After all the long paragraphs about download stuff, I began wondering what it'd look like if you bought a real game. Well, mystery solved hahaha.

KOF '99 is top notch, have fun.

NEOP22020 SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color to Sega Dreamcast communication connector cable

Another item arrived from Japan today. Well I say today, it actually arrived yesterday but I ignored the knock at the door (postman at 1630... seriously?) so it had to be collected from the local depot.

What arrived, I hear you ask?

Well it is my NEOP22020 SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color to Sega Dreamcast communication connector cable, yay! It is unboxed and came with no manual nor any form of instructions, but I don't care about this right now for two reasons. First and foremost I intend to actually use the cable so why would I need a box? Secondly the lack of extras lowered the cost significantly enough to warrant the purchase for the experiment to begin.

    Why this particular cable?

Well... to test the system link between a SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color and Sega Dreamcast duh! I'm thinking about building an adapter to test this with the RS232 port on a Sega Naomi to see if the arcade ports retain the system link feature. This is more of a mid-to long term ambition however as my first priority is to buy and test each compatible game on the Sega Dreamcast first.

Unfortunately I am unable to test the cable as I sold my original monochrome SNK Neo Geo Pocket several years ago. Not to worry though as I have recently bought another albeit a Color version this time, I am merely waiting to receive it. I have several SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color games on the way too so if all goes well I should be able to make a start with my system link adventure next week!

    Update 25th August 2012:SNK NEOP-A2

    Another item arrived today.

What arrived, I hear you ask?

Well it is my Platinum Silver NEOP-A2 SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color, yay! It came boxed (oddly no serial number printed on the box) but incomplete. It also had some weird yellow slime type stuff on the AA battery cover, some damage where someone had forced open the CR2032 battery cover and some of the silver colouring has started to wear off but do I care? No I do not. Why? I did not buy this to be a showpiece, I bought it to be a workhorse!

    Why this particular console?

Well... to test the system link between a SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color and Sega Dreamcast duh! As for this specific NGPC, the price as right - it was a fraction of what pristine systems cost, appeared to be fully functional AND included a mains transformer which made it an ideal candidate for my experiments.

Unfortunately I am unable to test the console thoroughly due to a lack of games, but I do have several SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color games on the way too so if all goes well I should be able to make a start with my system link adventure next week!

Also on a side note: My Japanese Sega Dreamcast was still being somewhat annoying with regards to reading the immaculate The King of Fighters '99 Evolution disc so I had a rummage around, found 3 slain Sega Dreamcasts from my failed modifications (never did get internal VGA to work before I broke my soldering irons... damn you!), removed a dust covered Samsung GD unit from one of them and used it to replace the Yamaha GD unit in my Japanese Sega Dreamcast and now all is running well and noticeably quieter too! I think if I rummage around some more I may find more items to add to my Sega Dreamcast graveyard but for now I can only find three in purgatory...

    ... muahahahahaha!

Well into the progress of finishing my Xbox media center- just bought the official Xbox 5.1 surround sound speaker system locally.

I'm blown away by the quality, really. For a set that's only $200 MRSP it's incredible, plus the dome speaker design really helps with placement. I'm going to wall mount them, and because of the design I don't need to worry about getting the right distance between speakers.
The subwoofer is another thing however. It's massive, so I guess it matches the "Xbox-Huge" perfectly. It seems to be a little more than 2 times the volume of the Xbox, and it cranks out bass in levels I never though was possible. It's default volume of 30 shakes the floor when I play Jazz. Don't even ask me about GTA San Andreas...

    SNK NEOP00230, NEOP00690, NEOP00920 & T-3101M

A batch of items arrived from Japan today.

What arrived, I hear you ask?

NEOP00230 The King of Fighters R-2 by SNK for the SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color.

NEOP00690 SNK vs. Capcom The Match of the Millenium by Dimps for the SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color.

NEOP00920 The King of Fighters Battle de Paradise by SNK for the SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color.

