HDR-0063 Samba de Amigo & HKT-9700 Samba de Amigo Controller for Sega Dreamcast

Parcel Force came bearing a gift of epic proportions today. No joke, the box is bloody huge. Much bigger than anything I had been expecting...

What arrived I hear you ask?

HDR-0063 Samba de Amigo by Sonic Team for Sega Dreamcast

HKT-9700 Samba de Amigo Controller by Sega for Sega Dreamcast

    Why these particular items

Whilst I have played rhythm games before, I have never played HDR-0063 Samba de Amigo by Sonic Team for Sega Dreamcast, but as you really need the HKT-9700 Samba de Amigo Controller by Sega for Sega Dreamcast to experience the game properly and as the whole package is usually quite costly, I've never really been able to afford to do so. As with my HKT-7500 Twin Stick by Sega for Sega Dreamcast, I managed to find a deal with a really poor listing which seemed to work in my favour. I blame the poor listing, but I also assume many collectors who haven't had to sell their collection would have bought one or two long ago and are no longer inf need of more thus no longer competing for the items, but there is also the fact we are in the midst of a double dip financial recession wjich would probably be a strong mitigating factor too. I really shouldn't have been spending any more money at this point, but the deal was almost too good to be true and it was certainly worth a punt. I even managed to get the items from the same seller for combined shipping at what I suspect to be below cost, bargain! It looks like this seller will have to go into the legends category for my unbelievable purchase or trade stories!

As for the game itself it plays a lot like you'd expect and it is brilliant. I can't say that I will play it every day, but I do intend to get good enough to beat the game with a respectable score to say the least. At present my best is a B rating on easy -_- Yeah I'm a clumsy tard and I suck, but once I get the hang of it I expect my score will improve significantly. I also must purchase a second HKT-9700 Samba de Amigo Controller by Sega for Sega Dreamcast for multiplayer versus mode as soon as it is economically viable to do so!

    Issues

A non issue for most people but as far as I am aware, my HKT-9700 Samba de Amigo Controller by Sega for Sega Dreamcast is boxed and complete. I really don't have the space or desire to store cardboard boxes in a collectable state. The issue is further compounded by the sheer size of the thing. The box itself has some minor scuff marks here and there and some traces scored into it as if someone pressed into it whilst writing or something and possibly a little bit of bleeching, but this will only bother the most anal of people. Given as I buy my items to play, not to display, the minor damage really doesn't bother me as I'm also quite content to discard the packaging.

The HKT-9700 Samba de Amigo Controller by Sega for Sega Dreamcast also works in the Dreamcast BIOS/OS menu as I found out when I had to reenter the system date and time. I found this element quite difficult to control as I didn't know which movement meant what. After a couople of wiggles here and there and a few button presses later I was able to use the Sega Dreamcast again, albeit with a completely and utterly innacurate date and time.

As for HDR-0063 Samba de Amigo by Sonic Team for Sega Dreamcast, surprisingly it was complete with all of the extras I would want. There was a small crack in the case and a tooth on the disc tray had broken off, but these are replaceable items and the main thing is the paperwork and disc are immaculate.

As I have piss poor coordination I am no doubt going to struggle to get good on this game any time soon, if at all. I've only managed a couple of E and D ratings and a single B rating on easy difficulty thus far, however I suspect the fact I didn't sleep at all last night may have something to do with that too haha. If you must know, I did an impromptu 24 hour solid stint on Battlefield 3 for the fun of it... I ate, drank, and used the toilet in the minute between rounds, though obviously not all at once, it was done on consecutive occasions as and when required :p

Lastly on single player mode or whatever it is as I can't read a single word of Japanese, Amigo is not centred on the screen, he is actually offset to the left. This is a little annoying, but I assume that this is because the right hand side of the screen is reserved in case friends or family decide to chime in as player two. It would have been much nicer if they had a dynamic split screen partition where Amigo is centralised for single player, offset for multiplayer and reverts back to the centralised character when the multiplayer drops out as it feels a little weird for me to stand offset to the TV on my own!

Anyhow this really should be my last game purchases for some time as my really spendy items are going to clean me out for some time but it probably isn't. I couldn't help but chuck a few impulse bids on other interesting items so I guess we shall see how that pans out in due course!

I was really getting in to Heavy Unit until I died on stage 4 and lost all my weapons. It was a real challenge from that point. Rambo III is actually pretty good fun. Sort of like a cheaper version of Mercs. I quite like it.

    Recent eBay purchases!

