Those were bought at Fnac Porto, Portugal. Not only they were discounted, no VAT / IVA taxes.

I don't buy "brazilian" editions of games, specially from Sony and their rubish cases, cheap quality cover printing and no internal art. These are already known among collectors as "HUE HUE BR" versions.

By the way, companies like EA, Ubisoft and Square Enix are also following this cheapness standard.

I bought a Neo Geo from Yahoo Auctions this week but it was listed as junk. It still cost a pretty penny at 7000 yen but even unboxed tatty systems cost 15000 yen! So I thought buying a junk system would be worth it. Anyway, it had no PSU so I bought a 3rd party one that says it outputs 5volts at 3.0 amps DC which is what the Neo Geo needs. Plugged in some games to test it but nothing. maybe the PSU I bought isn't good enough? Or maybe the Neo really is dead. In which case I'll have to open it up to see what's up with it.

All the games came from MangaSoko, a massive used games place that I've featured in videos before. Just check out these prices!! True, these aren't top end games but who would have thought someone could buy a Neo Geo AES game complete for less than a sandwich.!

Have you checked the polarity? Could be as simple as that?

I did and you are right. The polarity is backwards. Can I solve this issue by just cutting the wire before the plug that goes in to the Neo Geo and reversing the wires? It makes sense that n my mind but I'm no master electrician.

I just orderd on of those. The issue I have with the is that out of the 30 or so on Amazon Japan none of them do 5volts at 3amps. It's always 4.5v or 6v. I'll give it a try though. Lower voltage shouldn't be an issue and 1 volt higher shouldn't damage the Neo or at least I hope not.

I'd go for the 4.5v option. The general rule is you're safe when it comes to voltage within +/- 10%, so 4.5V is right on that 10% margin, while the 6v option is +20%.

Also, make sure it's regulated! If it's not, the voltage of the power supply will vary with the load, which can end very badly.

You will also need to check that you did not damage it by plugging in an adaptor with the wrong polarity. Hopefully the aes has a fuse on the input.
and yes, you can cut the tip off and switch the wires.

Ah, that's great to know. I think the AES is still OK because if I use headphones I can hear a pulse sound coming from the console. Anyway, thanks for the info. I'll make a zombie PSU tonight :)

Well, I cut the wires and swapped them around. Now the Neo is definitely powering up as I can hear that "BuDum" sound that you get when switching on electrical equipment with speakers or headphones attached. Still no Neo Geo boot logo sound or game sound though. There is a slight humming sound that gets louder the longer the console is on though so I switched it off. Loud humming is not a good sound to have coming from electronic devices.

I must point out that there is no video cable or joystick attatched to this unit yet. The stick will arrive tomorrow and the cable is coming from Europe. It's a Euro RGB that's been converted to Japanese standard. All I have to tell me if the machine is running is the audio from the headphone jack.

Well, a multi adapter will arrive tomorrow or Wednesday so I'll give that a try. The only problem with that is it does many voltages but only 4.5 or 6 near the Neo Geo scale and that wants 5.

No idea. But for some crazy reason the Neo Geo started to work after I fed it 3 / 4.5 and 6 volts of current. How on earth this "fixed" the issue I had I don't know but it now works were as before it didn't. No loose wall sockets or anything like that either.

I mean the socket on the console might be loose. Its nice that you got it working though. Hopefully it stays working. :)