T-3101M The King of Fighters Dream Match 1999 by SNK for the Sega Dreamcast. (missing the registration card stated as included the sale description, which is the main reason I bought from the seller FFS!)

    Why these particular games?

Well if you have noticed a recurring theme with my last few posts, it is to test the system link between a SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color and Sega Dreamcast via the NEOP22020 SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color to Sega Dreamcast communication connector cable.

    Issues

Other than the lack of registration card for one game not much to report. I was a bit suspicious of my registration cards having the same numbers on them at first but I now believe this is the post code for a mailing address which Japan oddly puts at the top.

I haven't had chance to thoroughly playtest and test each of the games yet as preparing the blog to display my new arrivals with pictures etc is quite time consuming. I also think given as these are largely arcade based games I'm going to have to play them with the quality equipment they deserve before I write up a thorough review.

Lastly I'm running out of file attachment space to include pictures of my new arrivals. I've gone back through some of my other pictures, retook and resized them to make room for this post however it may not be enough. I have a feeling I'll be forced to switch to a video blog sooner rather than later, which is something I would personally prefer to avoid doing.

    Updated 29th August 2012

Virtua Tennis 4 @ £4.99 in the Steam sale.

This has come at a really bad time. It is pay day today but I've already had to pay my bills and made several substational purchases which will be blogged as and when they arrive. A friend came to visit and he noticed the game in the Steam sale and wanted to play it immediately. I tried to play him to play Virtua Tennis 2 on my Dreamcast instead but nooo.... though to be fair he will be leaving the country in just over a week on work related travel for a couple of months and he is my main co-op partner so at least I'll be able to play it with him online.

    T-1217M Capcom vs SNK Millenium Fight 2000 & T-1249M 2 Millionaire Fighting 2001

A couple of games arrived from Japan today.

What arrived, I hear you ask?

T-1217M Capcom vs SNK Millenium Fight 2000 by Capcom for the Sega Dreamcast.

T-1249M Capcom vs SNK 2 Millionaire Fighting 2001 by Capcom for the Sega Dreamcast.

The reason I didn't buy the Pro version is because it does not support the link feature. As a side note I used to play Capcom vs SNK 2 EO on Xbox Live back in 2003. It was one of the first Xbox games to feature online play, which was the main reason I bought it back in spring 2003.

    Issues

T-1249M Capcom vs SNK 2 Millionaire Fighting 2001 by Capcom for the Sega Dreamcast came with the spinecard / obi and a product registration card but no Dream Point Bank voucher. I really should start paying more attention to the item listing before purchasing... or buy sealed copies then open them -_-

Other than that it is a non issue really but there was a small crack on the case of one of the discs (standard jewel so easy to replace) and I did notice these games are noticeably heavier due to the relatively thick manuals. I don't think the manual quality has improved, I suspect it just has more pages than most games because there is a ridiculously large number of characters to play with and it lists their special moves.

After contacting the seller of my T-3101M The King of Fighters Dream Match 1999 by SNK for the Sega Dreamcast they initially offered me $5 rebate due to the missing registration card (which was advertised as included). I would have preferred to have got the registration card so my game would be complete but they didn't have one tohand. I guess they sell games often and were using a stock photo or whatever, but I wasn't happy about this and requested a $10 refnd for two reasons. Firstly, the only reason I bought it was because it was advertised as complete and if it was incomplete I wouldn't have wanted to buy it. Secondly incomplete items sell for less. The seller reluctantly agreed to refund $10, I promptly left positive feedback stating the situation and how it was resolved, but sadly they have yet to return the favour.

