Yeah hopefully the cut costs of a smaller footprint might bring back some funds for BC. OT: Is it true that all PS3's can play PS1 games? I heard someone say that yesterday.
Funny that Sony can slim down the PS3 this soon and microsoft is still stuck with it's original design and still fighting RROD issues. LOL Twmify, Yes all PS3 can run PS1 games since they now run off the internal emulator. So really no need for Ps1 hardware. Rumor is that Sony will eventualy implement a pure PS2 emulator on the system insted of putting hardware back in (mostly so they can start selling us ps2 games over psn, personaly lets hope the psp2 is powerful enough for portable ps2 games ).
I really hope it's fake because it looks f*cking ugly. I mean it's cool that they managed to shrink it tthat much, but I just don't like how it looks.
it looks so cheap that I laughed - cheaper than my 360's plastic, on par with the Slim PS2, and that says a lot about reliability in my book - you're entitled to your own view so don't argue.
Hey, you'd be able to answer me this....so the PS1 games run off of an emulator? I was going to buy a PS3 for the whole PS family of stuff, and use PSN for PSOne classics....are those just iso type things, or are they emulated? Like, is there any difference in those vs the discs?
i'm sure it's fake, Sony will never release something this ugly, probably just a chinese knockoff that plays Tetris :>
It's pre-production plastic. The same thing happend with the PSP 3000 case leak last year. They didn't have the final finish to them and looked like cheap plastic replacement cases vs what the final unit looks like. Don't be stupid Barc0de. =) Ps1 games on PS3 are run by a system emulator. To play PS1 games you either have to purchase them through PSN or use PS1 disc. PSN versions are just the ISO bundled in a special file. The emulator it self is embeded in the PS3's firmware. Sadly by Disc form, Ps1 games are region locked to the system (ie, NTSC-J will only work on Japanese PS3, NTSC-U on USA PS3, you get the picture). PSN version how ever are not region locked (I think due to some licensing agreement they can get away with it) so you can purchase Japanese PS1 games off the Japanese PSN store and it will stil work on a UK or USA PS3. This is actualy somewhat nice since Japan has alot of awsome PS1 games on the Store (FF7, FF Tactics, Resident Evil 1-3, Metal Gear Solid, ...). Only thing missing that I wish they would add would be GT1 & 2 or Parasite Eve (maybe they will).
Well, I m improving thanks to my clever and polite friends on the boards =) be it as it may, I m not sure I d like the case even if it was shinny. That said, I m getting one if they throw PS2 hardware inside it, although I guess at this point only a small fraction of PS3 owners care, and those who did got their mits on the earlier units accross all regions. The main reason I m not one of those owners is that the full hardware PS2 b/c units didn't get a PAL release and well, my PS2 games are PAL.
Nope, Seems the company responcible for manufacturing PS3's in china (Maintek) has had the pictures taken down from the forum they were originaly posted on. Along with this picture that has been posted. It seems like this case is legit (Top is proto of new case, bottom is a real ps3)
I'm more hopeful of future PS2 emulation support and Downloadable PS2 titles via PSN. I was one of the lucky to get a 20GB unit at launch (with ps2 hw) but i'm now unlucky since I don't have the wifi hw in my ps3 (so no PSP multi link up).
multi-PSP link up? please elaborate Indeed, a full suite of PS2 emulation would be a wonderful thing for all of us non-PS2-able folks