    Nintendo NES (PAL)
    1x Official Controller
    1x Official Zapper
    Duck Hunt (PAL)
    £30

    Super Mario Bros (PAL)
    Super Mario Bros 2 (PAL)
    Super Mario Bros 3 (PAL)

    Snakes Revenge (PAL)
    £20

    Punch-Out!! (PAL)(Re-Release, No Mike Tyson!)
    £10

    Extra Official Controller
    £3

This picture is just after i cleaned everything this week, it's all in fantastic condition. I bought & Installed a new 72-Pin connector for the NES to keep it in good working order, also had to buy a new AC Power Brick and Composite Cable. I ordered some official Nintendo branded cartridge sleeves last night, 7 for £11.

Can't seem to get Metal Gear to work! All the other carts load first time, but Metal Gear constantly resets (i can see the title screen, but the red light is flashing) I quickly cleaned the contacts of the cartridge (without taking it apart) with some Aerospace Grade contact cleaner but still the same..... Any ideas?

EDIT: Just found out that it's Region locked! D'oh! Time to get the modding tools out!

EDIT#2: Modded the 10NES by snipping leg 4, Region Free now! Metal Gear works fine.

    HDR-0165 Sonic Adventure 2 & T-41801M Bikkuriman 2000 for Sega Dreamcast

The postman arrived bearing several gifts yesterday, but I have been too busy to discuss them. I am still busy, but if I don't do it now I may never get around to it so here goes.

What arrived I hear you ask?

HDR-0165 Sonic Adventure 2 by Sonic Team for Sega Dreamcast

T-41801M Bikkuriman 2000 by Sega Toys for Sega Dreamcast

    Why these particular items?

I actually got a bunch of games as part of a job lot. I owned some already had so I mixed and matched to get myself a set in the best condition I can and I'll sell the lesser spares cheaply.

I had an interest in obtaining HDR-0165 Sonic Adventure 2 by Sonic Team for Sega Dreamcast to partner with my HDR-0001 Sonic Adventure by Sonic Team for Sega Dreamcast however I was in no rush to do so. I am grateful I didn't get the 10th Anniversary limited edition with the big cardboard box, music CD and coin as I really do not want to find space to store and maintain the packaging in good condition. The standard variety works fine for me!

The game I really wanted form the lot was T-41801M Bikkuriman 2000 by Sega Toys for Sega Dreamcast so I could use it with my NEOP22020 SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color to Sega Dreamcast communication connector cable and I look forwards to testing that feature in due course. I have tried the game a little in the meantime and it is a little bizzarre. It seems to be a bit like a single player party game in that there are tiles you can step on on a board game to do different mini games. The art direction is a little whacky, there is a lot of Japanese text too which makes gameplay difficult, but as the minigame tutorials are accompanied with a diagram of sorts or one can do trial an error, it is not impossible for an English to play or enjoy it! One strange thing I did notice is that the game is for all intents and purposes Sega branded but there is no HDR-XXXX reference...

    Issues

None for the most part. I got a good deal for a bunch of games. I suppose there is a problem in that there are several games in the lot which I have no interest in as they are thick with Japanese text so are basically unplayabale by me, but I can either collect them regardless, or sell them on so it isn't the end of the world. What is the end of the world though is I am once again spending money I shouldn't be -_- I only bidded on this at the last moment because I got sniped on something else I was moderately interested in, so I checked my wallet and figured I'd chuck a bid on these too and hopefully win my main item, but in the end I lost out on the item I really wanted, the item sorta wanted and got stuck with this lot. Oh well.

    EDIT: Updated 9th November 2011

    HKT-7300 Arcade Stick + Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT OBSF-30 JLF-H GT-Y JLF-CD for Sega Dreamcast

The postman arrived bearing several gifts this week, but I have been too busy to discuss them. I am still busy, but I'll post something for now.

What arrived I hear you ask?

1x HKT-7300 Arcade Stick by Sega for Sega Dreamcast
1x Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT arcade stick with green ball top
6x Sanwa OBSF-30 Green push buttons
    1x Sanwa JLF-H 5 pin wiring harness
    1x Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor
    1x Sanwa JLF-CD-CLEAR
    20x Sanwa 2.8mm crimps
    4x Bolts

Mash it all together and what do you get?

    HKT-7300 Arcade Stick + Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT OBSF-30 JLF-H GT-Y JLF-CD-CLEAR for Sega Dreamcast

    Why these particular items?