In other news I do have some more bits and bats to arrive before I do a thorough playtest. The cables for my Sega Dreamcast monitor arrived yesterday, some things I bought weeks ago are finally on their way to me and I've also gone into the red to pick up even more items. I'll keep you posted as and when they arrive :)

I have to say, this one was loose and in awful shape but well worth the $5, haha
I do plan on getting a japanese model eventually. Much nicer look, but I'll probably have to spend more than $5 :p

    The new stuff -

Weekly Famitsu (Demento issue right after Tokyo Game Show 2004)
Famitsu WAVE DVD Magazine + disc 2002 Dec (Clock Tower 3, also has Biohazard 3.5 footage)
Continue issue - really LONG interview with Hifumi (the director/creator of the Clock Tower series)
Action Replay (Clock Tower 3 cheat codes for AR devices)
Phenomena Integral Hard Full 1997 VHS (should have a Clock Tower 2 commercial)
Spring Festa 1998 Memory Card Seals (Ghost Head)
"Chase Game" a Clock Tower series comic anthology (which also has fourteen colour pages inside)

"REMAKE" a Demento/Haunting Ground doujinshi which also came with a "Little Herb" container...

How the FUCK that container with seeds in it got through customs... I have no idea. Plants/dirt and stuff aren't allowed into the country and I had no idea that the artist had included her little present (I knew she had been giving them with purchases at Super Comic City Kansa), but I wasn't expecting to get it in a mail order.

I'll have to scan in the little card in the container and post it to the translation topic because I've no bloody clue as to what plant seeds they are. :s

HKT-7500 Twin Stick by Sega for the Sega Dreamcast

    A behemoth arrived today.

What arrived, I hear you ask?

HKT-7500 Twin Stick by Sega for the Sega Dreamcast.

    Why this particular item?

Well if you've followed my recent posts, now that there are no games left for me to buy on Steam (lol) I have been collecting items related to the use of the NEOP22020 SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color to Sega Dreamcast communication connector cable. I have however also been keeping my eyes open for other rare and interesting Sega Dreamcast items.

This is actually my first ever Twin Stick. I've never really played Virtual-On nor am I a fan, but it has always been one of those things I have wanted to try but never got around to doing so, particuly due to the high cost of getting started. I managed to come across a unit. Not just any old unit as they are common on eBay, but an unboxed unit. You have probably gathered by now that I couldn't give a shit about the box as it only serves to get on my way, I intend to actually use the items and the lower costs is a nice bonus too. Naturally when I saw the deal which was too good to be true I had to pounce on it, even if it meant sacrificig my food budget (no Chicken Vindaloo for a fortnight!) I absolutely had to have it!

It seems the deal had turned out better for me than I had expected. I had only paid the requested £6 shipping so I would have been quite content with the bog standard Parcelforce 48 service, but for whatever reason the seller seem to prefer taking a hit. How much of a hit? Well it took the seller some time to ship it out, but it eventually arrived via next day special delivery with £24 on the stamp. After their listing fees, payment processing fees and severely underestimated shipping costs they didn't get much left over for themselves. To thy seller, I salute thee. You are a living legend and made have my day for sure!

    Issues

Well the first obvious thing is space to use the thing as I had to take my kit downstairs to the lounge to get set up confortably. Also the pause button didn't seem to work at first, or appeared to work randomly. I can get it to work on most occasions now but I really have to press it quite hard. If I press the pause button softly, it doesn't feel as if anything is blocking it and it seems to make contact but it doesn't work. Perhaps the contacts could do with a clean, but if you're aware of my history, screwdrivers and I do not mix well! Perhaps I'll just have to leave it as is and make do.

I was actually expecting the Twin Sticks tomorrow and some other items today. My other items didn't appear yet. Perhaps they were not sent via Royal Mail / Parcelforce or via some other courier or perhaps they will appear tomorrow instead, but I'm going to keep my eyes peeled regardless and hope for the best.

I have 2 of those Twin Stick, it's really nice to play with a friend. Actually I didn't even played VOOT before buying it and it's epic. My main concern is only the space it takes for that item. So right now, I've asked my parents for them to keep it at their house in the meantime I want to play VOOT again.
Also, it's really fun to play shmup with it :)
If you have Starlancer or Alien Front Online, I was wondering if it was fun to play with these? If yes, I would certainly buy those games.
How much did you paid for yours?
