Original chinese BBS pics, already removed: Edit: It's going to be fun watching how this plays out. Sony has already denied the machine rather than issuing a no-comment. E3's in a month... Remember, the slim PS2 was quite a surprise, too. I was at TGS 2004 and my friend said "there's a tiny PS2 on display over there, next to the PSP", and I had never heard of such a thing.
It probably has combined cell / rsx, plus no sub boards. Looks like internal PSU, still a slot jamme..loader. Sony knows they need a $100 price chop. I would say it's priced the same as wii, as they can't touch the 360 yet. It looks like the HDD is removable from the front.
If they got it down to a Wii pricepoint, with GREAT backward compatibility and more reliable components, my God they would fly off the shelf. Of course, they'd still be losing about the same amount of money per console, but gain many more software customers. What a low-priced blu-ray device that would be...
120GB HDD is pretty nice too. I doubt it is CELL & RSX in one package. They are built on different processes. My guess is a 65nm RSX and a 45nm CELL. IBM have been making those since last year, supposedly.
yeah, the PAL 60Gb model has Software side EE and a hardware side GS. i have one of those. For that matter, the PS2 games still run like shit on it. i'll just rather stick to my actual ps2 and a 32" CRT
I love that Mario is giving us a preview of the console in the pictures. Regarding a PS3, I too also do not have one. I am waiting until they release one with good PS2 BC (Backwards Compatibility). If they don't? Well, then Sony won't see any of my money for a PS3 until it drops below $150.
If they dropped the price to Wii levels, they could really gain some serious marketshare. The price is the primary thing holding Sony back IMO.
I predict a $299 price point for the 120GB slim model. As to whether or not that'll be the only SKU model.. we'll have to see.
I'm very much inclined to believe that this is totally legit. Considering the parallels in design between the PSone and PStwo in comparison to the original systems, this looks exactly like I'd expect a slim PS3 to look. Personally, I really like the redesign. If this has full PS2 compatibility I'll be very interested in getting one. Unfortunately I'll have to go to the effort of getting a Japanese system as that's the region of all the PS2 games I'd be playing.
While it would be nice if the PS3 had backwards compatibility intact, I can't really say that it's much of a factor to me. I can see how some people would like to just have one Playstation system, but I think for most of us it's not a big deal to keep the PS2 around. I kept the PSOne around afterall. When it comes down to it, more money for PS2 support alot of people won't use or don't really need, or cheaper product that makes some people annoyed. It would be sweet if they came up with software emulation on the PS3 to emulate the PS2, but I really think that would be too hard for them to pull off. Right now they really need to get back into the game by getting the price point of the PS3 down. Ofcourse, I still won't buy one. Probably not until I decide I want a Blu-ray movie player.
I did, until I co-worker unknowingly opened a door which led to a chain of events that ended up killing it. Why do you ask?
Ya but the PS3 is better than just a Blu-ray player. It plays a game or two that I don't already have on Xbox 360. You know like MGS4.