As you may recall, shortly after purchasing my pair of HKT-7300 Arcade Stick by Sega for Sega Dreamcast, one of them was promptly broken. As sourcing original Sega parts will prove difficult, I had a search around and after stumbling upon a video guide I decided to take the plunge and not just restore my broken HKT-7300 Arcade Stick by Sega for Sega Dreamcast, but to have it upgraded to be better than new.

I'm not too sure how much of a difference the Sanwa OBSF-30 buttons have made but they do seem slightly more responsive. The Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT is pretty awesome though and worth every penny! One of my main problems using the Arcade Stick as standard is the square gate. It may be the best method for professionals, but it really does take some getting used to and sadly I don't use my HKT-7300 Arcade Stick by Sega for Sega Dreamcast often enough to become really hardcore with it. The Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Restrictorcures a lot of my amateur issues though as it is really nice to feel the directionals to aim for when trying to pull off special moves and I have found it much easier to perform Ryu's Haduken, Hurricane Kick and their super versions, amongst others on T-1217M Capcom vs SNK Millenium Fight 2000 by Capcom for Sega Dreamcast and I suspect it will perform great on other suitable games too.

    Issues

Unfortunately I lack the tools to do the job and even if I did have the tools, I'm quite clumsy so I'll probably make a mess of it anyway so I decided to ship it off and have it modified in safer hands. Sadly this meant paying for shipping in two directions as well as labour costs in addition to parts so the procedure has been a costly modification, but on the flipside it has also been worthwhile too.

I opted for the stock look and kept the original green colours used by the original HKT-7300 Arcade Stick by Sega for Sega Dreamcast, but I think if my family and friends abuse my second stick I'll end up doing the same modification, but I'll follow the suggestion of a friend and opt for pink Sanwa OBSF-30 push buttons and Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT arcade stick ball top for the candy arcade cabinet look.

there's still no system more epic then the MegaDrive/Genesis, yakumo what's that game right in the middle with the duke nukem kinda look going on?

anyway not been too busy lately picking things up but got these for a total of £21 i think money well spent,

Cold War - Original Xbox - got this for £1 at the local £ store just a random pickup i was in to get some pepsi and cleaning wipes, Game for a pound? couldnt resist - only issue was its NTSC USA release but not really a problem at all. surprisingly good and interesting game even if the plot is from an 80s anti commie movie. (its actually set in the 80s so it fits).

Mace Griffin: Bounty Hunter - Original Xbox - picked this up as i've never played it an always liked FPS games. £3 from cash converters

Resistance: Retribution - PSP - picked this up as i've been looking for psp games looked interesting and was £4

Gauntlet: Dark Legacy - PS2 - seen footage of someone playing the arcade game on youtube so decided to pick it up looked fun was also £4 and different from the games i normally play.

Black - PS2 - always wanted to play this but didnt have a ps2 back in the day so picked it up today £3

Silent Scope - Enjoyed this in the Arcade after school when it came out and used to play at mates house on his PS2, picked up for Nostalgia and well its just generally cool arcade sniper game. £3

Last but not Least - Killzone - PS2 - same reason i got this as black, never had a ps2 back in the day so playing this for the 1st time. £3

All are complete although killzone is not in original PS2 case, but this does not bother me at all. if it does i'll swap it for a sports game case./

That's Senjou no Ookami II which is basically Commando II or better known as Mercs in the west. I already own an arcade perfect port on the Saturn but the Mega Drive version features an arranged "RPG" style mode with new weapons, stages and music. A really good game but with this extra mode it makes it worth owning even if you own the Saturn version.

i was VERY close to getting the 8x. simply because of the size. the 920 is a BEAST. but i couldn't justify the price. it would have been $100 more for half the storage space and fewer features.

wp8 is slick. i loved the windows 7 phones. and i feel like wp8 improves upon everything i used. it's just clean and fast. i'm still working on getting the most out of it. there's still some experimenting i need to do to get it perfectly personalized for me.

the phone itself is cool. i had the Focus S previously. there have been a couple issues though (prepare for incoming first world problems). i'm not a huge fan of the screen, i kinda wish it was OMLED. the blacks look washed out. the keyboard can be wonky at times, like it misses letters. i think it might just take some getting used to. while playing music through speakers, in my car or at work, whenever i receive a text, i get crackling which is very annoying. on the lumia Nokia uses there maps instead of Bing maps. on the Focus S, i could hit the search button, type in a restaurant, and then it would give me web results as well as a map with the nearest locations. the Nokia doesn't do that. :(

so far no issues with WP8, just the Nokia 920.

    yeah! i looooooove the platform.
