ah, this is a bit convincing.. hopefully if true, they will also announce a $100 price cut (i need another ps3)
If it's cheaper, ok. I haven't got a PS3 yet, because there's no way i'll spend 1.500+ Reais on a videogame. If this one is cheaper, the final price here will fall reasonably as well
You guys are dreaming. Unless they can work out software emulation for PS2, you'll never see BC again. Yes PS1 is emulated in software already, and works on all PS3s regardless of PS2 BC.
I'm like most here. I'll get one if it's cheaper. It's main use for me would be Blu-ray and you can find cheaper Blu-ray players than the PS3 out there these days.
If it was cheaper and had PS2 BC, i would pick up another PS3. I sold mine when i realized i really didnt like any of the exclusives for it, I felt like i paid for the system just to be able to play MGS4! Of course, with PS2 BC, on top of my PS2 being dead and the fact the PS3 upscales PS2 games quite nicely ( or so ive heard), it would be worth it to buy the system again.
I'm looking forward to this, and am quite happy that it appears to be true. I haven't got a PS3 yet, because I'm getting one only for GT5 & Team ICO's 3rd game, and whatever else happens to be great. Although I'd get one for either of those games alone, so cheaper price will be welcome. I think the PS3 hasn't caught on like Sony expected a "PlayStation" brand product certainly should. After all, PS2 sold SO well they're still competing with it. This redesign I think will appeal to the masses on an aesthetic level, and be a good new starting point. It feels more like a "PlayStation" - not like a big, black, special, shiny, curvy, luxury item with a Spider-Man font on the side. Oh, and I hope it doesn't have backwards compatibility, to keep cost down. Not even PS1, if it can be avoided. Old games are always best on original hardware, and on the original type of display they were designed for.
This thing almost looks like one of those Hong Kong pirates with a built-in screen. I'm all for it if it means a cheaper PS3 though, you can almost get a 360 and a Blu-Ray player for the going price of a PS3 nowadays, not worth it at the moment.
That's incorrect. I have the PAL 40GB PS3 and there's no PS2 emu. it was the 80GB model that had the half-assed emu, with the GS in hardware and EET in software.
Upscaling would be very handy for us that don't have the space for a CRT. Plus it's really nice to have it all in one, with a wireless controller, etc.
Actually it was the 60Gb model in Europe that had PS2 backwards compatibility wasn't it? i.e the better of the two machines they originally launched here. Thought by the time the 40Gb and 80Gb models came out they stripped it out.
QFT. The games might be "best" on the original console on its original intended display, but for the average person that doesnt have room for a 42" HDTV and a decent sized CRT, or in my case someone whose PS2 died, BC is a huge selling point.
It's not really half arsed. Most games play fine on it. I'm sure it was no small feat getting it to work either.
