    HKT-0120 Dev.Box, HKT-0400 GD Writer & HKT-0910 System-Disc 2 for Sega Dreamcast

The postman arrived bearing several gifts this past week, but I have been too busy to discuss them. I am still busy, but I'll post something for now.

What arrived I hear you ask?

HKT-0120 Set 5.24 Dev.Box by Cross Products for Sega Dreamcast

HKT-0400 GD Writer by Yamaha for Sega Katana

HKT-0910 Dreamcast System-Disc 2 by Sega for Sega Dreamcast

    Why these particular items?

I have actually owned these items in the past, but I eventually end up selling them. I never intend to sell them, but problems happen and these tend to have a good demand and hold their value, so unfortunately they are the first items to go. On the plus side I've had a lot of really cool things pass through my hands, I just never really own everything at the same time. They are perhaps the most ufeful items a Sega Dreamcast or beta collector could want though!

The HKT-0120 Set 5.24 Dev.Box by Cross Products for Sega Dreamcast is used to make and debug the games, the HKT-0400 GD Writer by Yamaha for Sega Katana is used to burn said games to HKT-06 GD-R Gigabyte Disc Recordable - think CD-R but for GD-ROM format and you are on the right track!) and the HKT-0910 Dreamcast System-Disc 2 by Sega for Sega Dreamcast allows you to boot and play the burned HKT-06 GD-R on a bog standard retail Sega Dreamcast.

This will be my third HKT-0120 Set 5.24 Dev.Box by Cross Products for Sega Dreamcast. The first came with Actua Soccer 4, GP500 and Warhead unreleased games on the GD-M HDD but was sold to pay bills, the second was formatted factory fresh so no data, but an undelete recovered the unreleased Hellgate game was sold to pay for a dyslexia assessment and this unit comes with a beta wwith a potentially unreleased variant too which I intend to release ASAP, but hopefully I will not sell this one!

I will also be on my second HKT-0400 GD Writer by Yamaha for Sega Katana. As the older and more frequent visitors may recall, I dismantled my first GD Writer some time around 2003 I think and found read/write switches. I didn't mark the original positions before I tampered with them and I never got it back to default. After some time passed I decided to take another look at it, stripped it down, and thenr eturned to find my mother had binned it!

I am also on my second HKT-0910 Dreamcast System-Disc 2 by Sega for Sega Dreamcast and funnily enough it is a revision B too. I sold my first along with my BBA to fund a second nVidia GeForce 560 Ti for SLI and a 750W PSU to power both GPU's, which I have subsequently since sold too lol.

    Issues

The HKT-0120 Set 5.24 Dev.Box by Cross Products for Sega Dreamcast was bought sight unseen. Thne dev.box is a little discolored and dirty but nothing I cannot live with. At first I struggled to get the HKT-0120 Set 5.24 Dev.Box by Cross Products for Sega Dreamcast set up, more so than with my previous kits. The SCSI ID's were set wrong and I had to reseat the internal cable for it to be detected correctly. FYI for future reference the Sega Katana SDK prefers SCSI A set to 3 (Debug Adapter) and SCSI B set to 4 (GD-M). If you change the ID's you may have conflicts with other devices, or you may see the internal hard drive and not the Debug Adapter or GD emulator (GD-M).

I also had the problem of it not reading discs at the first try. My first thought was it was set to emulation mode and no disc was being read was because there was no GD Workshop project loaded, but nope it wasn't that as after I had set it to GD-ROM mode it still woudln't read discs. ThenI thought maybe I had the wrong region for my disc, but aftertrying 0, 4 and 9 on the hex rotary no joy there either. I was contemplating a pot tweak or laser replacement, when I decided to give the lens a quick wipe. Problem solved lol.

The HKT-0400 GD Writer by Yamaha for Sega Katana was bought sight unseen too. It has a few paint chips on the fascia which is a little annoying but not the end of the world provided everything works. Unfortunately I can't really test if it works just yet. The main reason being is I used to have a nice stash of SCSI cables but I have handed them out over the years so I don't have enough to go around. I suspect I will also need to update the firmware from the Katana R11 SDK to match my HKT-0120 Set 5.24 Dev.Box by Cross Products for Sega Dreamcast too but I believe the executable for this is in the DBflash directory so I should be able to do it and then the hour long test burn as and when I obtain more SCSi cables.

Sadly even the HKT-0910 Dreamcast System-Disc 2 by Sega for Sega Dreamcast isn't immune to issues. It appears that some muppet, in their wisdom, decided to apply a removing agent to get tid of the typically water soluble CD pen ink to hide their identity. This means not only did they use an overkill procudure to mask their identity, they completely removed the label layer of the disc -_- This particular unit also cost me more than I wanted to pay. I bidded the going rate and then got outbid the next day. It wasn't until the last 15 minutes when I decided I'll fight for it. As I have been spending quite heavily recently it has put me in a difficult position, but provided I can control my spending I should be able to settle my debts and rebuild a nest egg before I get myself into the position where I am forced to sell everything... again!

Today the postman kindly graced me with 3 gifts, 1st one was a bill, meh!

2nd Gift, was a nice RGB Scart Cable for the original XBOX - which is awesome because now not only do i get RGB but also the Xbox is no longer sittin on the floor beside my desk and i'm no longer tripping over the thing, its now in its new home..
ontop of the my DVD player beside and hooked up to my 32"CRT tv along with the unholy union of the PS2 and SEGA Saturn

3rd Gift, A Brand New and Sealed XBOX 360 game "VanQuish" 3rd person shooter published by SEGA has cool 3d looking hologram artwork on the sleve which i like - seen a few videos of this game on youtube and been wanting it for a while so its good to have it

The second they released photos I thought it looked like an apple cd or a commodore 5 and a quarter floppy drive.

Hey I loved the SuperDisk drives. Found them to be faster and more reliable than the Zip drives of the era. Plus they read/wrote standard 1.44MB disks too.

Dead Island Game of the Year Edition @ £6.79 in the Steam Autumn Sale

My co-op partner and I love zombie slaying and we have been looking forwards to playing this game for some time, but the full retail price of the game + DLC on top has been somewhat unattractive. It only took us one year and two months of waiting but GOTY + 66% off FTW!

After months i think i'll finally have some free time to play some games this weekend.

I do have some money on my PSN wallet, so i was thinking on getting Jet Set Radio and Nights (both on sale this week), plus Sine Mora as well. Are those 3 really worth it?

I bought Forza Horizon for $15 and Daytona USA for 400ms points.

So far, that's the extent of my Black Friday purchases.

I played a little bit. Not enough to comment right now.
Oh I've seen games similar to what you're saying. 3DS had PES 2011 and SSFIV with 3d cover versions.

    The first arrival is in.

Sonic All Star Racing Transformed arrived today. It's the Asian version so it has a real case, not one of those shitty cases with holes in and it came with a manual. Thank you Sega! As for the game, well it's F**king epic! A real fan service to Sega fans as well as being an amazingly good kart racer. Move your fat dull sluggish arse over Mario, the big boys are here to show you how it's done.!

Well to be fair Sony doesn't really have anyone. Even Crash Bandicoot wasn't made by Sony but by a 3rd party company (Naughty Dog). In fact Who was actually developed by an inhouse Sony team? I can only think of that Motortoon GP game :p

I don't really know if this X-Men is any good, but I saw that it was obly released here in Brazil and it was very cheap (around 15 dollars), so I bought it. I hope it's good.
