufacturing processes that happen over the years. I'm sure that when the PS3 came out there was no way they could fit it in a smaller container and have adequate cooling. Same thing with the PS2. The PS2 fat was a beast, but as time went on they could make the EE with a smaller process, which reduced heat output and increased power efficiency. Its not so much "not doing it right the first time", as it is "taking advantage of improvements in manufacturing technology" If I'm wrong here, someone please feel free to correct me.
You are most correct about the PSX/PS1 models but when the ps2 came out bare in mind the "slim" technology was pretty much out of its birthing stage, the ps2 slim added a network card into the slim model that was a add on you had to buy for the fat model. The PS3 has no excuse at all, They have the power supply built right inside, all they did for the slim was remove the power supply to external (I'm guessing, otherwise they have some serious powerful internal micro PSU) and use slimmer technology that has been around for quite a while that sony just decided to pick up and optomize. There hasn't been any publiclly known technological and manufacturing jumps in slim technology that would affect the PS2/PS3 in anyway. The technology has been around since laptops and pretty much I think Sony is trying to cut production costs at launch and then when they rake in the doe they start spitting out more expensive slimmer hardware which makes me angry because by the time they issue out the new revisions most everyone who values Sony is left with a Bulky piece of hardware and the left over curious customer get the slims. I would love to see Sony's marketing plan for all this. It just doesn't make sense to me.
Well the "fat" PS2 had the power supply inside (something i dislike) and an empty space for the HDD. That alone takes some space. But honestly, i don't care much about size really. I would prefer better components and decent cooling any day.
